Psalm 30

New International Version

from Biblica

A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple. Of David.

1 I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.[1] 2 Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. 3 You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit. 4 Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favour lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. 6 When I felt secure, I said, ‘I shall never be shaken.’ 7 Lord, when you favoured me, you made my royal mountain[2] stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. 8 To you, Lord, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: 9 ‘What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? 10 Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me; Lord, be my help.’ 11 You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, 12 that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you for ever.

Psalm 30

English Standard Version

from Crossway

Joy Comes with the Morning

1 A Psalm of David. A song at the dedication of the temple. I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. (2Sa 5:11; 1Ch 22:1; Ps 13:4; Ps 25:2; Ps 35:19; Ps 35:24; Ps 107:32) 2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. (Ps 6:2; Ps 88:13) 3 O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.[1] (Ps 16:10; Ps 28:1) 4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.[2] (1Ch 16:4; Ps 50:5; Ps 97:12) 5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime.[3] Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. (Job 33:26; Ps 63:3; Ps 103:9; Ps 126:5; Isa 26:20; Isa 54:7; 2Co 4:17) 6 As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” (Job 29:18; Ps 10:6; Pr 1:32) 7 By your favor, O Lord, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed. (De 31:17; 2Sa 5:9; 2Sa 24:10; Ps 104:29) 8 To you, O Lord, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy: (Ps 142:1) 9 “What profit is there in my death,[4] if I go down to the pit?[5] Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? (Ps 6:5) 10 Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me! O Lord, be my helper!” (Ps 27:7) 11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, (Ex 15:20; 2Sa 6:14; Ps 149:3; Ps 150:4; Jer 31:4; Jer 31:13; La 5:15) 12 that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever! (Ps 16:9)
