A Miktam* of David; for instruction; when he strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, and when Joab on his return struck down twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt. O God, you have rejected us, broken our defenses; you have been angry; oh, restore us.2You have made the land to quake; you have torn it open; repair its breaches, for it totters.3You have made your people see hard things; you have given us wine to drink that made us stagger.4You have set up a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee to it from the bow.*5That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer us!6God has spoken in his holiness:* “With exultation I will divide up Shechem and portion out the Vale of Succoth.7Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet; Judah is my scepter.8Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I cast my shoe; over Philistia I shout in triumph.”*9Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?10Have you not rejected us, O God? (اين مزمور را داوود هنگامی نوشت كه با لشکر سوری در جنگ بود و هنوز معلوم نبود كدام طرف برنده خواهد شد. اين همان جنگی است كه يوآب، سردار لشکر داوود، دوازده هزار ادومی را در«درهٔ نمک» از پای درآورد.)
1ای خدا، تو ما را طرد كردهای، ما را پراكنده ساخته و بر ما خشمگين بودهای؛ اما اينک به سوی ما بازگرد.2زمين را لرزان ساخته و آن را شكافتهای؛ شكافهايش را به هم آور، زيرا نزديک است متلاشی شود.3به قوم برگزيدهات سختیهای فراوان دادهای؛ ما را همچون افراد مست گيج و سرگردان نمودهای.4تو برای كسانی كه تو را گرامی میدارند پرچمی به اهتزاز درآوردهای تا آنان را در مقابل تيرهای دشمن در امان داری.5ای خدايی كه ما را دوست داری، با قدرت خويش ما را نجات ده و دعای ما را اجابت فرما.6خدا در خانهٔ مقدس خويش سخن گفته و فرموده است: «با پيروزی شهر شكيم و درهٔ سوكوت را بين قوم خود تقسيم خواهم كرد.7جلعاد و منسی از آن من است؛ افرايم كلاهخود من و يهودا عصای سلطنت من است.8اما قوم موآب را مانند لگن برای شستشو به کار خواهم برد، بر قوم ادوم كفشم را خواهم انداخت و بر فلسطين فرياد برخواهم آورد.»9كيست كه مرا برای گرفتن شهرهای حصاردار ادوم رهبری كند؟ ای خدا، تو ما را رهبری كن؛ بلی، تو كه اينک از ما روگردان شدهای، ما را رهبری كن!11تو ما را در جنگ با دشمن كمک كن، زيرا كمک انسان بیفايده است.12با كمک تو ای خدا، پيروز خواهيم شد، زيرا تو دشمنان ما را شكست خواهی داد!
