1Als Ahas Ben-Jotam, der Enkel von Usija, König über Juda war,[1] zogen die Könige Rezin von Syrien und Pekach Ben-Remalja von Israel gegen Jerusalem.[2] Sie griffen die Stadt an, konnten sie aber nicht erobern. (2Kön 15,27)2Schon als dem Königshaus gemeldet wurde, dass die syrischen Truppen im Gebiet von Efraïm[3] stünden, fürchteten sich der König und sein ganzes Volk. Sie zitterten wie vom Sturm geschüttelte Bäume im Wald.3Da sagte Jahwe zu Jesaja: "Geh mit deinem Sohn Schear-Jaschub[4] hinaus auf die Straße, die zu dem Feld führt, wo die Tuchmacher ihre Stoffe bleichen, an das Ende der Wasserleitung beim oberen Teich. Dort wirst du König Ahas treffen.4Sag zu ihm: 'Bleib ruhig und handle nicht unüberlegt. Hab keine Angst vor Rezin und Ben-Remalja[5] und ihrem Zorn. Es sind nur qualmende Brennholzstummel.5Weil die Syrer unter Rezin und die Efraïmiten unter Ben-Remalja den bösen Plan geschmiedet haben,6nach Juda zu ziehen, den Leuten dort Angst einzujagen, ihr Land in Besitz zu nehmen und den Sohn von Tabeal als König einzusetzen,7sagt Jahwe, der Herr:
Das wird nicht zustande kommen, / das wird nicht geschehen.8Damaskus wird nur Syriens Hauptstadt bleiben, / und Rezin nur dort König sein.[6] Es dauert nur noch 65 Jahre, / dann wird auch Efraïm zerschlagen sein / und als Volk nicht mehr bestehen.[7]9Bis dahin ist Samaria nur noch die Hauptstadt von Efraïm, / und Ben-Remalja muss mit Samaria zufrieden sein. / Hat euer Glaube keinen Bestand, werdet auch ihr nicht bestehen!'"10Jahwe sprach weiter zu Ahas und ließ ihm sagen:11"Fordere dir ein Zeichen zur Bestätigung von Jahwe, deinem Gott, ganz gleich ob aus der Höhe des Himmels oder der Tiefe der Totenwelt."12Doch Ahas erwiderte: "Nein, ich will kein Zeichen verlangen, ich will Jahwe nicht auf die Probe stellen."13Da sagte Jesaja: "Hört zu, ihr vom Königshaus! Reicht es euch nicht, dass ihr den Menschen zur Last fallt? Müsst ihr auch noch die Geduld meines Gottes strapazieren?14Deshalb wird euch der Herr selbst ein Zeichen geben. Seht, die ‹unberührte› junge Frau[8] wird schwanger werden und einen Sohn zur Welt bringen, den sie Immanuël, Gott-mit-uns, nennt.[9] (1Mo 24,16; 1Mo 24,43; Mt 1,23)15Er wird Dickmilch[10] und Honig essen, bis er versteht, das Böse zu verwerfen und das Gute zu erwählen.16Und bevor er alt genug ist, Gut und Böse zu unterscheiden, wird das Land der beiden Könige verwüstet sein, vor denen dir jetzt graut.[11] (Mt 1,21)17Aber Jahwe wird über dich, dein Volk und deine Familie eine Unglückszeit kommen lassen, wie es sie seit der Trennung Efraïms von Juda[12] nicht gegeben hat. Das Unglück wird der König von Assyrien sein.18An dem Tag wird Jahwe sowohl den Fliegenschwarm aus dem Nildelta von Ägypten als auch den Bienenschwarm aus Assyrien herbeipfeifen.19Sie werden kommen und sich überall niederlassen: in Talschluchten und Felsspalten, in Dornenhecken und an jeder Wasserstelle.20Dann wird der Herr das Schermesser kommen lassen, das er auf der anderen Seite des Euphrat in Dienst genommen hat, nämlich den König von Assyrien, und euch den Kopf, die Schamhaare und den Bart abscheren.[13]21Wenn diese Zeit kommt, wird jeder nur noch eine Kuh und zwei Ziegen haben.22Aber die werden so viel Milch geben, dass jeder Dickmilch essen muss. Denn von Dickmilch und Honig muss jeder leben, der im Land übrig geblieben ist.23Dann wird jeder Weinberg den Dornen und Disteln gehören, selbst solche, die 1000 Weinstöcke haben, von denen jeder ein ‹Schekel› Silber[14] wert war.24Nur mit Pfeil und Bogen wird man noch dorthin gehen, denn all das Land wird voller Dornen und Disteln sein.25Und die Berghänge, die man jetzt noch mit der Hacke bestellt, wird niemand mehr betreten, weil sie sich in Dornengestrüpp und Disteln verwandelt haben. Nur Rinder und Kleinvieh treibt man noch dorthin."
1When Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem, but they could not overpower it.2Now the house of David was told, ‘Aram has allied itself with[1] Ephraim’; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.3Then the Lord said to Isaiah, ‘Go out, you and your son Shear-Jashub,[2] to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field.4Say to him, “Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smouldering stubs of firewood – because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.5Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have plotted your ruin, saying,6‘Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it.’7Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘ “It will not take place, it will not happen,8for the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is only Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people.9The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” ’10Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz,11‘Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.’12But Ahaz said, ‘I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.’13Then Isaiah said, ‘Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also?14Therefore the Lord himself will give you[3] a sign: the virgin[4] will conceive and give birth to a son, and[5] will call him Immanuel.[6]15He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,16for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.17The Lord will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah – he will bring the king of Assyria.’
Assyria, the Lord’s instrument
18In that day the Lord will whistle for flies from the Nile delta in Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria.19They will all come and settle in the steep ravines and in the crevices in the rocks, on all the thornbushes and at all the water holes.20In that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the River Euphrates – the king of Assyria – to shave your heads and private parts, and to cut off your beards also.21In that day, a person will keep alive a young cow and two goats.22And because of the abundance of the milk they give, there will be curds to eat. All who remain in the land will eat curds and honey.23In that day, in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels,[7] there will be only briers and thorns.24Hunters will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with briers and thorns.25As for all the hills once cultivated by the hoe, you will no longer go there for fear of the briers and thorns; they will become places where cattle are turned loose and where sheep run.
