1Und es geschah im siebten Jahr, am zehnten Tag des fünften Monats, dass etliche von den Ältesten Israels zu mir kamen, um den HERRN zu befragen; und sie setzten sich vor mir nieder.2Da erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:3Menschensohn, rede zu den Ältesten Israels und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Um mich zu befragen, seid ihr gekommen? So wahr ich lebe, spricht GOTT, der Herr, ich will mich von euch nicht befragen lassen!4Willst du sie richten? Willst du sie richten, Menschensohn? Halte ihnen die Gräuel ihrer Väter vor!5Und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: An dem Tag, als ich Israel erwählte und dem Samen des Hauses Jakob schwor und mich ihnen zu erkennen gab im Land Ägypten; ja, als ich ihnen schwor und sprach: Ich, der HERR, bin euer Gott!6— eben an jenem Tag, als ich ihnen schwor, sie aus dem Land Ägypten hinauszuführen in ein Land, das ich für sie ausersehen hatte, in dem Milch und Honig fließt und das eine Zierde vor allen Ländern ist,7da sprach ich zu ihnen: »Jeder werfe die Gräuel weg, die er vor seinen Augen hat; und verunreinigt euch nicht an den Götzen Ägyptens! Ich, der HERR, bin euer Gott.«8Sie aber waren widerspenstig gegen mich und wollten nicht auf mich hören; keiner von ihnen warf die Gräuel, die er vor seinen Augen hatte, weg, und die Götzen Ägyptens gaben sie nicht auf. Da nahm ich mir vor, meinen Grimm über sie auszuschütten und meinen Zorn an ihnen zu vollstrecken mitten im Land Ägypten.9Aber ich handelte um meines Namens willen, damit er nicht entheiligt würde in den Augen der Heidenvölker, unter denen sie wohnten und vor deren Augen ich mich ihnen zu erkennen gegeben hatte, um sie aus dem Land Ägypten zu führen.10So führte ich sie denn aus dem Land Ägypten heraus und brachte sie in die Wüste,11und ich gab ihnen meine Satzungen und verkündete ihnen meine Rechtsbestimmungen, durch die der Mensch lebt, wenn er sie tut.12Ich gab ihnen auch meine Sabbate, die ein Zeichen sein sollten zwischen mir und ihnen, damit sie erkennen sollten, dass ich, der HERR, es bin, der sie heiligt.13Aber das Haus Israel war widerspenstig gegen mich in der Wüste; sie wandelten nicht in meinen Satzungen, sondern verwarfen meine Rechtsbestimmungen, durch die der Mensch lebt, wenn er sie tut, und meine Sabbate entheiligten sie sehr. Da nahm ich mir vor, meinen Grimm über sie auszuschütten in der Wüste und sie aufzureiben.14Aber ich handelte um meines Namens willen, damit er nicht entheiligt würde in den Augen der Heidenvölker, vor deren Augen ich sie herausgeführt hatte.15Doch schwor ich ihnen auch in der Wüste, dass ich sie nicht in das Land bringen wolle, das ich ihnen bestimmt hatte, in dem Milch und Honig fließt und das eine Zierde vor allen Ländern ist,16weil sie meine Rechtsbestimmungen verworfen und nicht nach meinen Satzungen gelebt hatten, auch meine Sabbate entheiligt hatten, weil ihr Herz nur ihren Götzen nachging.17Dennoch verschonte sie mein Auge, sodass ich sie nicht verdarb und nicht gänzlich aufrieb in der Wüste.18Da sagte ich in der Wüste zu ihren Söhnen: Wandelt nicht in den Satzungen eurer Väter und befolgt ihre Sitten nicht und verunreinigt euch nicht mit ihren Götzen!19Ich, der HERR, bin euer Gott; wandelt in meinen Satzungen und befolgt meine Rechtsbestimmungen und tut sie;20und heiligt meine Sabbate, damit sie ein Zeichen sind zwischen mir und euch, damit ihr erkennt, dass ich, der HERR, euer Gott bin!21Aber [auch] die Söhne waren widerspenstig gegen mich, sie wandelten nicht in meinen Satzungen und befolgten meine Rechtsbestimmungen nicht, dass sie nach ihnen gehandelt hätten — obgleich der Mensch, wenn er sie tut, dadurch lebt; und sie entheiligten meine Sabbate. Da nahm ich mir vor, meinen Grimm über sie auszuschütten und meinen Zorn an ihnen zu vollstrecken in der Wüste.22Aber ich zog meine Hand zurück und handelte um meines Namens willen, damit er in den Augen der Heidenvölker, vor deren Augen ich sie ausgeführt hatte, nicht entheiligt würde.23Doch schwor ich ihnen in der Wüste, dass ich sie unter die Heidenvölker zerstreuen und in die Länder versprengen würde,24weil sie meine Rechtsordnungen nicht befolgt und