1 Der HERR sagte zu Mose: 2 »Weihe mir alle Erstgeborenen! Alle ältesten Söhne und alle erstgeborenen männlichen Tiere der Israeliten gehören mir.^[1]«

3 Mose ermahnte das Volk: »Behaltet den heutigen Tag, an dem ihr euer Sklavendasein in Ägypten^[2] hinter euch lasst, ´für immer` im Gedächtnis. Denn der HERR hat euch mit starker Hand ´aus der Unterdrückung` befreit. Esst ´auch in Zukunft an diesem Tag` kein Brot aus Sauerteig. 4 Heute, im Monat Abib^[3], verlasst ihr ´Ägypten`. 5 Der HERR wird euch in das Gebiet der Kanaaniter, Hetiter, Amoriter, Hiwiter und Jebusiter bringen, das er euren Vorfahren mit einem Eid zugesagt hat. Es ist ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt. ´Wenn ihr euch dort niedergelassen habt, dann` befolgt ´auch weiterhin` im Monat Abib diesen Brauch: 6 Esst sieben Tage lang Brot ohne Sauerteig und feiert am siebten Tag ein Fest zu Ehren des HERRN. 7 Während dieser ganzen Woche dürft ihr nur ungesäuertes Brot essen. Innerhalb eurer Landesgrenzen darf bei niemandem von euch Sauerteig zu finden sein! 8 Erklärt euren Kindern in dieser Woche^[4]: › ´Wir pflegen diesen Brauch` als Erinnerung an all das, was der HERR bei unserem Auszug aus Ägypten für uns getan hat.‹ 9 Dieser Brauch soll euch wie ein Zeichen an der Hand oder auf der Stirn immer ins Gedächtnis rufen, die Weisungen des HERRN zu beachten und weiterzugeben^[5]! Der HERR hat euch mit starker Hand aus Ägypten herausgeführt. 10 Darum sollt ihr Jahr für Jahr zur festgesetzten Zeit diese Ordnung einhalten.«

Bestimmungen für die Erstgeborenen

11 »Wenn der HERR euch nach Kanaan bringt und euch das Land zum Besitz gibt, wie er es euren Vorfahren versprochen hat, 12 dann sollt ihr dem HERRN alle Erstgeborenen^[6] weihen. Bei den Nutztieren gilt: Jedes männliche Erstgeborene müsst ihr für den HERRN als Opfer schlachten. 13 Nur bei den Eseln sollt ihr als Ersatz ein Lamm opfern.^[7] Wenn ihr dies nicht tun wollt, müsst ihr dem Fohlen das Genick brechen. ´Bei den Menschen gilt:` Alle erstgeborenen Söhne müsst ihr ´in jedem Fall durch ein anderes Opfer` auslösen. 14 Wenn eure Kinder euch in Zukunft fragen, was dieser Brauch bedeutet, dann antwortet ihnen: ›Der HERR hat uns mit starker Hand aus Ägypten herausgeführt, wo wir als Sklaven lebten^[8]. 15 Als der Pharao sich hartnäckig weigerte, uns gehen zu lassen, tötete der HERR in Ägypten alle ältesten Söhne und alle ´männlichen` erstgeborenen Tiere. Darum bringen wir dem HERRN alle männlichen erstgeborenen Tiere^[9] zum Opfer dar und lösen unsere ältesten Söhne ´durch ein anderes Opfer` aus.‹ 16 Dieser Brauch soll euch wie ein Zeichen an der Hand oder auf der Stirn immer ins Gedächtnis rufen, dass der HERR euch mit starker Hand aus Ägypten geführt hat.«

Gott führt sein Volk

17 Als der Pharao das ´israelitische` Volk ziehen ließ, führte Gott sie nicht über die Küstenstraße durch das Gebiet der Philister^[10], obwohl dies der kürzeste Weg gewesen wäre. Denn Gott sagte sich: »Wenn das Volk merkt, dass es kämpfen muss, bereut es vielleicht seinen Entschluss und kehrt wieder nach Ägypten zurück.« 18 Darum ließ Gott das Volk einen Umweg machen ´und führte sie` über die Wüstenstraße in Richtung Schilfmeer. Die Israeliten verließen das Land Ägypten ´wie ein Heer` in einem wohlgeordneten Zug. 19 Mose führte Josefs Gebeine mit, denn Josef hatte ´seinerzeit` seinen Brüdern das feierliche Versprechen abgenommen: »Schwört mir, dass ihr meine Gebeine mitnehmt, wenn Gott sich eurer annimmt ´und euch aus Ägypten herausführt`.« 20 Nachdem die Israeliten von Sukkot aufgebrochen waren, schlugen sie ihr Lager in Etam am Rand der Wüste auf. 21 ´Während der Wanderung` zog der HERR vor ihnen her. Tagsüber wies er ihnen den Weg in einer Wolkensäule, und nachts leuchtete er ihnen aus einer Feuersäule, damit sie Tag und Nacht unterwegs sein konnten. 22 Nie verließ die Wolken- und Feuersäule ihren Platz an der Spitze des Zuges, weder am Tag noch in der Nacht.

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine. 3 And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place : there shall no leavened bread be eaten. 4 This day came ye out in the month Abib. 5 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month. 6 Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD. 7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all thy quarters. 8 And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt. 9 And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the LORD' law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt. 10 Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to year. 11 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee, 12 That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD'. 13 And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem. 14 And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage: 15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem. 16 And it shall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt. 17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt: 18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt. 19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you. 20 And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. 21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.
