1Wenn Jahwe, dein Gott, die Völker beseitigt, deren Land er dir geben wird, wenn du ihren Besitz übernimmst und dich in ihren Städten und Häusern niederlässt,2dann sollst du drei von diesen Städten auswählen.3Achte darauf, dass sie gleichmäßig verteilt und immer gut erreichbar in dem Land sind, das Jahwe, dein Gott, dir gibt, und teile das Land dazu in drei Bezirke ein. Jeder, der zum Mörder geworden ist, soll dorthin fliehen können.4Gemeint ist einer, der unabsichtlich zum Mörder wurde und seinen Nächsten nicht schon vorher hasste.5Es kann zum Beispiel vorkommen, dass einer mit seinem Nachbarn in den Wald geht, um Holz zu schlagen. Da löst sich, während er mit der Axt ausholt, das Eisen vom Stiel und trifft den anderen tödlich. In diesem Fall kann der Totschläger in eine dieser Städte fliehen, um sein Leben zu retten.6Der Weg dorthin darf nicht zu weit sein, damit der Bluträcher, der den Totschläger wutentbrannt verfolgt, ihn nicht einholen kann und ihn erschlägt, obwohl dieser den Tod nicht verdient, weil er die getötete Person ja nicht hasste.7Darum befehle ich dir, zunächst drei Städte auszusondern.8Wenn Jahwe, dein Gott, dein Gebiet erweitern wird, wie er es deinen Vorfahren geschworen hat, und dir das ganze Land gibt, das er ihnen versprochen hat –9vorausgesetzt, du hältst alle diese Gebote, die ich dir heute gebe und handelst danach, indem du Jahwe, deinen Gott, liebst und jeden Tag auf seinen Wegen gehst –, dann sollst du noch drei weitere Asylstädte auswählen.10So sollst du dafür sorgen, dass in dem Land, das Jahwe, dein Gott, dir gibt, kein unschuldiges Blut vergossen wird und keine Blutschuld auf dich kommt.11Wenn aber jemand seinen Nächsten hasst, ihm auflauert, ihn überfällt und erschlägt und dann in eine dieser Städte flieht,12dann müssen die Ältesten seiner Heimatstadt ihn von dort holen lassen und dem Bluträcher ausliefern.13Du darfst kein Mitleid mit ihm haben. Du musst Israel vom Blut des Unschuldigen befreien, damit es dir gut geht.
Schutz der Grundstücksgrenzen
14Wenn du das Land in Besitz genommen hast, das Jahwe, dein Gott, dir gibt, und du auf deinem Grundstück lebst, darfst du die Grenze zu deinem Nächsten, die die Vorfahren gezogen haben, nicht verändern.
Zeugen vor Gericht
15Die Aussage eines einzelnen Zeugen darf nicht ausschlaggebend sein, wenn es um ein Verbrechen, eine Sünde oder irgendeine Verfehlung geht. Auf die Aussage von zwei oder drei Zeugen hin soll eine Entscheidung getroffen werden.[1] (Mt 18,16; 2Kor 13,1)16Wenn ein falscher Zeuge gegen jemand auftritt, um ihn einer Übertretung zu beschuldigen,17dann sollen die beiden Männer, zwischen denen der Streit besteht, vor Jahwe treten, vor die Priester und die Richter, die zu jener Zeit da sein werden.18Die Richter sollen den Fall genau untersuchen. Wenn der Zeuge wissentlich falsch gegen seinen Bruder ausgesagt hat,19dann sollst du ihm antun, was er seinem Bruder zu tun gedachte. Du sollst das Böse aus deiner Mitte entfernen.20Die Übrigen sollen es hören, damit sie sich fürchten und nie mehr solch eine böse Sache in deiner Mitte tun.21Da sollst du kein Mitleid kennen: Leben für Leben, Auge für Auge, Zahn für Zahn, Hand für Hand, Fuß für Fuß.
1When the Lord your God has destroyed the nations whose land he is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their towns and houses,2then set aside for yourselves three cities in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess.3Determine the distances involved and divide into three parts the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, so that a person who kills someone may flee for refuge to one of these cities.4This is the rule concerning anyone who kills a person and flees there for safety – anyone who kills a neighbour unintentionally, without malice aforethought.5For instance, a man may go into the forest with his neighbour to cut wood, and as he swings his axe to fell a tree, the head may fly off and hit his neighbour and kill him. That man may flee to one of these cities and save his life.6Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue him in a rage, overtake him if the distance is too great, and kill him even though he is not deserving of death, since he did it to his neighbour without malice aforethought.7This is why I command you to set aside for yourselves three cities.8If the Lord your God enlarges your territory, as he promised on oath to your ancestors, and gives you the whole land he promised them,9because you carefully follow all these laws I command you today – to love the Lord your God and to walk always in obedience to him – then you are to set aside three more cities.10Do this so that innocent blood will not be shed in your land, which the Lord your God is giving you as your inheritance, and so that you will not be guilty of bloodshed.11But if out of hate someone lies in wait, assaults and kills a neighbour, and then flees to one of these cities,12the killer shall be sent for by the town elders, be brought back from the city, and be handed over to the avenger of blood to die.13Show no pity. You must purge from Israel the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with you.14Do not move your neighbour’s boundary stone set up by your predecessors in the inheritance you receive in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess.
Witnesses
15One witness is not enough to convict anyone accused of any crime or offence they may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.16If a malicious witness takes the stand to accuse someone of a crime,17the two people involved in the dispute must stand in the presence of the Lord before the priests and the judges who are in office at the time.18The judges must make a thorough investigation, and if the witness proves to be a liar, giving false testimony against a fellow Israelite,19then do to the false witness as that witness intended to do to the other party. You must purge the evil from among you.20The rest of the people will hear of this and be afraid, and never again will such an evil thing be done among you.21Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Вы должны искоренить зло из своей среды.20Остальной народ услышит об этом и испугается, и впредь такое зло никогда не повторится.21Не поддавайся жалости: жизнь за жизнь, глаз за глаз, зуб за зуб, рука за руку, нога за ногу.
