Psalm 75

New International Version

from Biblica

For the director of music. To the tune of ‘Do Not Destroy’. A psalm of Asaph. A song.

1 We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds. 2 You say, ‘I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity. 3 When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm.[1] 4 To the arrogant I say, “Boast no more,” and to the wicked, “Do not lift up your horns.[2] 5 Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak so defiantly.” ’ 6 No-one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt themselves. 7 It is God who judges: he brings one down, he exalts another. 8 In the hand of the Lord is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs. 9 As for me, I will declare this for ever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob, 10 who says, ‘I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.’

Psalm 75

English Standard Version

from Crossway

God Will Judge with Equity

1 To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We[1] recount your wondrous deeds. (Ps 50:1; Ps 57:1; Ps 145:18) 2 “At the set time that I appoint I will judge with equity. (Ps 17:2; Ps 102:13; Da 8:19; Hab 2:3) 3 When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars. (1Sa 2:8; Isa 24:19) 4 I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn; (Ps 75:10; Zec 1:21) 5 do not lift up your horn on high, or speak with haughty neck.’” 6 For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, (Ps 3:3) 7 but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another. (1Sa 2:7; Ps 50:6; Da 2:21) 8 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs. (Job 21:20; Ps 11:6; Ps 73:10; Pr 23:30) 9 But I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. 10 All the horns of the wicked I will cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up. (1Sa 2:1; Ps 75:4; Ps 89:17; Ps 112:9; Jer 48:25)
