Liste des rois vaincus

1 Voici les rois que les Israélites battirent et dont ils possédèrent le pays de l'autre côté du Jourdain, du côté du soleil levant, depuis le torrent de l'Arnon jusqu'au mont Hermon, avec toute la plaine située à l'est.

2 Il y avait Sihon, le roi des Amoréens, qui habitait à Hesbon. Il dominait sur la moitié de Galaad, depuis Aroër, qui se trouve au bord du torrent de l'Arnon, au milieu de la vallée, jusqu'au torrent du Jabbok, qui marquait la frontière avec les Ammonites;

3 sur la plaine qui va jusqu'au lac de Génésareth à l'est et jusqu'à la mer de la plaine, la mer Morte, à l'est vers Beth-Jeshimoth; et, du côté du sud, sur le pied du Pisga.

4 Il y avait aussi Og, le roi du Basan, l'un des derniers Rephaïm, qui habitait à Ashtaroth et à Edréï.

5 Il dominait sur le mont Hermon, sur Salca, sur tout le Basan jusqu'à la frontière des Gueshuriens et des Maacathiens et sur la moitié de Galaad jusqu'à la frontière de Sihon, roi de Hesbon.

6 Moïse, le serviteur de l'Eternel, et les Israélites les battirent. Puis Moïse, serviteur de l'Eternel, donna leur pays en possession aux Rubénites, aux Gadites et à la moitié de la tribu de Manassé.

7 Voici les rois que Josué et les Israélites battirent de ce côté-ci du Jourdain, à l'ouest, depuis Baal-Gad dans la vallée du Liban jusqu'à la montagne pelée qui s'élève vers Séir. Josué donna leur pays en possession aux tribus d'Israël, à chacune sa portion,

8 dans la montagne, dans la vallée, dans la plaine, sur les coteaux, dans le désert et dans le sud. C'était le pays des Hittites, des Amoréens, des Cananéens, des Phéréziens, des Héviens et des Jébusiens.

9 Il y avait le roi de Jéricho, le roi d'Aï, près de Béthel,

10 le roi de Jérusalem, le roi d'Hébron,

11 le roi de Jarmuth, le roi de Lakis,

12 le roi d'Eglon, le roi de Guézer,

13 le roi de Debir, le roi de Guéder,

14 le roi de Horma, le roi d'Arad,

15 le roi de Libna, le roi d'Adullam,

16 le roi de Makkéda, le roi de Béthel,

17 le roi de Tappuach, le roi de Hépher,

18 le roi d'Aphek, le roi de Lasharon,

19 le roi de Madon, le roi de Hatsor,

20 le roi de Shimron-Meron, le roi d'Acshaph,

21 le roi de Thaanac, le roi de Meguiddo,

22 le roi de Kédesh, le roi de Jokneam, au Carmel,

23 le roi de Dor, sur les hauteurs de Dor, le roi de Gojim, près de Guilgal,

24 le roi de Thirtsa. Nombre total de ces rois: 31.

List of defeated kings

1 These are the kings of the land whom the Israelites had defeated and whose territory they took over east of the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge to Mount Hermon, including all the eastern side of the Arabah:

2 Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon. He ruled from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge – from the middle of the gorge – to the River Jabbok, which is the border of the Ammonites. This included half of Gilead.

3 He also ruled over the eastern Arabah from the Sea of Galilee* to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea), to Beth Jeshimoth, and then southward below the slopes of Pisgah.

4 And the territory of Og king of Bashan, one of the last of the Rephaites, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei.

5 He ruled over Mount Hermon, Salekah, all of Bashan to the border of the people of Geshur and Maakah, and half of Gilead to the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.

6 Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the Israelites conquered them. And Moses the servant of the Lord gave their land to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh to be their possession.

7 Here is a list of the kings of the land that Joshua and the Israelites conquered on the west side of the Jordan, from Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, which rises towards Seir. Joshua gave their lands as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel according to their tribal divisions.

8 The lands included the hill country, the western foothills, the Arabah, the mountain slopes, the wilderness and the Negev. These were the lands of the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. These were the kings: the king of Jericho one, the king of Ai (near Bethel) one, the king of Jerusalem one, the king of Hebron one, the king of Jarmuth one, the king of Lachish one, the king of Eglon one, the king of Gezer one, the king of Debir one, the king of Geder one, the king of Hormah one, the king of Arad one, the king of Libnah one, the king of Adullam one, the king of Makkedah one, the king of Bethel one, the king of Tappuah one, the king of Hepher one, the king of Aphek one, the king of Lasharon one, the king of Madon one, the king of Hazor one, the king of Shimron Meron one, the king of Akshaph one, the king of Taanach one, the king of Megiddo one, the king of Kedesh one, the king of Jokneam in Carmel one, the king of Dor (in Naphoth Dor) one, the king of Goyim in Gilgal one, the king of Tirzah one, thirty-one kings in all.,
