Rules for the Sabbath day

1 Moses gathered the whole community of Israel together. He said to them, ‘Here are the things the LORD has commanded you to do. 2 You must do your work in six days. But the seventh day will be your holy day. It will be a day of sabbath rest to honour the LORD. You must rest on it. Anyone who does any work on it must be put to death. 3 Do not even light a fire in any of your homes on the Sabbath day.’

Supplies for the holy tent

4 Moses spoke to the whole community of Israel. He said, ‘Here is what the LORD has commanded. 5 Take an offering for the LORD from what you have. Those who want to can bring an offering to the LORD. Here is what they can bring. ‘gold, silver and bronze 6 blue, purple and bright red yarn and fine linen goat hair 7 ram skins that are dyed red another kind of strong leather acacia wood 8 olive oil for the lights spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet-smelling incense 9 onyx stones and other jewels for the linen apron and the chest cloth 10 ‘All the skilled workers among you must come. They must make everything the LORD has commanded 11 for the holy tent and its covering. Here is what they must make. ‘hooks, frames, crossbars, posts and bases 12 the ark of the covenant law, the poles and cover for the ark, and the curtain that hides the ark 13 the table for the holy bread, the poles and all the things for the table, and the holy bread 14 the lampstand for light and everything used with it, the lamps, and the olive oil that gives light 15 the altar for burning incense, the poles for the altar, the anointing oil and the sweet-smelling incense the curtain for the entrance to the holy tent 16 the altar for burnt offerings with its bronze grate, its poles and all its tools the large bronze bowl with its stand 17 the curtains of the courtyard with their posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard 18 the ropes and tent stakes for the holy tent and for the courtyard 19 and the sacred clothes for Aaron the priest and the clothes for his sons when they serve as priests’ 20 Then the whole community of Israel left Moses. 21 Everyone who wanted to give offerings to the LORD brought them to him. The offerings were for the work on the tent of meeting. They were also for the sacred clothes and for any other purpose at the tent. 22 Every man and woman who wanted to give came. They brought gold jewellery of all kinds. They brought pins, earrings, rings and other jewellery. All of them gave their gold as a wave offering to the LORD. 23 People brought what they had. They brought blue, purple or bright red yarn or fine linen. They brought goat hair, ram skins dyed red, or the other kind of strong leather. 24 Some brought silver or bronze as an offering to the LORD. Others brought acacia wood for any part of the work. 25 All the skilled women spun yarn with their hands. They brought blue, purple or bright red yarn or fine linen. 26 All the skilled women who wanted to spin the goat hair did so. 27 The leaders brought onyx stones and other jewels for the linen apron and the chest cloth. 28 They also brought spices and olive oil. They brought them for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the sweet-smelling incense. 29 All the men and women of Israel who wanted to bring offerings to the LORD brought them to him. The offerings were for all the work the LORD had commanded Moses to tell them to do.

Bezalel and Oholiab

30 Then Moses spoke to the people of Israel. He said, ‘The LORD has chosen Bezalel, the son of Uri. Uri is the son of Hur. Bezalel is from the tribe of Judah. 31 The LORD has filled him with the Spirit of God. He has filled him with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skill. 32 Bezalel can make beautiful patterns in gold, silver and bronze. 33 He can cut and set stones. He can work with wood. In fact, he can work in all kinds of arts and crafts. 34 And the LORD has given both him and Oholiab the ability to teach others. Oholiab, the son of Ahisamak, is from the tribe of Dan. 35 The LORD has filled Bezalel and Oholiab with skill to do all kinds of work. They can carve things and make patterns. They can sew skilfully with blue, purple and bright red yarn and on fine linen. They use thread to make beautiful cloth. Both of them have the skill to work in all kinds of crafts.

La legge del sabato

1 Mosè convocò tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele e disse loro: «Queste sono le cose che il Signore ha ordinato di fare. 2 Sei giorni si dovrà lavorare, ma il settimo giorno sarà per voi un giorno santo, un sabato di solenne riposo, consacrato al Signore. Chiunque farà qualche lavoro in esso sarà messo a morte. 3 Non accenderete il fuoco in nessuna delle vostre abitazioni il giorno del sabato».

