The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.”4But the Lord has told me to say to you, “This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted, throughout the earth.5Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.” ’

1Dies ist das Wort, das der Prophet Jeremia zu Baruch, dem Sohn Nerijas, redete, als er die Worte, wie Jeremia sie ihm sagte, auf eine Schriftrolle schrieb, im vierten Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda:2So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels, über dich, Baruch:3Du sprichst: Weh mir, wie hat mir der HERR Jammer zu meinem Schmerz hinzugefügt! Ich bin müde vom Seufzen und finde keine Ruhe.4Sage ihm: So spricht der HERR: Siehe, was ich gebaut habe, das reiße ich ein, und was ich gepflanzt habe, das reiße ich aus. Das gilt der ganzen Erde.5Und du begehrst für dich große Dinge? Begehre es nicht! Denn siehe, ich will Unheil kommen lassen über alles Fleisch, spricht der HERR, aber dein Leben sollst du wie eine Beute davonbringen, an welchen Ort du auch ziehst.
