König Ahasja von Juda

1 Und die Einwohner von Jerusalem machten Ahasja, seinen jüngsten Sohn, zum König an seiner Stelle; denn die Truppe, die mit den Arabern in das Lager gekommen war, hatte alle älteren getötet. So wurde Ahasja König, der Sohn Jorams, des Königs von Juda. 2 Es war nach 42 Jahren, dass Ahasja König wurde, und er regierte ein Jahr lang in Jerusalem; und der Name seiner Mutter war Athalja, eine Tochter Omris. 3 Und auch er wandelte in den Wegen des Hauses Ahabs, denn seine Mutter beriet ihn so, dass er gottlos handelte. 4 Und so tat er, was böse war in den Augen des HERRN, wie das Haus Ahabs; denn nach dem Tod seines Vaters waren sie seine Ratgeber, zu seinem Verderben. 5 Er wandelte auch nach ihrem Rat und zog mit Joram, dem Sohn Ahabs, dem König von Israel, in den Krieg gegen Hasael, den König von Aram, nach Ramot in Gilead. Aber die Aramäer verwundeten Joram. 6 Da kehrte er um, um sich in Jesreel heilen zu lassen; denn er hatte Wunden, die ihm in Rama geschlagen worden waren, als er mit Hasael, dem König von Aram, kämpfte. Und Asarja, der Sohn Jorams, der König von Juda, zog hinab, um Joram, den Sohn Ahabs, in Jesreel zu besuchen, weil er krank lag. 7 Und das war von Gott zum Untergang Ahasjas [so gefügt], dass er zu Joram ging; denn als er kam, zog er mit Joram aus gegen Jehu, den Sohn Nimsis, den der HERR gesalbt hatte, um das Haus Ahabs auszurotten. 8 Und es geschah, als Jehu am Haus Ahabs Gericht übte, da traf er die Fürsten Judas und die Söhne der Brüder Ahasjas, die Ahasja dienten, und brachte sie um. 9 Er suchte auch Ahasja; und man fing ihn in Samaria, wo er sich verborgen hatte, und brachte ihn zu Jehu; der tötete ihn. Und man begrub ihn, denn sie sprachen: Er ist der Sohn von Josaphat, der von ganzem Herzen den HERRN gesucht hat! Und es war niemand mehr aus dem Haus Ahasjas, der stark genug gewesen wäre zum Regieren.

Die blutige Herrschaft Athaljas über Juda

10 Als aber Athalja, die Mutter Ahasjas, sah, dass ihr Sohn tot war, da machte sie sich auf und brachte alle königlichen Nachkommen des Hauses Juda um. 11 Aber Joschabat, die Tochter des Königs, nahm Joas, den Sohn Ahasjas, und schaffte ihn heimlich weg aus der Mitte der Königssöhne, die getötet wurden, und brachte ihn samt seiner Amme in eine Schlafkammer. So verbarg ihn Joschabat, die Tochter des Königs Joram, die Frau des Priesters Jojada (denn sie war Ahasjas Schwester), vor Athalja, sodass er nicht getötet wurde. 12 Und er war sechs Jahre lang bei ihnen im Haus Gottes verborgen. Athalja aber herrschte über das Land.

Ahaziah Reigns in Judah

1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place, for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned. 2 Ahaziah was twenty-two* years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah, the granddaughter of Omri. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor in doing wickedly. 4 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done. For after the death of his father they were his counselors, to his undoing. 5 He even followed their counsel and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to make war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead. And the Syrians wounded Joram, 6 and he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds that he had received at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was wounded. 7 But it was ordained by* God that the downfall of Ahaziah should come about through his going to visit Joram. For when he came there, he went out with Jehoram to meet Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab. 8 And when Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, he met the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers, who attended Ahaziah, and he killed them. 9 He searched for Ahaziah, and he was captured while hiding in Samaria, and he was brought to Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart.” And the house of Ahaziah had no one able to rule the kingdom.

Athaliah Reigns in Judah

10 Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family of the house of Judah. 11 But Jehoshabeath,* the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were about to be put to death, and she put him and his nurse in a bedroom. Thus Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and wife of Jehoiada the priest, because she was a sister of Ahaziah, hid him* from Athaliah, so that she did not put him to death. 12 And he remained with them six years, hidden in the house of God, while Athaliah reigned over the land.
