1 Praise the Lord.* Praise the Lord, my soul. 2 I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. 3 Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. 4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. 5 Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. 6 He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them – he remains faithful for ever. 7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free, 8 the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous. 9 The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. 10 The Lord reigns for ever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Anima mia, loda il Signore. 2 Io loderò il Signore finché vivrò, salmeggerò al mio Dio finché esisterò. 3 Non confidate nei prìncipi, né in alcun figlio d’uomo, che non può salvare. 4 Il suo fiato se ne va, ed egli ritorna alla sua terra; in quel giorno periscono i suoi progetti. 5 Beato colui che ha per aiuto il Dio di Giacobbe e la cui speranza è nel Signore, suo Dio, 6 che ha fatto il cielo e la terra, il mare e tutto ciò che è in essi; che mantiene la fedeltà in eterno, 7 che rende giustizia agli oppressi, che dà il cibo agli affamati. Il Signore libera i prigionieri, 8 il Signore apre gli occhi ai ciechi, il Signore rialza gli oppressi, il Signore ama i giusti, 9 il Signore protegge i forestieri, sostenta l’orfano e la vedova, ma sconvolge la via degli empi. 10 Il Signore regna per sempre; il tuo Dio, o Sion, regna per ogni età.
