1In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it –2at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, ‘Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.’ And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot.3Then the Lord said, ‘Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,*4so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared – to Egypt’s shame.5Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame.6In that day the people who live on this coast will say, “See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?” ’

Ein Zeichen gegen Ägypten und Kusch
1Im Jahr, da der Tartan nach Aschdod kam, als ihn gesandt hatte Sargon, der König von Assyrien, und er gegen Aschdod kämpfte und es eroberte, –2zu der Zeit redete der HERR durch Jesaja, den Sohn des Amoz, und sprach: Geh hin und tu den Sack von deinen Lenden und zieh die Schuhe von deinen Füßen. Und er tat so und ging nackt und barfuß.3Da sprach der HERR: Gleichwie mein Knecht Jesaja nackt und barfuß ging drei Jahre lang als Zeichen und Weissagung über Ägypten und Kusch,4so wird der König von Assyrien wegtreiben die Gefangenen Ägyptens und die Verbannten von Kusch, jung und alt, nackt und barfuß, in schmählicher Blöße, zur Schande Ägyptens.5Und sie werden erschrecken in Juda und zuschanden werden wegen der Kuschiter, auf die sie sich verließen, und wegen der Ägypter, derer sie sich rühmten.6Und die Bewohner dieser Küste werden sagen zu der Zeit: Ist das unsere Zuversicht, zu der wir um Hilfe geflohen sind, dass wir errettet würden vor dem König von Assyrien? Wie könnten wir selber entrinnen?
