Mais benefícios da sabedoria

1 Meu filho, não te esqueças do que te ensinei e guarda no teu coração os meus mandamentos; 2 pois eles te darão uma vida longa e de paz. 3 Mantém na tua vida a bondade e a fidelidade; trá-las contigo, como um colar, e grava-as no teu coração. 4 Assim acharás o favor de Deus e a consideração dos homens. 5 Confia no SENHOR de todo o teu coração e nunca em ti mesmo. 6 Em tudo o que fizeres, põe Deus em primeiro lugar, e ele te dirigirá nos teus caminhos. 7 Não te consideres sábio aos teus próprios olhos; teme o SENHOR e volta as costas ao mal. 8 Quando assim fizeres, gozarás saúde e vitalidade. 9 Honra o SENHOR com os teus ganhos, com a primeira parte dos teus rendimentos; 10 e ele encherá, a transbordar, os teus celeiros; correrão abundantes os teus vinhos, dos mais finos. 11 Meu filho, não desprezes a correção do SENHOR e não desanimes quando ele te mostrar que estás errado. 12 Porque o SENHOR repreende quem ama, tal como um pai corrige um filho a quem quer muito bem. 13 A pessoa que acha a sabedoria, que adquire a capacidade de avaliar o certo e o errado, essa é feliz. 14 Porque isso é melhor do que grandes riquezas; a sabedoria vale mais do que ouro. 15 É mais preciosa do que pérolas; nada se lhe pode comparar. 16 A sabedoria, por um lado, dá-te uma longa vida; por outro, dá-te riquezas e honra.* 17 Os seus caminhos dão felicidade e paz. 18 É uma árvore de vida, para os que a alcançam; felizes são os que se apegam a ela. 19 Foi com essa sabedoria que o SENHOR firmou a Terra; com a sua inteligência estabeleceu os céus; 20 pelo seu conhecimento, as profundas fontes da Terra abrem-se e as nuvens gotejam. 21 Meu filho, nunca deixes de ter estes dois objetivos: fazer o que é reto e ter bom senso. 22 Porque serão para ti fonte de vida, como joias que adornam o teu pescoço. 23 Então andarás com segurança e sem risco de tropeçares. 24 Poderás deitar-te e adormecer sossegadamente. 25 Não terás que recear catástrofes repentinas, nem a desgraça causada pelos malfeitores. 26 Porque o SENHOR será a tua segurança; guardará os teus pés de ficarem presos. 27 Não te atrases a fazer o bem que deves a alguém, se nada te impedir disso. 28 Não digas: “Olha, fica para outra vez!”, se puderes pagar-lhe logo na ocasião. 29 Não trames o mal contra o teu próximo, pois confia em ti. 30 Não entres em disputas inúteis, particularmente com pessoas que nunca te fizeram mal. 31 Não tenhas inveja de gente violenta nem a imites. 32 Porque o SENHOR tem horror a pessoas assim, mas quer na sua intimidade os que andam retamente. 33 A casa do perverso está sob a maldição do SENHOR, mas os retos beneficiam da sua bênção. 34 Ele rir-se-á dos que fazem troça de tudo, mas favorecerá os humildes. 35 Os que têm sabedoria adquirem honra, mas os insensatos obtêm para si desonra.

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. 3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you will find favor and good success* in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh* and refreshment* to your bones. 9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; 10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, 12 for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom

13 Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15 She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these— keep sound wisdom and discretion, 22 and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. 23 Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24 If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin* of the wicked, when it comes, 26 for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. 27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,* when it is in your power to do it. 28 Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you. 29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you. 30 Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm. 31 Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways, 32 for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence. 33 The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous. 34 Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor.* 35 The wise will inherit honor, but fools get* disgrace.
