Give Thanks to the Lord

1 Of David. I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise; 2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.* 3 On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.* 4 All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth, 5 and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord. 6 For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar. 7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me. 8 The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.

1 Von David. Von ganzem Herzen will ich dir danken, zum Spiel auf der Harfe will ich dich loben vor den Göttern. 2 Ich werfe mich anbetend nieder vor deinem heiligen Tempel und preise deinen Namen wegen deiner Güte und Treue. Denn deine Zusage ist noch größer als alle bisherigen, die man mit deinem Namen verbindet.* 3 An dem Tag, als ich zu dir rief, hast du mich erhört; du hast mir Mut verliehen und meiner Seele Kraft gegeben. 4 Alle Könige der Erde werden dir danken, HERR, wenn sie die Worte hören, die dein Mund gesprochen hat. 5 Sie werden die Wege ´und Taten` des HERRN besingen, denn groß ist die Herrlichkeit des HERRN. 6 Ja, hoch und erhaben ist der HERR – und doch achtet er auf den Bescheidenen, den Hochmütigen aber durchschaut er schon von ferne. 7 Führt mich mein Weg mitten durch die Not, so schenkst du mir neue Lebenskraft. Du streckst deine Hand aus und wehrst den Zorn meiner Feinde ab, mit deinem mächtigen Arm rettest du mich*. 8 Der HERR wird alles für mich zu einem guten Ende bringen! HERR, deine Güte währt ewig; und was du zu tun begonnen hast, davon wirst du nicht ablassen*.
