1The land allotted to the tribe of Judah, according to its clans, extended down to the territory of Edom, to the Desert of Zin in the extreme south.2Their southern boundary started from the bay at the southern end of the Dead Sea,3crossed south of Scorpion Pass, continued on to Zin and went over to the south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it ran past Hezron up to Addar and curved around to Karka.4It then passed along to Azmon and joined the Wadi of Egypt, ending at the Mediterranean Sea. This is their southern boundary.5The eastern boundary is the Dead Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The northern boundary started from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan,6went up to Beth Hoglah and continued north of Beth Arabah to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.7The boundary then went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor and turned north to Gilgal, which faces the Pass of Adummim south of the gorge. It continued along to the waters of En Shemesh and came out at En Rogel.8Then it ran up the Valley of Ben Hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusite city (that is, Jerusalem). From there it climbed to the top of the hill west of the Hinnom Valley at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.9From the hilltop the boundary headed towards the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, came out at the towns of Mount Ephron and went down towards Baalah (that is, Kiriath Jearim).10Then it curved westward from Baalah to Mount Seir, ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Kesalon), continued down to Beth Shemesh and crossed to Timnah.11It went to the northern slope of Ekron, turned towards Shikkeron, passed along to Mount Baalah and reached Jabneel. The boundary ended at the sea.12The western boundary is the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. These are the boundaries around the people of Judah by their clans.13In accordance with the Lord’s command to him, Joshua gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh a portion in Judah – Kiriath Arba, that is, Hebron. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)14From Hebron Caleb drove out the three Anakites – Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai, the sons of Anak.15From there he marched against the people living in Debir (formerly called Kiriath Sepher).16And Caleb said, ‘I will give my daughter Aksah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.’17Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Aksah to him in marriage.18One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, ‘What can I do for you?’ (Jud 1:14)19She replied, ‘Do me a special favour. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.’ So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.20This is the inheritance of the tribe of Judah, according to its clans:21The southernmost towns of the tribe of Judah in the Negev towards the boundary of Edom were: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,22Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah,23Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan,24Ziph, Telem, Bealoth,25Hazor Hadattah, Kerioth Hezron (that is, Hazor),26Amam, Shema, Moladah,27Hazar Gaddah, Heshmon, Beth Pelet,28Hazar Shual, Beersheba, Biziothiah,29Baalah, Iyim, Ezem,30Eltolad, Kesil, Hormah,31Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah,32Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain and Rimmon – a total of twenty-nine towns and their villages.33In the western foothills: Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah,34Zanoah, En Gannim, Tappuah, Enam,35Jarmuth, Adullam, Sokoh, Azekah,36Shaaraim, Adithaim and Gederah (or Gederothaim) – fourteen towns and their villages.37Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal Gad,38Dilean, Mizpah, Joktheel,39Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon,40Kabbon, Lahmas, Kitlish,41Gederoth, Beth Dagon, Naamah and Makkedah – sixteen towns and their villages.42Libnah, Ether, Ashan,43Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib,44Keilah, Akzib and Mareshah – nine towns and their villages.45Ekron, with its surrounding settlements and villages;46west of Ekron, all that were in the vicinity of Ashdod, together with their villages;47Ashdod, its surrounding settlements and villages; and Gaza, its settlements and villages, as far as the Wadi of Egypt and the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.48In the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, Sokoh,49Dannah, Kiriath Sannah (that is, Debir),50Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim,51Goshen, Holon and Giloh – eleven towns and their villages.52Arab, Dumah, Eshan,53Janim, Beth Tappuah, Aphekah,54Humtah, Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) and Zior – nine towns and their villages.55Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah,56Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah,57Kain, Gibeah and Timnah – ten towns and their villages.58Halhul, Beth Zur, Gedor,59Maarath, Beth Anoth and Eltekon – six towns and their villages.60Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim) and Rabbah – two towns and their villages.61In the wilderness: Beth Arabah, Middin, Sekakah,62Nibshan, the City of Salt and En Gedi – six towns and their villages.63Judah could not dislodge the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the people of Judah.

The Allotment for Judah
1The allotment for the tribe of the people of Judah according to their clans reached southward to the boundary of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin at the farthest south. (Nu 33:36; Nu 34:3)2And their south boundary ran from the end of the Salt Sea, from the bay that faces southward. (Jos 15:1)3It goes out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, passes along to Zin, and goes up south of Kadesh-barnea, along by Hezron, up to Addar, turns about to Karka, (Nu 34:4; Jud 1:36)4passes along to Azmon, goes out by the Brook of Egypt, and comes to its end at the sea. This shall be your south boundary. (Nu 34:5; Jos 13:3; Jos 15:47)5And the east boundary is the Salt Sea, to the mouth of the Jordan. And the boundary on the north side runs from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. (Jos 15:1)6And the boundary goes up to Beth-hoglah and passes along north of Beth-arabah. And the boundary goes up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. (Jos 18:17; Jos 18:18; Jos 18:19; Jos 18:21; Jos 18:22)7And the boundary goes up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, and so northward, turning toward Gilgal, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the valley. And the boundary passes along to the waters of En-shemesh and ends at En-rogel. (Jos 7:26; Jos 18:16; Jos 18:17; 2Sa 17:17; 1Ki 1:9)8Then the boundary goes up by the Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the southern shoulder of the Jebusite (that is, Jerusalem). And the boundary goes up to the top of the mountain that lies over against the Valley of Hinnom, on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. (Jos 12:4; Jos 15:63; Jos 18:16; Jos 18:28; Jud 19:10; 2Ki 23:10; 1Ch 11:4)9Then the boundary extends from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and from there to the cities of Mount Ephron. Then the boundary bends around to Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim). (Jos 15:60; Jos 18:15; 1Ch 13:6)10And the boundary circles west of Baalah to Mount Seir, passes along to the northern shoulder of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), and goes down to Beth-shemesh and passes along by Timnah. (Ge 38:12; Jud 14:1; 1Sa 6:9; 1Sa 6:12)11The boundary goes out to the shoulder of the hill north of Ekron, then the boundary bends around to Shikkeron and passes along to Mount Baalah and goes out to Jabneel. Then the boundary comes to an end at the sea. (Jos 13:3; Jos 15:9)12And the west boundary was the Great Sea with its coastline. This is the boundary around the people of Judah according to their clans. (Nu 34:6; Jos 15:47; Jos 23:4; Eze 47:20)13According to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, he gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion among the people of Judah, Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak). (Jos 14:13; Jos 15:54)14And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak, Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. (Nu 13:22; Jud 1:10; Jud 1:20)15And he went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir. Now the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher. (Jos 15:49; Jud 1:11)16And Caleb said, “Whoever strikes Kiriath-sepher and captures it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.”17And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife. (Jos 14:6; Jos 14:13; Jud 1:13)18When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she got off her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?”19She said to him, “Give me a blessing.
