Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!2For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb.3Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.*4Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.5Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.6He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.7Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!8Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.9For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.10In just a little while, the wicked will be no more; though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.11But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.12The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him,13but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he sees that his day is coming.14The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose way is upright;15their sword shall enter their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.16Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.17For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.18The Lord knows the days of the blameless, and their heritage will remain forever;19they are not put to shame in evil times; in the days of famine they have abundance.20But the wicked will perish; the enemies of the Lord are like the glory of the pastures; they vanish—like smoke they vanish away.21The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives;22for those blessed by the Lord* shall inherit the land, but those cursed by him shall be cut off.23The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way;24though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.25I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.26He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing.27Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever.28For the Lord loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.29The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell upon it forever.30The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.31The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.32The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to put him to death.33The Lord will not abandon him to his power or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.34Wait for the Lord and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.35I have seen a wicked, ruthless man, spreading himself like a green laurel tree.*36But he passed away,* and behold, he was no more; though I sought him, he could not be found.37Mark the blameless and behold the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace.38But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed; the future of the wicked shall be cut off.39The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.40The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.

1De David. Ne t'irrite pas contre les méchants, n'envie pas ceux qui font le mal,2car ils sont fauchés aussi vite que l'herbe, et ils se flétrissent comme le gazon vert.3Confie-toi en l'Eternel et fais le bien, aie le pays pour demeure, et que la fidélité soit ta nourriture!4Fais de l'Eternel tes délices, et il te donnera ce que ton cœur désire.5Recommande ton sort à l'Eternel, mets ta confiance en lui, et il agira:6il fera paraître ta justice comme la lumière, et ton droit comme le soleil en plein midi.7Garde le silence devant l'Eternel et espère en lui, ne t'irrite pas contre celui qui réussit dans ses entreprises, contre l'homme qui réalise ses méchants projets!8Laisse la colère, abandonne la fureur, ne t'irrite pas: ce serait mal faire,9car les méchants seront exterminés, mais ceux qui espèrent en l'Eternel possèdent le pays.10Encore un peu de temps, et le méchant n'existe plus; tu regardes l'endroit où il était, et il a disparu.11Les humbles possèdent le pays, et ils jouissent d'une paix abondante.12Le méchant complote contre le juste, et il grince des dents contre lui,13mais le Seigneur se moque du méchant, car il voit que son jour arrive.14Les méchants tirent l'épée, ils bandent leur arc pour faire tomber le malheureux et le pauvre, pour égorger ceux dont la voie est droite.15Mais leur épée transperce leur propre cœur, et leur arc se brise.16Mieux vaut le peu du juste que l'abondance de nombreux méchants,17car la force des méchants sera brisée, tandis que l'Eternel soutient les justes.18L'Eternel connaît les jours des hommes intègres, et leur héritage dure éternellement.19Ils ne sont pas couverts de honte quand vient le malheur et ils sont rassasiés quand la famine est là,20tandis que les méchants disparaissent, les ennemis de l'Eternel connaissent le même sort que les plus beaux pâturages: ils s'évanouissent, ils s'évanouissent comme une fumée.21Le méchant emprunte, et il ne rend pas; le juste est compatissant, et il donne,22car ceux que l'Eternel bénit possèdent le pays, et ceux qu'il maudit sont exterminés.23L'Eternel affermit les pas de l'homme, et il prend plaisir à sa voie;24s'il tombe, il n'est pas rejeté, car l'Eternel lui prend la main.25J'ai été jeune, j'ai vieilli, et je n'ai pas vu le juste être abandonné ni ses descendants mendier leur pain.26Il est toujours compatissant, il prête, et sa descendance est bénie.27Détourne-toi du mal, fais le bien, et tu auras pour toujours une demeure,28car l'Eternel aime ce qui est droit, et il n'abandonne pas ses fidèles: ils sont toujours sous sa garde, tandis que la descendance des méchants est exterminée.29Les justes posséderont le pays, et ils y demeureront définitivement.30La bouche du juste annonce la sagesse, et sa langue proclame la justice.31La loi de son Dieu est dans son cœur, ses pas ne faiblissent pas.32Le méchant épie le juste et cherche à le faire mourir,33mais l'Eternel ne le livre pas entre ses mains, et il ne le laisse pas condamner quand il est jugé.34Espère en l'Eternel, suis sa voie, et il t'élèvera pour que tu possèdes le pays, tandis que tu verras les méchants exterminés.35J'ai vu l'homme violent dans toute sa puissance: il s'étendait comme un arbre verdoyant,36mais il est passé et il n'existe plus; je le cherche, et je ne le trouve plus.37Observe celui qui est intègre et regarde celui qui est droit, car il y a un avenir pour l'homme de paix,38tandis que les rebelles sont tous détruits, l'avenir des méchants est réduit à néant.39Le salut des justes vient de l'Eternel: il est leur forteresse dans les moments de détresse.40L'Eternel les secourt et les délivre, il les délivre des méchants et les sauve, parce qu'ils cherchent refuge en lui.
