33 Peter replied, ‘All the others may turn away because of you. But I never will.’ 34 ‘What I’m about to tell you is true,’ Jesus answered. ‘It will happen tonight. Before the cockerel crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me.’ 35 But Peter said, ‘I may have to die with you. But I will never say I don’t know you.’ And all the other disciples said the same thing.

29 Peter said, ‘All the others may turn away. But I will not.’ 30 ‘What I’m about to tell you is true,’ Jesus answered. ‘It will happen today, in fact tonight. Before the cockerel crows twice, you yourself will say three times that you don’t know me.’ 31 But Peter would not give in. He said, ‘I may have to die with you. But I will never say I don’t know you.’ And all the others said the same thing.

31 ‘Simon, Simon! Satan has asked to sift all of you disciples like wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon. I have prayed that your faith will not fail. When you have turned back, help your brothers to be strong.’ 33 But Simon replied, ‘Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.’ 34 Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, Peter, you will say three times that you don’t know me. And you will do it before the cockerel crows today.’

36 Simon Peter asked him, ‘Lord, where are you going?’ Jesus replied, ‘Where I am going you can’t follow now. But you will follow me later.’ 37 ‘Lord’, Peter asked, ‘why can’t I follow you now? I will give my life for you.’ 38 Then Jesus answered, ‘Will you really give your life for me? What I’m about to tell you is true. Before the cockerel crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me!
