Der Engel des Herrn kündigt Simsons Geburt an

1 Wieder taten die Israeliten, was dem HERRN missfiel. Da gab der HERR sie vierzig Jahre lang in die Gewalt der Philister. 2 In jener Zeit lebte ein Mann namens Manoach. Er kam aus der Stadt Zora und gehörte zum Stamm Dan. Manoachs Frau war unfruchtbar und hatte keine Kinder. 3 Eines Tages erschien der Engel des HERRN Manoachs Frau und kündigte ihr an: »Obwohl du unfruchtbar bist und bis jetzt keine Kinder hast, wirst du schwanger werden und einen Sohn zur Welt bringen. 4 Achte von nun an darauf, dass du weder Wein noch Bier trinkst und keine unreinen Speisen isst. 5 Ja, du wirst schwanger werden und einen Sohn zur Welt bringen! Seine Haare dürfen niemals geschnitten werden, denn von Mutterleib an wird er Gott geweiht sein.^[1] Mit ihm wird die Rettung eures Volks aus der Gewalt der Philister ihren Anfang nehmen.« (4Mo 6,1) 6 Die Frau ging zu Manoach und erzählte ihm: »Ein Mann Gottes ist zu mir gekommen. Er sah aus wie ein Engel, und ich bekam große Angst. Ich habe ihn nicht gefragt, woher er kommt, und er hat mir auch nicht seinen Namen genannt. 7 Er sagte zu mir: ›Du wirst schwanger werden und einen Sohn zur Welt bringen. Trink von nun an weder Wein noch Bier und iss keine unreinen Speisen, denn dein Sohn wird von Mutterleib an bis zu seinem Tod Gott geweiht sein.‹« 8 Da bat Manoach den HERRN: »Bitte, Herr, lass den Mann Gottes, den du zu meiner Frau gesandt hast, noch einmal zu uns kommen. Er soll uns sagen, wie wir mit dem Sohn, den wir bekommen, umgehen sollen.« 9 Gott erhörte Manoachs Bitte. Der Engel Gottes kam noch einmal zu seiner Frau, als sie gerade draußen auf dem Feld war. Wieder war Manoach nicht dabei. 10 Doch diesmal rannte sie, so schnell sie konnte, zu ihm und rief: »›Der Mann, der vor Kurzem bei mir war, ist wieder da!« 11 Sofort stand Manoach auf und folgte seiner Frau hinaus aufs Feld. Er trat auf den Mann zu und fragte: »Bist du der Mann, der vor Kurzem mit meiner Frau geredet hat?« »Ja, der bin ich«, antwortete dieser. 12 »Wenn deine Ankündigung eintrifft«, fragte Manoach weiter, »wie sollen wir dann mit dem Jungen umgehen? Was darf er tun und was nicht?« 13 »Es beginnt schon bei deiner Frau«, antwortete der Engel des HERRN. »Sie soll alles meiden, was ich ihr genannt habe: 14 Sie darf keine Trauben essen, weder Wein noch Bier trinken und keine unreinen Speisen zu sich nehmen. Diese Anweisungen soll sie genau befolgen!« 15 Manoach bat ihn: »Würdest du noch einen Moment hierbleiben? Wir würden dir gerne einen jungen Ziegenbock zubereiten.« 16 Der Engel des HERRN entgegnete: »Du kannst mich gerne hierbehalten, doch essen werde ich nichts. Aber wenn du willst, kannst du den Ziegenbock dem HERRN als Brandopfer darbringen.« Manoach hatte noch nicht erkannt, dass er den Engel des HERRN vor sich hatte. 17 Deshalb fragte er: »Wie ist dein Name? Wir wollen uns angemessen bei dir bedanken^[2], sobald deine Ankündigung sich erfüllt hat.« 18 »Warum fragst du nach meinem Namen?«, erwiderte der Engel des HERRN. »Er ist wunderbar und geheimnisvoll.« 19 Manoach holte den jungen Ziegenbock sowie etwas Brot als Speiseopfer und brachte beides auf einem Felsblock dem HERRN als Brandopfer dar. Da tat der HERR vor den Augen von Manoach und seiner Frau ein Wunder^[3]: 20 Als das Feuer des Brandopfers zum Himmel aufloderte, fuhr der Engel des HERRN in den Flammen empor und verschwand. Als Manoach und seine Frau das sahen, fielen sie auf die Knie und berührten mit der Stirn den Boden. 21 Das war ihre letzte Begegnung mit dem Engel des HERRN. Manoach begriff, mit wem sie gesprochen hatten, 22 und sagte zu seiner Frau: »Wir haben Gott gesehen. Jetzt werden wird sterben.« 23 Doch seine Frau erwiderte: »Wenn der HERR uns hätte töten wollen, hätte er unser Brand- und Speiseopfer nicht angenommen und hätte uns nicht das alles erleben lassen. Und erst recht hätte er uns nicht die Geburt eines Sohnes angekündigt^[4].« 24 Manoachs Frau brachte einen Sohn zur Welt und gab ihm den Namen Simson. Unter dem Segen des HERRN wuchs der Junge heran.

25 Der Geist des HERRN begann, Simson umzutreiben^[5]. Damals befand er sich in Machane-Dan^[6] zwischen Zora und Eschtaol.

1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. 2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not. 3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. 4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing : 5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. 6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was , neither told he me his name: 7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing : for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death. 8 Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. 9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her. 10 And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day. 11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am . 12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him? 13 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware. 14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing : all that I commanded her let her observe. 15 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee. 16 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD. 17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour? 18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret? 19 So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on. 20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it , and fell on their faces to the ground. 21 But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD. 22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. 23 But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things , nor would as at this time have told us such things as these. 24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him. 25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.
