1Du aber, Menschensohn, weissage über die Berge Israels und sprich: Ihr Berge Israels, hört das Wort des HERRN!2So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Weil der Feind über euch gesprochen hat: »Ha! Ha! Die ewigen Höhen sind unser Besitz geworden!«,3so weissage nun und sprich: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Darum, ja, darum, weil man euch verwüstet und von allen Seiten nach euch geschnappt hat, sodass ihr den übrigen Völkern zum Besitz geworden seid, und weil ihr ins Gerede der Zungen gekommen und zum Geschwätz der Leute geworden seid —4darum, o ihr Berge Israels, hört das Wort GOTTES, des Herrn! So spricht GOTT, der Herr, zu den Bergen und Hügeln, zu den Gründen und Tälern, zu den öden Trümmern und verlassenen Städten, die den übrigen Heidenvölkern ringsum zum Raub und zum Gespött geworden sind;5ja, darum spricht GOTT, der Herr, so: Fürwahr, in meinem feurigen Eifer rede ich gegen die übrigen Heidenvölker und gegen ganz Edom, die mein Land in Besitz genommen haben und die sich von ganzem Herzen und mit übermütiger Verachtung gefreut haben, sie auszustoßen und zu berauben.6Darum weissage über das Land Israel und sprich zu den Bergen und Hügeln, zu den Gründen und Tälern: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Seht, in meinem Eifer und in meinem grimmigen Zorn rede ich, weil ihr Schmach vonseiten der Heidenvölker erlitten habt.7Darum, so spricht GOTT, der Herr: Ich hebe meine Hand auf [zum Schwur ], dass die Völker, die um euch her liegen, ihre eigene Schmach tragen sollen!8Ihr aber, ihr Berge Israels, lasst eure Zweige sprossen und tragt eure Frucht für mein Volk Israel; denn sie sollen bald heimkehren!9Denn siehe, ich komme zu euch und wende mich euch wieder zu, und ihr sollt angebaut und besät werden!10Ich will viele Menschen auf euch wohnen lassen, das ganze Haus Israel, sie alle; die Städte sollen bewohnt und die Trümmer aufgebaut werden.11Ich will Menschen und Vieh auf euch zahlreich machen, und sie werden sich mehren und fruchtbar sein; ich will euch bevölkern wie in alten Zeiten und euch mehr Gutes erweisen als je zuvor; und ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin!12Und ich will Menschen auf euch wandeln lassen, nämlich mein Volk Israel; die sollen dich besitzen, und du sollst ihr Erbteil sein und sie künftig nicht mehr der Kinder berauben!13So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Weil sie zu euch sagen: »Du warst eine Menschenfresserin und hast dein Volk der Kinder beraubt!«,14so sollst du künftig keine Menschen mehr fressen und dein Volk nicht mehr zu Fall bringen, spricht GOTT, der Herr.15Ich will dich künftig nicht mehr die Schmähungen der Heiden hören lassen, und den Hohn der Völker sollst du nicht mehr tragen und dein Volk nicht mehr zu Fall bringen, spricht GOTT, der Herr.16Und das Wort des HERRN erging an mich folgendermaßen:17Menschensohn, als das Haus Israel in seinem Land wohnte und sie es mit ihrem Weg und mit ihren Taten verunreinigten, sodass ihr Weg vor mir war wie die Unreinheit einer Frau in ihrer Monatsblutung,18da goss ich meinen Zorn über sie aus wegen des Blutes, das sie im Land vergossen hatten, und weil sie es durch ihre Götzen verunreinigt hatten.19Ich zerstreute sie unter die Heidenvölker, und sie wurden in die Länder versprengt; ich richtete sie entsprechend ihrem Weg und entsprechend ihren Taten.20Als sie nun unter die Heidenvölker kamen, wohin sie gezogen waren, da entweihten sie meinen heiligen Namen, indem man von ihnen sagte: »Das ist das Volk des HERRN; die mussten aus seinem Land ausziehen!«21Da tat es mir leid um meinen heiligen Namen, den das Haus Israel entweiht hatte unter den Heidenvölkern, zu denen es gekommen ist.22Darum sprich zu dem Haus Israel: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Nicht um euretwillen tue ich dies, Haus Israel, sondern wegen meines heiligen Namens, den ihr entweiht habt unter den Heidenvölkern, zu denen ihr gekommen seid.23Darum will ich meinen großen Namen wieder heilig machen, der vor den Heidenvölkern entheiligt worden ist, den ihr unter ihnen entheiligt habt! Und die Heidenvölker sollen erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, spricht GOTT, der Herr, wenn ich mich vor ihren Augen an euch heilig erweisen werde.24Denn ich will euch aus den Heidenvölkern herausholen und aus allen Ländern sammeln und euch wieder in euer Land bringen.25Und ich will reines Wasser über euch sprengen, und ihr werdet rein sein; von aller eurer Unreinheit und von allen euren Götzen will ich euch reinigen.26Und ich will euch ein neues Herz geben und einen neuen Geist in euer Inneres legen; ich will das steinerne Herz aus eurem Fleisch wegnehmen und euch ein fleischernes Herz geben;27ja, ich will meinen Geist in euer Inneres legen und werde bewirken, dass ihr in meinen Satzungen wandelt und meine Rechtsbestimmungen befolgt und tut.28Und ihr sollt in dem Land wohnen, das ich euren Vätern gegeben habe, und ihr sollt mein Volk sein, und ich will euer Gott sein.29Und ich will euch befreien von allen euren Unreinheiten, und ich will dem Korn rufen und es vermehren und keine Hungersnot mehr über euch kommen lassen.30Ich will auch die Früchte der Bäume und den Ertrag des Feldes vermehren, damit ihr künftig nicht mehr die Schmach des Hungers unter den Heidenvölkern tragen müsst.31Dann werdet ihr an eure bösen Wege gedenken und an eure Taten, die nicht gut waren, und ihr werdet vor euch selbst Abscheu empfinden wegen eurer Sünden und wegen eurer Gräuel.32Nicht euretwegen werde ich dies tun, spricht GOTT, der Herr, das sollt ihr wissen! Schämt euch und errötet über eure Wege, ihr vom Haus Israel!33So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Zu jener Zeit, wenn ich euch reinigen werde von allen euren Missetaten, da will ich [euch] wieder in den Städten wohnen lassen, und die Trümmer sollen wieder aufgebaut werden.34Und das verwüstete Land soll wieder bearbeitet werden, nachdem es zuvor verwüstet dalag vor den Augen aller, die vorübergingen.35Dann wird man sagen: »Dieses verwüstete Land ist wie der Garten Eden geworden, und die Städte, die [einst] verödet, verwüstet und zerstört waren, sind [nun] befestigt und bewohnt!