È risorto!

1 La mattina dopo, allʼalba, Maria Maddalena e lʼaltra Maria, andarono a visitare la tomba di Gesù. 2 Improvvisamente ci fu un gran terremoto, perché un angelo del Signore, sceso dal cielo, aveva fatto rotolare da una parte la pietra e vi si era seduto sopra. 3 Il suo viso splendeva come un lampo e i suoi vestiti erano bianchi come la neve. 4 Quando lo videro, le guardie cominciarono a tremare di paura e caddero a terra svenute. 5 Allora lʼangelo disse alle donne: «Non abbiate paura! So che cercate Gesù, che è stato crocifisso. 6 Ma non è più qui, perché è risorto, proprio come vi aveva detto. Venite a vedere dove giaceva il suo corpo… 7 Ed ora, presto! Andate a dire ai suoi discepoli che il Signore è risuscitato dalla morte e che li aspetta in Galilea! Ecco, questo è ciò che vi dovevo dire». 8 Le donne sʼallontanarono di corsa dalla tomba, spaventate a morte, è vero, ma piene di gioia. Si precipitarono a cercare i discepoli per riferire le parole dellʼangelo. 9 Mentre stavano correndo, improvvisamente Gesù apparve davanti a loro e disse: «Buongiorno!» Le donne caddero in terra davanti a lui, gli abbracciarono le gambe e lo adorarono. 10 Allora Gesù disse loro: «Non abbiate paura! Andate a dire ai miei fratelli di partire immediatamente per la Galilea, sarà là che mʼincontreranno». 11 Mentre le donne sʼincamminavano verso la città, alcune guardie del tempio, che avevano sorvegliato la tomba, si precipitarono dai sacerdoti a raccontare loro ciò che era accaduto. 12 Tutti i capi giudei si riunirono e decisero di corrompere le guardie, perché dicessero che durante la notte, mentre dormivano, i discepoli erano venuti a rubare il corpo di Gesù. 14 «Se la notizia arriva allʼorecchio del governatore», promisero i capi giudei alle guardie, «noi prendiamo le vostre difese e tutto andrà per il meglio!» 15 Le guardie si lasciarono corrompere e fecero come era stato loro detto. La loro versione dei fatti si sparse fra gli Ebrei, che ancora oggi la ritengono valida. 16 Gli undici discepoli, andarono in Galilea e salirono sulla montagna che Gesù aveva loro indicato. 17 Là lo incontrarono e lo adorarono, ma alcuni di loro non erano del tutto convinti che quello fosse davvero Gesù. 18 Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: «Mi è stato dato ogni potere sia in cielo che in terra. 19 Perciò andate ad ammaestrare tutti i popoli e battezzate chi crede in me nel nome del Padre, del Figlio e dello Spirito Santo. 20 A questi nuovi discepoli insegnate ad ubbidire a tutti i comandamenti che vi ho dato; e siate certi di questo: Io sarò sempre con voi, fino alla fine del mondo».

The Resurrection

1 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he* lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” 8 So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

The Report of the Guard

11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

The Great Commission

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in* the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
