1Die Hand des HERRN kam über mich, und der HERR führte mich im Geist hinaus und ließ mich nieder mitten auf der Ebene, und diese war voller Totengebeine.2Und er führte mich ringsherum an ihnen vorüber; und siehe, es waren sehr viele auf der Ebene; und siehe, sie waren sehr dürr.3Da sprach er zu mir: Menschensohn, können diese Gebeine wieder lebendig werden? Ich antwortete: O Herr, HERR, du weißt es!4Da sprach er zu mir: Weissage über diese Gebeine und sprich zu ihnen: Ihr verdorrten Gebeine, hört das Wort des HERRN!5So spricht GOTT, der Herr, zu diesen Gebeinen: Seht, ich will Odem in euch kommen lassen, dass ihr lebendig werdet!6Ich will euch Sehnen geben und Fleisch über euch wachsen lassen und euch mit Haut überziehen und Odem in euch geben, dass ihr lebendig werdet; und ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin!7Da weissagte ich, wie mir befohlen war, und als ich weissagte, entstand ein Geräusch, und siehe, eine Erschütterung, und die Gebeine rückten zusammen, ein Knochen zum anderen.8Und ich schaute, und siehe, sie bekamen Sehnen, und es wuchs Fleisch an ihnen; und es zog sich Haut darüber; aber es war noch kein Odem in ihnen.9Da sprach er zu mir: Richte eine Weissagung an den Odem; weissage, Menschensohn, und sprich zum Odem: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Odem, komme von den vier Windrichtungen und hauche diese Getöteten an, dass sie lebendig werden!10So weissagte ich, wie er mir befohlen hatte. Da kam der Odem in sie, und sie wurden lebendig und stellten sich auf ihre Füße — ein sehr, sehr großes Heer.11Und er sprach zu mir: Menschensohn, diese Gebeine sind das ganze Haus Israel. Siehe, sie sprechen: »Unsere Gebeine sind verdorrt, und unsere Hoffnung ist verloren; es ist aus mit uns!«12Darum weissage und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Siehe, ich will eure Gräber öffnen und euch, mein Volk, aus euren Gräbern heraufbringen, und ich will euch wieder in das Land Israel bringen;13und ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, wenn ich eure Gräber öffne und euch, mein Volk, aus euren Gräbern heraufbringen werde.14Und ich werde meinen Geist in euch legen, und ihr sollt leben; und ich werde euch wieder in euer Land bringen; und ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin. Ich habe es gesagt und werde es auch tun!, spricht der HERR.

15Und das Wort des HERRN erging an mich folgendermaßen:16Du, Menschensohn, nimm dir einen Holzstab und schreibe darauf: »Für Juda und die Kinder Israels, seine Mitverbundenen«. Dann nimm einen anderen Holzstab und schreibe darauf: »Für Joseph, den Holzstab Ephraims, und das ganze Haus Israel, seine Mitverbundenen«.17Danach füge die beiden zusammen, einen zum anderen, damit ein Holzstab daraus werde; ja, zu einem einzigen sollen sie werden in deiner Hand.18Wenn dann die Kinder deines Volkes zu dir sagen: »Willst du uns nicht erklären, was du damit meinst?«,19so gib ihnen zur Antwort: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Siehe, ich will den Holzstab Josephs nehmen, der in der Hand Ephraims und der Stämme Israels, seiner Mitverbundenen, ist, und will ihn zu dem Holzstab Judas hinzufügen und sie zu einem einzigen Holzstab machen, und sie sollen eins werden in meiner Hand!20Und die Holzstäbe, auf die du geschrieben hast, sollst du vor ihren Augen in deiner Hand halten.21Und sage zu ihnen: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Siehe, ich werde die Kinder Israels aus den Heidenvölkern zurückholen, unter die sie gekommen sind, und sie von ringsumher sammeln und sie in ihr Land führen.22Und ich werde sie im Land, auf den Bergen Israels, zu einem einzigen Volk machen; sie sollen alle nur einen einzigen König haben, sie sollen auch künftig nicht mehr zwei Völker bilden, noch in zwei Reiche zerteilt werden.23Und sie sollen sich auch künftig nicht mehr verunreinigen mit ihren Götzen und mit ihren Scheusalen und durch allerlei Übertretungen. Und ich will ihnen aus allen ihren Wohnorten, in denen sie gesündigt haben, heraushelfen und will sie reinigen; und sie werden mein Volk sein, und ich werde ihr Gott sein.24Und mein Knecht David soll ihr König sein, und sie sollen alle einen einzigen Hirten haben. Und sie werden in meinen Rechtsbestimmungen wandeln und meine Satzungen bewahren und sie tun.25Sie werden wieder in dem Land wohnen, das ich meinem Knecht Jakob gegeben habe, in dem auch eure Väter gewohnt haben. Ja, darin sollen sie in Ewigkeit wohnen, sie und ihre Kinder und Kindeskinder; und mein Knecht David soll ihr Fürst sein auf ewig.26Ich will auch einen Bund des Friedens mit ihnen schließen; ein ewiger Bund soll mit ihnen bestehen, und ich will sie sesshaft machen und mehren; ich will mein Heiligtum auf ewig in ihre Mitte stellen.27Meine Wohnung wird bei ihnen sein, und ich will ihr Gott sein, und sie sollen mein Volk sein.28Und die Heidenvölker werden erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, der Israel heiligt, wenn mein Heiligtum in Ewigkeit in ihrer Mitte sein wird.

The Valley of Dry Bones
1The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley;* it was full of bones.2And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry.3And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.”4Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.5Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath* to enter you, and you shall live.6And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”7So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling,* and the bones came together, bone to its bone.8And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But there was no breath in them.9Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”10So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.11Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’12Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel.13And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people.14And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”
I Will Be Their God; They Shall Be My People
15The word of the Lord came to me:16“Son of man, take a stick* and write on it, ‘For Judah, and the people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph (the stick of Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’17And join them one to another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand.18And when your people say to you, ‘Will you not tell us what you mean by these?’19say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am about to take the stick of Joseph (that is in the hand of Ephraim) and the tribes of Israel associated with him. And I will join with it the stick of Judah,* and make them one stick, that they may be one in my hand.20When the sticks on which you write are in your hand before their eyes,21then say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and bring them to their own land.22And I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. And one king shall be king over them all, and they shall be no longer two nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms.23They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions. But I will save them from all the backslidings* in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.24“My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes.25They shall dwell in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children’s children shall dwell there forever, and David my servant shall be their prince forever.26I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land* and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore.27My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.28Then the nations will know that I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when my sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.”
