Récompense et certitude du juste

1 Hymne de David. Garde-moi, ô Dieu, car je cherche refuge en toi*!

2 Je dis à l'Eternel: «Tu es mon Seigneur, tu es mon bien suprême.»

3 Les saints qui sont dans le pays, les hommes pieux, sont l'objet de toute mon affection.

4 On multiplie les idoles, on court après les dieux étrangers, mais moi, je ne verse pas d'offrandes de sang en leur honneur, je ne mets pas leur nom sur mes lèvres.

5 Eternel, c'est toi qui es ma part et la coupe où je bois, c'est toi qui m'assures mon lot.

6 Un héritage délicieux m'est attribué, une belle possession m'est accordée.

7 Je bénis l'Eternel, car il me conseille; même la nuit mon cœur m'instruit.

8 J'ai constamment l'Eternel devant moi; quand il est à ma droite, je ne suis pas ébranlé.

9 C'est pourquoi mon cœur est dans la joie, et mon esprit dans l'allégresse. Même mon corps reposera en sécurité,

10 car tu n'abandonneras pas mon âme au séjour des morts, tu ne permettras pas que ton bien-aimé connaisse la décomposition*.

11 Tu me fais connaître le sentier de la vie; il y a d'abondantes joies dans ta présence*, un bonheur éternel à ta droite.

1 Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.*

2 I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.’

3 I say of the holy people who are in the land, ‘They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.’

4 Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips.

5 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.

6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.

7 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.

8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure,

10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful* one see decay.

11 You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
