1Und Gott sprach zu Jakob: Mache dich auf, zieh hinauf nach Bethel und wohne dort und baue dort einen Altar für den Gott, der dir erschienen ist, als du vor deinem Bruder Esau geflohen bist!2Da sprach Jakob zu seinem Haus und zu allen, die bei ihm waren: Tut die fremden Götter von euch weg, die in eurer Mitte sind, und reinigt euch und wechselt eure Kleider!3So wollen wir uns aufmachen und nach Bethel hinaufziehen, dass ich dort einen Altar errichte für den Gott, der mir geantwortet hat zur Zeit meiner Not und der mit mir gewesen ist auf dem Weg, den ich gezogen bin!4Da lieferten sie Jakob alle fremden Götter aus, die in ihren Händen waren, samt den Ringen, die sie an ihren Ohren trugen, und Jakob verbarg sie unter der Terebinthe, die bei Sichem steht.5Danach brachen sie auf; und der Schrecken Gottes fiel auf die umliegenden Städte, sodass sie die Söhne Jakobs nicht verfolgten.6Als nun Jakob, er und das ganze Volk, das bei ihm war, nach Lus kamen — das ist Bethel —, das im Land Kanaan liegt,7da baute er dort einen Altar und nannte den Ort »El-Bethel«, weil sich Gott ihm dort geoffenbart hatte, als er vor seinem Bruder floh.8Da starb Debora, die Amme der Rebekka, und wurde unterhalb von Bethel begraben, unter der Eiche, die man Klageeiche nennt.9Und Gott erschien Jakob zum zweiten Mal, seitdem er aus Paddan-Aram gekommen war, und segnete ihn.10Und Gott sprach zu ihm: Dein Name ist Jakob, aber du sollst nicht mehr Jakob heißen, sondern Israel soll dein Name sein! 16Danach brachen sie von Bethel auf; und als sie nur noch ein Stück Weg bis Ephrata zu gehen hatten, da gebar Rahel; und sie hatte eine schwere Geburt.17Als ihr aber die Geburt so schwer wurde, sprach die Hebamme zu ihr: Fürchte dich nicht; du hast auch diesmal einen Sohn!18Und es geschah, als ihr die Seele entschwand, weil sie am Sterben war, da gab sie ihm den Namen Benoni; sein Vater aber nannte ihn Benjamin.19Und Rahel starb und wurde begraben am Weg nach Ephrata, das ist Bethlehem.20Und Jakob stellte einen Gedenkstein auf über ihrem Grab; das ist Rahels Grabmal geblieben bis zu diesem Tag.

21Und Israel zog weiter und schlug sein Zelt jenseits des Herdenturmes auf.22Und es geschah, als Israel in dem Land wohnte, da ging Ruben hin und lag bei Bilha, der Nebenfrau seines Vaters; und Israel erfuhr es.23Jakob aber hatte zwölf Söhne. Die Söhne Leas waren diese: Ruben, der erstgeborene Sohn Jakobs, und Simeon und Levi und Juda und Issaschar und Sebulon;24die Söhne Rahels waren Joseph und Benjamin;25die Söhne Bilhas, der Magd Rahels: Dan und Naphtali;26die Söhne Silpas, der Magd Leas: Gad und Asser. Das sind die Söhne Jakobs, die ihm in Paddan-Aram geboren wurden.27Und Jakob kam zu seinem Vater Isaak nach Mamre, bei Kirjat-Arba, das ist Hebron, wo Abraham und Isaak als Fremdlinge geweilt hatten.28Und Isaak wurde 180 Jahre alt.29Und Isaak verschied und starb und wurde zu seinem Volk versammelt, alt und lebenssatt; und seine Söhne Esau und Jakob begruben ihn.

1And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.2Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:3And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.4And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.5And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.6So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is , Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.7And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.8But Deborah Rebekah' nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.9And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.10And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.11And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;12And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.13And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.14And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.15And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.16And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.17And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.18And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.19And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.20And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel' grave unto this day.21And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.22And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father' concubine: and Israel heard it .
