A Preparação das Lâmpadas do Candelabro

1 Disse também o SENHOR a Moisés: 2 “Diga o seguinte a Arão: Quando você preparar as sete lâmpadas, estas deverão iluminar a área da frente do candelabro”. 3 Arão assim fez; dispôs as lâmpadas de modo que estivessem voltadas para a frente do candelabro, como o SENHOR tinha ordenado a Moisés. 4 O candelabro foi feito de ouro batido, do pedestal às flores, conforme o modelo que o SENHOR tinha mostrado a Moisés.

A Consagração dos Levitas

5 O SENHOR disse a Moisés: 6 “Separe os levitas do meio dos israelitas e purifique-os. 7 A purificação deles será assim: você aspergirá a água da purificação sobre eles; fará com que rapem o corpo todo e lavem as roupas, para que se purifiquem. 8 Depois eles trarão um novilho com a oferta de cereal da melhor farinha amassada com óleo; e você trará um segundo novilho como oferta pelo pecado. 9 Você levará os levitas para a frente da Tenda do Encontro e reunirá toda a comunidade de Israel. 10 Levará os levitas à presença do SENHOR, e os israelitas imporão as mãos sobre eles. 11 Arão apresentará os levitas ao SENHOR como oferta ritualmente movida da parte dos israelitas: eles serão dedicados ao trabalho do SENHOR. 12 “Depois que os levitas impuserem as mãos sobre a cabeça dos novilhos, você oferecerá um novilho como oferta pelo pecado e o outro como holocausto ao SENHOR, para fazer propiciação pelos levitas. 13 Disponha os levitas em frente de Arão e dos filhos dele e apresente-os como oferta movida ao SENHOR. 14 Dessa maneira você separará os levitas do meio dos israelitas, e os levitas serão meus. 15 “Depois que você purificar os levitas e os apresentar como oferta movida, eles entrarão na Tenda do Encontro para ministrar. 16 Eles são os israelitas que deverão ser inteiramente dedicados a mim. Eu os separei para serem meus em lugar dos primogênitos, do primeiro filho homem de cada mulher israelita. 17 Todo primogênito em Israel, entre os homens e entre os rebanhos, é meu. Eu os separei para mim quando feri todos os primogênitos no Egito 18 e escolhi os levitas em lugar de todos os primogênitos em Israel. 19 Dentre todos os israelitas, dediquei os levitas como dádivas a Arão e aos seus filhos; eles ministrarão na Tenda do Encontro em nome dos israelitas e farão propiciação por eles, para que nenhuma praga atinja os israelitas quando se aproximarem do santuário”. 20 Moisés, Arão e toda a comunidade de Israel fizeram com os levitas como o SENHOR tinha ordenado a Moisés. 21 Os levitas se purificaram e lavaram suas roupas; e Arão os apresentou como oferta ritualmente movida perante o SENHOR e fez propiciação por eles para purificá-los. 22 Depois disso os levitas passaram a ministrar na Tenda do Encontro sob a supervisão de Arão e dos seus filhos. Fizeram com os levitas como o SENHOR tinha ordenado a Moisés. 23 O SENHOR disse ainda a Moisés: 24 “Isto diz respeito aos levitas: os homens de vinte e cinco anos para cima, aptos para servir, tomarão parte no trabalho que se faz na Tenda do Encontro, 25 mas aos cinquenta anos deverão afastar-se do serviço regular e nele não mais trabalharão. 26 Poderão ajudar seus companheiros de ofício na responsabilidade de cuidar da Tenda do Encontro, mas eles mesmos não deverão fazer o trabalho. Assim você designará as responsabilidades dos levitas”.

The Seven Lamps

1 Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to Aaron and say to him, When you set up the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand.” 3 And Aaron did so: he set up its lamps in front of the lampstand, as the LORD commanded Moses. 4 And this was the workmanship of the lampstand, hammered work of gold. From its base to its flowers, it was hammered work; according to the pattern that the LORD had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand.

Cleansing of the Levites

5 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 “Take the Levites from among the people of Israel and cleanse them. 7 Thus you shall do to them to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of purification upon them, and let them go with a razor over all their body, and wash their clothes and cleanse themselves. 8 Then let them take a bull from the herd and its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you shall take another bull from the herd for a sin offering. 9 And you shall bring the Levites before the tent of meeting and assemble the whole congregation of the people of Israel. 10 When you bring the Levites before the LORD, the people of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites, 11 and Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD as a wave offering from the people of Israel, that they may do the service of the LORD. 12 Then the Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and you shall offer the one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering to the LORD to make atonement for the Levites. 13 And you shall set the Levites before Aaron and his sons, and shall offer them as a wave offering to the LORD. 14 “Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the people of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine. 15 And after that the Levites shall go in to serve at the tent of meeting, when you have cleansed them and offered them as a wave offering. 16 For they are wholly given to me from among the people of Israel. Instead of all who open the womb, the firstborn of all the people of Israel, I have taken them for myself. 17 For all the firstborn among the people of Israel are mine, both of man and of beast. On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I consecrated them for myself, 18 and I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel. 19 And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the people of Israel, to do the service for the people of Israel at the tent of meeting and to make atonement for the people of Israel, that there may be no plague among the people of Israel when the people of Israel come near the sanctuary.” 20 Thus did Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the people of Israel to the Levites. According to all that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, the people of Israel did to them. 21 And the Levites purified themselves from sin and washed their clothes, and Aaron offered them as a wave offering before the LORD, and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them. 22 And after that the Levites went in to do their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron and his sons; as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.

Retirement of the Levites

23 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “This applies to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they* shall come to do duty in the service of the tent of meeting. 25 And from the age of fifty years they shall withdraw from the duty of the service and serve no more. 26 They minister* to their brothers in the tent of meeting by keeping guard, but they shall do no service. Thus shall you do to the Levites in assigning their duties.”