Le offerte per la costruzione del tabernacolo

4 Poi Mosè parlò a tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele, e disse: «Questo è ciò che il Signore ha ordinato: 5 “Prelevate da quello che avete un’offerta al Signore; chiunque è di cuore volenteroso farà un’offerta al Signore: oro, argento, bronzo; 6 stoffe di color violaceo, porporino, scarlatto, lino fino, pelo di capra, 7 pelli di montone tinte in rosso, pelli di delfino, legno di acacia, 8 olio per il candelabro, aromi per l’olio dell’unzione e per l’incenso aromatico, 9 pietre di ònice, pietre da incastonare per l’efod e per il pettorale. 10 Chiunque è abile in mezzo a voi venga ed esegua tutto quello che il Signore ha ordinato: 11 il tabernacolo, la sua tenda e la sua copertura, i suoi fermagli, le sue assi, le sue traverse, le sue colonne e le sue basi; 12 l’arca, le sue stanghe, il propiziatorio e il velo da stendere davanti all’arca; 13 la tavola e le sue stanghe, tutti i suoi utensili e il pane della presentazione; 14 il candelabro per la luce e i suoi utensili, le sue lampade e l’olio per il candelabro; 15 l’altare dei profumi e le sue stanghe, l’olio dell’unzione e l’incenso aromatico, la portiera dell’ingresso per l’entrata del tabernacolo; 16 l’altare degli olocausti con la sua gratella di bronzo, le sue stanghe e tutti i suoi utensili, la conca e la sua base; 17 le cortine del cortile, le sue colonne, le loro basi e la portiera all’ingresso del cortile; 18 i pioli del tabernacolo, i pioli del cortile e le loro funi; 19 i paramenti delle cerimonie per fare il servizio nel luogo santo, i paramenti sacri per il sacerdote Aaronne, e i paramenti dei suoi figli per esercitare il sacerdozio”». 20 Allora tutta l’assemblea dei figli d’Israele si ritirò dalla presenza di Mosè. 21 Tutti quelli che il proprio cuore spingeva e tutti quelli che il proprio spirito rendeva volenterosi vennero a portare l’offerta al Signore per l’opera della tenda di convegno, per tutto il suo servizio e per i paramenti sacri. 22 Vennero uomini e donne; quanti erano di cuore volenteroso portarono fermagli, orecchini, anelli da sigillare e braccialetti, ogni sorta di gioielli d’oro; ognuno portò qualche offerta d’oro al Signore. 23 Chiunque aveva delle stoffe tinte di violaceo, porporino, scarlatto, o lino fino, o pelo di capra, o pelli di montone tinte in rosso, o pelli di delfino, portò ogni cosa. 24 Chiunque presentava un’offerta d’argento e di bronzo, la portò come offerta consacrata al Signore; chiunque aveva del legno di acacia, lo portò per ogni lavoro destinato al servizio. 25 Tutte le donne abili filarono con le proprie mani e portarono i loro filati di color violaceo, porporino, scarlatto, e del lino fino. 26 Tutte le donne il cui cuore spinse a usare la loro abilità, filarono del pelo di capra. 27 I capi del popolo portarono pietre di ònice e pietre da incastonare per l’efod e per il pettorale, 28 aromi e olio per il candelabro, per l’olio dell’unzione e per l’incenso aromatico. 29 Tutti i figli d’Israele, uomini e donne, il cui cuore mosse a portare volenterosamente il necessario per tutta l’opera che il Signore aveva ordinata per mezzo di Mosè, portarono al Signore delle offerte volontarie.

Esecuzione dei lavori

30 Mosè disse ai figli d’Israele: «Vedete, il Signore ha chiamato per nome Besaleel, figlio di Uri, figlio di Cur, della tribù di Giuda; 31 lo ha riempito dello Spirito di Dio, per dargli sapienza, intelligenza e conoscenza per ogni sorta di lavori, 32 per concepire opere d’arte, per lavorare l’oro, l’argento e il bronzo, 33 per incidere pietre da incastonare, per scolpire il legno, per eseguire ogni sorta di lavori. 34 E gli ha comunicato il dono d’insegnare: a lui e a Ooliab, figlio di Aisamac, della tribù di Dan. 35 Li ha riempiti d’intelligenza per eseguire ogni sorta di lavori d’artigiano e di disegnatore, di ricamatore e di tessitore in colori svariati: violaceo, porporino, scarlatto, e di lino fino, per eseguire qualunque lavoro e per concepire lavori d’arte.
