1Estaba Jeremías aún en la cárcel cuando el SEÑOR le envió este otro mensaje:2El SEÑOR, el Creador del cielo y de la tierra —el SEÑOR es su nombre— dice así:3Pregúntame y yo te revelaré algunos importantes secretos acerca de lo que habrá de ocurrir aquí.4Pues aunque han derribado las casas de esta ciudad y el palacio del rey en busca de materiales para fortalecer las murallas contra las arremetidas del enemigo,5los babilonios penetrarán, y los habitantes de esta ciudad pueden darse por muertos, pues en mi cólera he decidido destruirlos. Los he abandonado por sus maldades, y no me compadeceré de ellos cuando pidan auxilio.6Sin embargo, vendrá el tiempo en que sanaré a Jerusalén y le daré prosperidad y paz.7Reconstruiré las ciudades de Judá e Israel y restauraré también su fortuna.8Y los limpiaré de todas sus acciones perversas contra mí y los perdonaré.9Entonces esta ciudad será honra para mí, me dará gozo y será para mí fuente de reconocimiento y gran fama ante todas las naciones de la tierra. Los pueblos del mundo verán el bien que le hago a mi pueblo y estarán asombrados de todos los bienes que les concederé a Judá e Israel.10El SEÑOR declara que las alegres voces de los novios y las desposadas, y los jubilosos cánticos de los que traen ofrendas de gratitud al SEÑOR se escucharán otra vez en esta tierra sentenciada. El pueblo cantará: «¡Rindan homenaje al SEÑOR! ¡Porque es bueno y su capacidad de perdonar no tiene límites!». Y es que daré a esta tierra mayor felicidad y prosperidad de la que nunca tuvo.12Este país, aunque toda persona, animal y ciudad de ella estén sentenciados, nuevamente verán pastores conduciendo ovejas y corderos.13Nuevamente sus rebaños se multiplicarán en los pueblos montañosos y en las ciudades al este de la llanura filistea, en todas las ciudades del sur, en la región de Benjamín, en la cercanía de Jerusalén y en todas las ciudades de Judá.14¡Sí, día viene, dice el SEÑOR, cuando yo haré por Israel y Judá todo el bien que les prometí!15Y en aquel tiempo haré subir al trono al verdadero Hijo de David, y él gobernará con justicia.16Y en aquel día los de Judá y Jerusalén vivirán en seguridad y su lema será: «El SEÑOR es nuestra justicia».17Porque el SEÑOR declara que desde entonces en adelante David tendrá por siempre un heredero que ocupe el trono de Israel.18Y habrá siempre levitas que presenten ofrendas quemadas, ofrendas de granos y sacrificios al SEÑOR.19Llegó luego a Jeremías este mensaje del SEÑOR:20Cuando puedan quebrantar mi pacto con el día y la noche, de modo que el día no venga cuando le corresponda, sólo entonces será quebrantado mi convenio con mi siervo David, de modo que no haya hijo suyo que reine en su trono. Y mi convenio con los sacerdotes y levitas ministros míos, no se deroga.22Y así como no se pueden contar las estrellas ni contarse los granos de arena de las playas, así los descendientes de mi servidor David y la descendencia de los levitas que para mí ministran se multiplicarán.23El SEÑOR le habló nuevamente a Jeremías diciendo:24¿Has oído lo que el pueblo dice? ¡Que el SEÑOR eligió a Judá e Israel y luego los abandonó! Se burlan y dicen que Israel no merece ser tenida como nación.25Pero esta es la respuesta del SEÑOR: ¡Yo no rechazaría a mi pueblo así como no modificaría mis leyes del día y la noche, de la tierra y el cielo! ¡Jamás abandonaré a los israelitas, ni a mi servidor David; no modificaré el plan de que un descendiente suyo gobierne un día sobre estos descendientes de Abraham, Isaac y Jacob! Por el contrario, les restauraré su prosperidad y tendré piedad de ellos, voy a liberarlos del cautiverio y traerlos de regreso a su tierra.

The Lord Promises Peace
1The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the guard:2“Thus says the Lord who made the earth,* the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name:3Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.4For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah that were torn down to make a defense against the siege mounds and against the sword:5They are coming in to fight against the Chaldeans and to fill them* with the dead bodies of men whom I shall strike down in my anger and my wrath, for I have hidden my face from this city because of all their evil.6Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.7I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as they were at first.8I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me.9And this city* shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them. They shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the prosperity I provide for it.10“Thus says the Lord: In this place of which you say, ‘It is a waste without man or beast,’ in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man or inhabitant or beast, there shall be heard again11the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voices of those who sing, as they bring thank offerings to the house of the Lord: “‘Give thanks to the Lord of hosts, for the Lord is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!’ For I will restore the fortunes of the land as at first, says the Lord.12“Thus says the Lord of hosts: In this place that is waste, without man or beast, and in all of its cities, there shall again be habitations of shepherds resting their flocks.13In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb, in the land of Benjamin, the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, flocks shall again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the Lord.
The Lord’s Eternal Covenant with David
14“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.15In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.16In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’17“For thus says the Lord: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,18and the Levitical priests shall never lack a man in my presence to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to make sacrifices forever.”19The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:20“Thus says the Lord: If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night will not come at their appointed time,21then also my covenant with David my servant may be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with the Levitical priests my ministers.22As the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sands of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levitical priests who minister to me.”23The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:24“Have you not observed that these people are saying, ‘The Lord has rejected the two clans that he chose’? Thus they have despised my people so that they are no longer a nation in their sight.25Thus says the Lord: If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth,26then I will reject the offspring of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his offspring to rule over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy on them.”