«36Und die Heidenvölker, die rings um euch her übrig geblieben sind, sollen erkennen, dass ich, der HERR, es bin, der das Abgebrochene aufbaut und das Verwüstete bepflanzt. Ich, der HERR, habe es gesagt und werde es auch tun!37So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Auch deswegen will ich mich vom Haus Israel noch erbitten lassen, dass ich es für sie tue: Ich will sie an Menschen so zahlreich werden lassen wie eine Schafherde.38Wie die Schafherden des Heiligtums, wie die Schafherden in Jerusalem an ihren Festen, so sollen auch die verödeten Städte voll Menschenherden werden; und sie werden erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin!

Prophecy to the Mountains of Israel
1“And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord.2Thus says the Lord God: Because the enemy said of you, ‘Aha!’ and, ‘The ancient heights have become our possession,’3therefore prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord God: Precisely because they made you desolate and crushed you from all sides, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you became the talk and evil gossip of the people,4therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, the ravines and the valleys, the desolate wastes and the deserted cities, which have become a prey and derision to the rest of the nations all around,5therefore thus says the Lord God: Surely I have spoken in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave my land to themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, that they might make its pasturelands a prey.6Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I have spoken in my jealous wrath, because you have suffered the reproach of the nations.7Therefore thus says the Lord God: I swear that the nations that are all around you shall themselves suffer reproach.8“But you, O mountains of Israel, shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to my people Israel, for they will soon come home.9For behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown.10And I will multiply people on you, the whole house of Israel, all of it. The cities shall be inhabited and the waste places rebuilt.11And I will multiply on you man and beast, and they shall multiply and be fruitful. And I will cause you to be inhabited as in your former times, and will do more good to you than ever before. Then you will know that I am the Lord.12I will let people walk on you, even my people Israel. And they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and you shall no longer bereave them of children.13Thus says the Lord God: Because they say to you, ‘You devour people, and you bereave your nation of children,’14therefore you shall no longer devour people and no longer bereave your nation of children, declares the Lord God.15And I will not let you hear anymore the reproach of the nations, and you shall no longer bear the disgrace of the peoples and no longer cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord God.”
The Lord’s Concern for His Holy Name
16The word of the Lord came to me:17“Son of man, when the house of Israel lived in their own land, they defiled it by their ways and their deeds. Their ways before me were like the uncleanness of a woman in her menstrual impurity.18So I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood that they had shed in the land, for the idols with which they had defiled it.19I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries. In accordance with their ways and their deeds I judged them.20But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, they profaned my holy name, in that people said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go out of his land.’21But I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they came.
I Will Put My Spirit Within You
22“Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came.23And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.24I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land.25I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.26And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.27And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.*28You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.29And I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. And I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you.30I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations.31Then you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominations.32It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord God; let that be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.33“Thus says the Lord God: On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt.34And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by.35And they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’36Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the Lord; I have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.37“Thus says the Lord God: This also I will let the house of Israel ask me to do for them: to increase their people like a flock.38Like the flock for sacrifices,* like the flock at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
