1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

11 These things command and teach.

12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Varning för falsk undervisning

1 Guds Ande visar oss helt klart att det under den sista tiden innan Jesus kommer tillbaka ska finnas några i församlingen som överger sin tro på Jesus och istället börjar tro på falska läror som kommer från onda andar.

2 De människor som sprider dessa läror ger intryck av att lyda Gud, men de är lögnare och har för länge sedan dödat* sitt samvete.

3 De förbjuder folk att gifta sig och kräver att man avstår från en viss slags mat, trots att Gud har skapat maten för att vi som tror på Jesus och har lärt känna det sanna budskapet ska kunna äta och vara tacksamma.

4 Allt som Gud har skapat är bra och inget är förbjudet, om man bara tar emot det med tacksamhet.

5 När vi läser Guds Ord och tackar Gud för maten, blir den tillåten för oss.

Anvisningar till Timotheos

6 Om du förklarar detta för de troende, tjänar du Jesus Kristus på rätt sätt, och hämtar din kraft ur budskapet om honom och den sunda undervisning som du följer.

7 Håll dig borta från de dumma och gudlösa myterna. Se istället till att du håller dig i god andlig form.

8 Fysisk träning är bra på sitt sätt, men att träna sig i att lyda Gud är nyttigt på alla sätt. Den som lyder Gud har ju fått löfte om liv både i den här världen och i den kommande.

9 Detta budskap om räddning är sant och alla borde tro på det.

10 Därför arbetar vi också och kämpar, så att människor ska tro på budskapet. Vi vet ju att den Gud som lever, och som vill att alla människor ska bli räddade, en dag ska infria vårt hopp och ge evigt liv åt alla som tror på Jesus.

11 Förmana och undervisa de troende om den här sanningen.

12 Bry dig inte om att du är ung, utan se till att du vinner deras respekt genom att vara en förebild för de troende i allt du säger och gör. Älska dina medmänniskor, var stark i din tro och lev ett rent liv helt för Gud.

13 Läs högt ur Skriften* för de troende och förmana och undervisa dem tills jag kommer.

14 Glöm inte bort att utnyttja den förmåga Guds Ande gav dig när församlingens ledare la sina händer på dig för att inviga dig till din uppgift. I de budskap som människor då fick från Gud, utsågs du ju till att undervisa och förmana.

15 Kom ihåg att använda denna förmåga och lev helt för din uppgift, så att alla kan se de framsteg du gör i ditt liv som troende.

16 Tänk noga på hur du lever och undervisar. Håll fast vid det som är rätt, så kommer du att rädda både dig själv och dem som lyssnar på dig.