meine Satzungen verworfen hatten und meine Sabbate entheiligt und ihre Augen nach den Götzen ihrer Väter gerichtet hatten.25So habe auch ich ihnen Gesetze gegeben, die nicht gut waren, und Rechtsbestimmungen, durch die sie nicht leben konnten,26und ich ließ sie unrein werden durch ihre Opfergaben, indem sie alle ihre Erstgeburt durchs Feuer gehen ließen, damit ich sie verwüstete, damit sie erkennen sollten, dass ich der HERR bin.27Darum, o Menschensohn, rede zu dem Haus Israel und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Auch dadurch haben mich eure Väter gelästert, dass sie treulos an mir handelten:28Denn als ich sie in das Land gebracht hatte, betreffs dessen ich geschworen hatte, dass ich es ihnen geben wolle, da ersahen sie jeden hohen Hügel und jeden dicht belaubten Baum und schlachteten dort ihre Opfer und brachten dort ihre Gaben dar, um mich zu ärgern, und legten dort ihr lieblich duftendes Räucherwerk nieder und gossen dort ihre Trankopfer aus.29Da fragte ich sie: Was soll diese Höhe, wohin ihr geht? Daher nennt man sie »Höhe« bis zu diesem Tag.
Der Herr tadelt die jetzige Generation der Israeliten
30Darum sprich zum Haus Israel: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Verunreinigt ihr euch nicht nach der Weise eurer Väter und hurt ihren Götzen nach?31Ja, durch die Darbringung eurer Gaben, dadurch, dass ihr eure Kinder durchs Feuer gehen lasst, verunreinigt ihr euch an allen euren Götzen bis zu diesem Tag; und ich sollte mich von euch befragen lassen, ihr vom Haus Israel? So wahr ich lebe, spricht GOTT, der Herr, ich will mich von euch nicht befragen lassen!32Und was euch in den Sinn gekommen ist, dass ihr sagt: »Wir wollen sein wie die Heidenvölker, wie die Geschlechter der Länder, indem wir Holz und Stein dienen«, das soll nicht geschehen!33So wahr ich lebe, spricht GOTT, der Herr, ich will selbst mit starker Hand, mit ausgestrecktem Arm und mit ausgeschüttetem Grimm über euch herrschen;34und ich will euch aus den Völkern herausführen und euch aus den Ländern sammeln, in die ihr zerstreut worden seid, mit starker Hand, mit ausgestrecktem Arm und mit ausgeschüttetem Grimm;35und ich will euch in die Wüste der Völker führen und dort mit euch ins Gericht gehen von Angesicht zu Angesicht.36Wie ich in der Wüste des Landes Ägypten mit euren Vätern ins Gericht gegangen bin, so will ich auch mit euch ins Gericht gehen, spricht GOTT, der Herr.37Ich will euch unter dem Stab hindurchgehen lassen* und euch in die Bundesverpflichtungen einführen.38Und ich will die Widerspenstigen und die von mir Abgefallenen von euch absondern; ich will sie aus dem Land ihrer Fremdlingschaft herausführen, aber in das Land Israel soll keiner von ihnen kommen; und ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.
Die Wiederherstellung Israels wird verheißen
39So geht nur, spricht GOTT, der Herr, ihr vom Haus Israel, und dient nur jeder seinen Götzen! Aber danach werdet ihr gewiss auf mich hören und meinen heiligen Namen künftig nicht mehr mit euren Gaben und mit euren Götzen entheiligen.40Denn auf meinem heiligen Berg, auf dem erhabenen Berg Israels, spricht GOTT, der Herr, dort wird mir das ganze Haus Israel dienen, sie alle, [die] im Land [sind]; dort will ich sie gnädig annehmen; und dort will ich eure Hebopfer fordern und eure Erstlingsgaben und alles, was ihr heiligt.41Als einen lieblichen Geruch will ich euch gnädig annehmen, wenn ich euch aus den Völkern herausführe und euch sammle aus den Ländern, in die ihr zerstreut worden seid, damit ich an euch geheiligt werde vor den Augen der Heidenvölker.42Und ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, wenn ich euch in das Land Israel führe, in das Land, von dem ich geschworen hatte, dass ich es euren Vätern geben werde.43Dort werdet ihr an eure Wege gedenken und an alle eure Taten, mit denen ihr euch verunreinigt habt; und ihr werdet Abscheu über euch selbst empfinden wegen aller eurer bösen Taten, die ihr begangen habt.44Und ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, wenn ich mit euch handeln werde um meines Namens willen und nicht nach eurem bösen Wandel und euren ruchlosen Taten, Haus Israel!, spricht GOTT, der Herr.

