1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: 2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge. 3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: 4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. 5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. 6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them . 7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. 8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: 9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: 10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger; 11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, 12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; 13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! 14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly. 15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. 16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. 17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers'with thee. 18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. 19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. 20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? 21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. 22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. 23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

1 Var uppmärksam, min son, och lyssna på mig! Jag vet vad jag säger. Lyssna! 2 Ge akt på dig själv så att du inte uppträder taktlöst utan talar som en förståndig man. 3 En annan mans hustru kan vara mycket förförisk, och hennes ord kan vara söta som honung när hon överöser dig med smicker. 4 Men efteråt kommer du bara att känna smärta och bitterhet. 5 Hon för dig till avgrundens brant och drar dig med sig i döden. 6 Hon förleder dig, så att du inte ens märker att du rusar mot fördärvet. 7 Unga män, lyssna på mig och glöm aldrig vad jag säger till var och en av er: 8 Fly från henne! Gå inte ens i närheten av hennes hus, 9 så att ni faller för hennes frestelser. Då förlorar ni er heder och blir redan i unga år offer för grymma och obarmhärtiga människor. 10 Då ska främlingar ta allt du äger, och allt vad du tjänat ihop kommer andra att lägga beslag på. 11 Till slut kommer du att vara fullständigt utmärglad, och under stönanden kommer du att tyna bort. 12 Då ska du säga: "Tänk om jag bara hade lyssnat! Varför var jag så ivrig att göra det jag själv ville? 13 Varför följde jag inte det råd jag fick? Varför var jag så dum? 14 Mitt liv är ruinerat och nu måste jag stå här och skämmas offentligt." 15 Var glad, min son, och var trogen mot din egen hustru. Hennes kärlek är en källa med friskt vatten för dig. 16 Varför ska du skaffa dig barn med andra kvinnor? 17 Hennes kärlek tillhör bara dig, och du ska inte dela den med någon annan. 18 Vad glad över din fru, som du som ung gifte dig med! 19 Låt hennes charm och sköna omfamningar tillfredsställa dig. Låt hennes kärlek vara det enda som gör dig upptänd. 20 Varför ska du ge din kärlek till en annan kvinna och slå armarna om den som inte är din? 21 Herren vakar noga över dig och ser allt du gör. 22 Den ogudaktige dömer sig själv. Hans synd är som rep, som fångat honom och håller honom fast. 23 Han kan inte lägga band på sig, och han gräver sin egen grav.
