1 Io Paolo, servo di Cristo, sono qui in prigione per voi, per aver predicato che voi pagani fate parte della famiglia di Dio. 2 Senza dubbio già sapete che Dio mi ha affidato questo speciale incarico di parlarvi del Vangelo. Come vi ho già accennato brevemente in precedenza, Dio stesso mi ha rivelato questo suo piano segreto, e cioè che anche i pagani erano inclusi nella sua grazia. 4 Vi dico queste cose, perché sappiate fino a che punto sono al corrente del mistero che riguarda Gesù Cristo. 5 In passato Dio non rivelò mai a nessuno il suo piano così chiaramente come lo ha rivelato ai giorni nostri, per mezzo dello Spirito Santo, agli apostoli e ai profeti. 6 E questo è il segreto: i pagani erediteranno insieme con i Giudei tutte le benedizioni di Dio. Tutti, sia Giudei che pagani, sono invitati ad appartenere alla sua Chiesa, e tutte le promesse di Dio, che si avverano in Gesù Cristo, valgono sia per i Giudei che per i pagani, quando accettano il suo Vangelo, di cui io sono diventato ministro. 7 Per grazia di Dio, e per la sua potenza, mi è stato donato il meraviglioso privilegio di parlare a tutti di questo piano. 8 A me, proprio a me che sono lʼultimo di tutti i cristiani, Dio ha dato questa grazia: di portare ai pagani la buona notizia degli infiniti tesori che possono trovare in Cristo; 9 e di spiegare a tutti che Dio è anche il loro Salvatore, proprio come, fin dai tempi dei tempi, aveva programmato con amore e in segreto, lui, il Creatore di tutte le cose. 10 E per quale ragione? Per dimostrare, per mezzo della sua Chiesa composta da Ebrei e pagani, a tutte le potenze del cielo gli infiniti aspetti della sua sapienza. 11 Fin dai tempi dei tempi questo era lo scopo di Dio, che egli ha raggiunto per mezzo del nostro Signore Gesù Cristo. 12 Uniti a Cristo, ora possiamo presentarci a Dio senza paura, sicuri di essere ben accolti, perché abbiamo fede in lui. 13 Perciò, vi prego, non lasciatevi scoraggiare a causa delle sofferenze che devo patire adesso per voi, anzi, dovete esserne orgogliosi! 14 Quando penso alla saggezza di Dio e allo scopo del suo piano, cado in ginocchio davanti al Padre, a lui che è Padre di ogni famiglia, sia in cielo che in terra. 16 Lo prego che, per mezzo della sua immensa e gloriosa potenza, vi dia la straordinaria forza interiore dello Spirito Santo, e 17 che Cristo abiti sempre più nei vostri cuori e viva dentro di voi per mezzo della fede. A lui chiedo che restiate profondamente radicati e fondati nellʼamore. 18 Così voi, insieme con tutti i credenti, potrete conoscere e capire fino in fondo lʼampiezza, la lunghezza, la altezza e la profondità dellʼamore di Cristo che supera qualsiasi umana conoscenza. Allora, finalmente, sarete ripieni di Dio stesso. 20 Sia gloria a Dio ché, per mezzo della sua straordinaria potenza che agisce dentro di noi, può fare molto di più di quanto noi oseremmo soltanto chiedere o pensare, infinitamente di più di ciò che domandiamo, desideriamo e speriamo. 21 A lui sia gloria nella Chiesa e in Gesù Cristo, in ogni momento e per sempre. Amen.

The Mystery of the Gospel Revealed

1 For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles— 2 assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, 3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. 4 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. 6 This mystery is* that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. 7 Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power. 8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in* God, who created all things, 10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. 13 So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory.

Prayer for Spiritual Strength

14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family* in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
