Mt 1,1 The Genealogy of Jesus Christ The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Mt 1,21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Mt 1,25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. Mt 2,1 The Visit of the Wise Men Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men* from the east came to Jerusalem, Mt 3,13 The Baptism of Jesus Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. Mt 3,15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. Mt 3,16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him,* and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; Mt 4,1 The Temptation of Jesus Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Mt 4,7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Mt 4,10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” Mt 4,17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”* Mt 7,28 The Authority of Jesus And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, Mt 8,3 And Jesus* stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Mt 8,4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” Mt 8,10 When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel* have I found such faith. Mt 8,13 And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. Mt 8,14 Jesus Heals Many And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. Mt 8,18 The Cost of Following Jesus Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. Mt 8,20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Mt 8,22 And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” Mt 8,34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. Mt 9,2 And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” Mt 9,4 But Jesus, knowing* their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? Mt 9,9 Jesus Calls Matthew As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. Mt 9,10 And as Jesus* reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. Mt 9,15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. Mt 9,19 And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. Mt 9,22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly* the woman was made well. Mt 9,23 And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, Mt 9,27 Jesus Heals Two Blind Men And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” Mt 9,28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Mt 9,30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” Mt 9,35 The Harvest Is Plentiful, the Laborers Few And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. Mt 10,5 Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, Mt 11,1 Messengers from John the Baptist When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities. Mt 11,4 And Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: Mt 11,7 As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? Mt 11,25 Come to Me, and I Will Give You Rest At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; Mt 12,1 Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. Mt 12,15 God’s Chosen Servant Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all Mt 13,1 The Parable of the Sower That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. Mt 13,34 Prophecy and Parables All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, he said nothing to them without a parable. Mt 13,53 Jesus Rejected at Nazareth And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, Mt 13,57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” Mt 14,1 The Death of John the Baptist At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus, Mt 14,12 And his disciples came and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus. Mt 14,13 Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. Mt 14,16 But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” Mt 14,27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” Mt 14,29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. Mt 14,31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” Mt 15,1 Traditions and Commandments Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, Mt 15,21 The Faith of a Canaanite Woman And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Mt 15,28 Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.* Mt 15,29 Jesus Heals Many Jesus went on from there and walked beside the Sea of Galilee. And he went up on the mountain and sat down there. Mt 15,32 Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” Mt 15,34 And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” Mt 16,6 Jesus said to them, “Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Mt 16,8 But Jesus, aware of this, said, “O you of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread? Mt 16,13 Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” Mt 16,17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. Mt 16,21 Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. Mt 16,24 Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Mt 17,1 The Transfiguration And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. Mt 17,4 And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” Mt 17,7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” Mt 17,8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. Mt 17,9 And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” Mt 17,17 And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” Mt 17,18 And Jesus rebuked the demon,* and it* came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly.* Mt 17,19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” Mt 17,22 Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection As they were gathering* in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, Mt 17,25 He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?” Mt 17,26 And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. Mt 18,1 Who Is the Greatest? At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Mt 18,22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.* Mt 19,1 Teaching About Divorce Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. Mt 19,14 but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Mt 19,18 He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Mt 19,21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Mt 19,23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. Mt 19,26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Mt 19,28 Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world,* when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Mt 20,17 Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, Mt 20,22 Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” Mt 20,25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Mt 20,30 And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord,* have mercy on us, Son of David!” Mt 20,32 And stopping, Jesus called them and said, “What do you want me to do for you?” Mt 20,34 And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him. Mt 21,1 The Triumphal Entry Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, Mt 21,6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. Mt 21,11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.” Mt 21,12 Jesus Cleanses the Temple And Jesus entered the temple* and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. Mt 21,16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, “‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?” Mt 21,21 And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. Mt 21,24 Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you one question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. Mt 21,27 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. Mt 21,31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.
