Apóstoles de Cristo

1 Que todos nos consideren servidores de Cristo, encargados de administrar los misterios de Dios. 2 Ahora bien, a los que reciben un encargo se les exige que demuestren ser dignos de confianza. 3 Por mi parte, muy poco me preocupa que me juzguéis vosotros o cualquier tribunal humano; es más, ni siquiera me juzgo a mí mismo. 4 Porque, aunque la conciencia no me remuerde, no por eso quedo absuelto; el que me juzga es el Señor. 5 Por lo tanto, no juzguéis nada antes de tiempo; esperad hasta que venga el Señor. Él sacará a la luz lo que está oculto en la oscuridad y pondrá al descubierto las intenciones de cada corazón. Entonces cada uno recibirá de Dios la alabanza que le corresponda. 6 Hermanos, todo esto lo he aplicado a Apolos y a mí mismo para vuestro beneficio, con el fin de que aprendáis de nosotros aquello de«no ir más allá de lo que está escrito». Así ninguno de vosotros podrá engreírse de haber favorecido al uno en perjuicio del otro. 7 ¿Quién te distingue de los demás? ¿Qué tienes que no hayas recibido? Y, si lo recibiste, ¿por qué presumes como si no te lo hubieran dado? 8 ¡Ya tenéis todo lo que deseáis! ¡Ya os habéis enriquecido! ¡Habéis llegado a ser reyes, y eso sin nosotros! ¡Ojalá fuerais de verdad reyes para que también nosotros reináramos con vosotros! 9 Por lo que veo, a nosotros los apóstoles Dios nos ha hecho desfilar en el último lugar, como a los sentenciados a muerte. Hemos llegado a ser un espectáculo para todo el universo, tanto para los ángeles como para los hombres. 10 ¡Por causa de Cristo, nosotros somos los ignorantes; vosotros, en Cristo, sois los inteligentes! ¡Los débiles somos nosotros; los fuertes sois vosotros! ¡A vosotros se os estima; a nosotros se nos desprecia! 11 Hasta el momento pasamos hambre, tenemos sed, nos falta ropa, se nos maltrata, no tenemos dónde vivir. 12 Con estas manos nos matamos trabajando. Si nos maldicen, bendecimos; si nos persiguen, lo soportamos; 13 si nos calumnian, los tratamos con gentileza. Se nos considera la escoria de la tierra, la basura del mundo, y así hasta el día de hoy. 14 No os escribo esto para avergonzaros, sino para amonestaros, como a hijos míos amados. 15 De hecho, aunque tuvierais miles de tutores en Cristo, padres sí que no tenéis muchos, porque mediante el evangelio yo fui el padre que os engendró en Cristo Jesús. 16 Por tanto, os ruego que sigáis mi ejemplo. 17 Con este propósito os envié a Timoteo, mi amado y fiel hijo en el Señor. Él os recordará mi manera de comportarme en Cristo Jesús, como enseño por todas partes y en todas las iglesias. 18 Ahora bien, algunos de vosotros os habéis vuelto presuntuosos, pensando que no iré a veros. 19 Lo cierto es que, si Dios quiere, iré a visitaros muy pronto, y ya veremos no solo cómo hablan, sino cuánto poder tienen esos presumidos. 20 Porque el reino de Dios no es cuestión de palabras, sino de poder. 21 ¿Qué preferís: que vaya a veros con un látigo, o con amor y espíritu apacible?

The Ministry of Apostles

1 This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. 3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. 4 For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God. 6 I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers,* that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. 7 For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it? 8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Without us you have become kings! And would that you did reign, so that we might share the rule with you! 9 For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. 11 To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless, 12 and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; 13 when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things. 14 I do not write these things to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. 15 For though you have countless* guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. 16 I urge you, then, be imitators of me. 17 That is why I sent* you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ,* as I teach them everywhere in every church. 18 Some are arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. 19 But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will find out not the talk of these arrogant people but their power. 20 For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. 21 What do you wish? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love in a spirit of gentleness?
