1Es wird aber geschehen, wenn alle diese Worte über dich kommen werden, der Segen und der Fluch, die ich dir vorgelegt habe, und du es dir zu Herzen nimmst unter all den Heidenvölkern, unter die dich der HERR, dein Gott, verstoßen hat,2und wenn du umkehrst zu dem HERRN, deinem Gott, und seiner Stimme gehorchst in allem, was ich dir heute gebiete, du und deine Kinder, von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele,3so wird der HERR, dein Gott, dein Geschick wenden und sich über dich erbarmen und wird dich wieder sammeln aus allen Völkern, wohin dich der HERR, dein Gott, zerstreut hat.4Und wenn du auch bis an das Ende des Himmels verstoßen wärst, so wird dich doch der HERR, dein Gott, von dort sammeln und dich von dort holen.5Und der HERR, dein Gott, wird dich in das Land zurückbringen, das deine Väter besessen haben, und du wirst es in Besitz nehmen, und er wird dir Gutes tun und dich mehren, mehr als deine Väter.6Und der HERR, dein Gott, wird dein Herz und das Herz deiner Nachkommen beschneiden, dass du den HERRN, deinen Gott, liebst von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele, damit du lebst.7Aber alle diese Flüche wird der HERR, dein Gott, auf deine Feinde legen und auf die, welche dich hassen und dich verfolgt haben.8Du aber wirst umkehren und der Stimme des HERRN gehorchen und alle seine Gebote befolgen, die ich dir heute gebiete.9Und der HERR, dein Gott, wird dir Überfluss geben in allem Werk deiner Hände, an der Frucht deines Leibes, an der Frucht deines Viehs, an der Frucht deines Landes zu deinem Besten; denn der HERR wird sich wiederum über dich freuen, zu deinem Besten, wie er sich über deine Väter gefreut hat,10wenn du der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, gehorchst und seine Gebote und seine Satzungen befolgst, die in diesem Buch des Gesetzes geschrieben stehen; wenn du zu dem HERRN, deinem Gott, umkehrst von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele.11Denn dieses Gebot, das ich dir heute gebiete, ist nicht zu wunderbar für dich und nicht zu fern.12Es ist nicht im Himmel, dass du sagen müsstest: »Wer will für uns zum Himmel fahren und es uns holen und es uns hören lassen, dass wir es tun?«13Es ist auch nicht jenseits des Meeres, dass du sagen müsstest: »Wer will für uns über das Meer fahren und es uns holen und es uns hören lassen, dass wir es tun?«14Sondern das Wort ist sehr nahe bei dir, in deinem Mund und in deinem Herzen, sodass du es tun kannst.

15Siehe, ich habe dir heute das Leben und das Gute vorgelegt, den Tod und das Böse.16Was ich dir heute gebiete, ist, dass du den HERRN, deinen Gott, liebst und in seinen Wegen wandelst und seine Gebote, seine Satzungen und seine Rechtsbestimmungen hältst, damit du lebst und dich mehrst; und der HERR, dein Gott, wird dich segnen in dem Land, in das du ziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.17Wenn sich aber dein Herz abwendet und du nicht gehorchst, sondern dich verführen lässt, andere Götter anzubeten und ihnen zu dienen,18so verkünde ich euch heute, dass ihr gewiss umkommen und nicht lange leben werdet in dem Land, in das du über den Jordan ziehst, damit du dorthin kommst [und] es in Besitz nimmst.19Ich nehme heute Himmel und Erde gegen euch zu Zeugen: Ich habe euch Leben und Tod, Segen und Fluch vorgelegt; so erwähle nun das Leben, damit du lebst, du und dein Same,20indem du den HERRN, deinen Gott, liebst, seiner Stimme gehorchst und ihm anhängst; denn das ist dein Leben und bedeutet Verlängerung deiner Tage, die du zubringen darfst in dem Land, das der HERR deinen Vätern, Abraham, Isaak und Jakob, zu geben geschworen hat.