Israel’s Continuing Rebellion
1In the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, and sat before me.2And the word of the Lord came to me:3“Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God, Is it to inquire of me that you come? As I live, declares the Lord God, I will not be inquired of by you.4Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Let them know the abominations of their fathers,5and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: On the day when I chose Israel, I swore* to the offspring of the house of Jacob, making myself known to them in the land of Egypt; I swore to them, saying, I am the Lord your God.6On that day I swore to them that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands.7And I said to them, ‘Cast away the detestable things your eyes feast on, every one of you, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.’8But they rebelled against me and were not willing to listen to me. None of them cast away the detestable things their eyes feasted on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. “Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.9But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt.10So I led them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.11I gave them my statutes and made known to them my rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live.12Moreover, I gave them my Sabbaths, as a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.13But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes but rejected my rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live; and my Sabbaths they greatly profaned. “Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to make a full end of them.14But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.15Moreover, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land that I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands,16because they rejected my rules and did not walk in my statutes, and profaned my Sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols.17Nevertheless, my eye spared them, and I did not destroy them or make a full end of them in the wilderness.18“And I said to their children in the wilderness, ‘Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, nor keep their rules, nor defile yourselves with their idols.19I am the Lord your God; walk in my statutes, and be careful to obey my rules,20and keep my Sabbaths holy that they may be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.’21But the children rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes and were not careful to obey my rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live; they profaned my Sabbaths. “Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the wilderness.22But I withheld my hand and acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.23Moreover, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries,24because they had not obeyed my rules, but had rejected my statutes and profaned my Sabbaths, and their eyes were set on their fathers’ idols.25Moreover, I gave them statutes that were not good and rules by which they could not have life,26and I defiled them through their very gifts in their offering up all their firstborn, that I might devastate them. I did it that they might know that I am the Lord.27“Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: In this also your fathers blasphemed me, by dealing treacherously with me.28For when I had brought them into the land that I swore to give them, then wherever they saw any high hill or any leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering; there they sent up their pleasing aromas, and there they poured out their drink offerings.29(I said to them, ‘What is the high place to which you go?’ So its name is called Bamah* to this day.)30“Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Will you defile yourselves after the manner of your fathers and go whoring after their detestable things?31When you present your gifts and offer up your children in fire,* you defile yourselves with all your idols to this day. And shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, declares the Lord God, I will not be inquired of by you.32“What is in your mind shall never happen—the thought, ‘Let us be like the nations, like the tribes of the countries, and worship wood and stone.’
The Lord Will Restore Israel
33“As I live, declares the Lord God, surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out I will be king over you.34I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out.35And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face.36As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, declares the Lord God.37I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant.38I will purge out the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against me. I will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.39“As for you, O house of Israel, thus says the Lord God: Go serve every one of you his idols, now and hereafter, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name you shall no more profane with your gifts and your idols.40“For on my holy mountain, the mountain height of Israel, declares the Lord God, there all the house of Israel, all of them, shall serve me in the land. There I will accept them, and there I will require your contributions and the choicest of your gifts, with all your sacred offerings.41As a pleasing aroma I will accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered. And I will manifest my holiness among you in the sight of the nations.42And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the country that I swore to give to your fathers.43And there you shall remember your ways and all your deeds with which you have defiled yourselves, and you shall loathe yourselves for all the evils that you have committed.44And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for my name’s sake, not according to your evil ways, nor according to your corrupt deeds, O house of Israel, declares the Lord God.”45* And the word of the Lord came to me:46“Son of man, set your face toward the southland;* preach against the south, and prophesy against the forest land in the Negeb.47Say to the forest of the Negeb, Hear the word of the Lord: Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every green tree in you and every dry tree. The blazing flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from south to north shall be scorched by it.48All flesh shall see that I the Lord have kindled it; it shall not be quenched.”49Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! They are saying of me, ‘Is he not a maker of parables?’”
