Psalm 114

New International Version

from Biblica
1 When Israel came out of Egypt, Jacob from a people of foreign tongue, 2 Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion. 3 The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back; 4 the mountains leaped like rams, the hills like lambs. 5 Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back? 6 Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs? 7 Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, 8 who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.

Psalm 114

English Standard Version

from Crossway

Tremble at the Presence of the Lord

1 When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, (Ge 42:23; Ex 12:37; Ps 81:5) 2 Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion. (Ex 15:17; Ex 25:8; Ps 78:68) 3 The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back. (Jos 3:13; Ps 77:16) 4 The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. (Ex 19:18; Ps 18:7; Ps 29:6) 5 What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? (Hab 3:8) 6 O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs? 7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, (Ps 96:9) 8 who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water. (Nu 20:11; De 8:15; Ps 78:15; Ps 107:35)
