Your lips will keep on speaking words of knowledge.3A woman who commits adultery has lips that drip honey. What she says is smoother than olive oil.4But in the end she is like bitter poison. She cuts like a sword that has two edges.5Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to the grave.6She doesn’t give any thought to her way of life. Her paths have no direction, but she doesn’t realise it.7My sons, listen to me. Don’t turn away from what I say.8Stay on a path far away from that evil woman. Don’t even go near the door of her house.9If you do, you shall lose your honour to other people. You shall give your self-respect to someone who is mean.10Strangers will use up all your wealth. Your hard work will make someone else rich.11At the end of your life you will groan. Your skin and your body will be worn out.12You will say, ‘How I hated to take advice! How my heart refused to be corrected!13I would not obey my teachers. I wouldn’t listen to those who taught me.14I was soon in deep trouble. It happened right in front of the whole assembly of God’s people.’15Drink water from your own well. Drink running water from your own spring.16Should your springs pour out into the streets? Should your streams of water pour out in public places?17No! Let them belong to you alone. Never share them with strangers.18May your fountain be blessed. May the wife you married when you were young make you happy.19She is like a loving doe, a graceful deer. May her breasts always satisfy you. May you always be captured by her love.20My son, why be captured by another man’s wife? Why hug a woman who has gone astray?21The LORD watches your ways. He studies all your paths.22Sinners are trapped by their own evil acts. They are held tight by the ropes of their sins.23They will die because they refused to be corrected. Their sins will capture them because they were very foolish.

Warnung vor Ehebruch
1Mein Sohn,* hör mir zu und beherzige, was ich dir als Weisheit und Einsicht weitergebe.2Dann wirst du gescheit und redest, was Hand und Fuß hat.3Die fremde Frau* lockt dich mit honigsüßen Worten, glatt wie Öl fließen sie von ihren Lippen.4Doch am Ende ist sie bitter wie Galle und tödlich wie ein beidseitig geschliffenes Schwert.5Sie reißt dich mit in den Tod, ihre Schritte führen geradewegs ins Grab.6Damit du den Weg zum Leben nicht siehst, lenkt sie dich ab, ohne dass du es merkst.7Hört mir jetzt gut zu, ihr jungen Männer, und schlagt meine Warnungen nicht in den Wind!8Geh dieser Frau aus dem Weg! Komm der Tür ihres Hauses nicht zu nahe!9Sonst bist du deine Ehre los und ein erbarmungsloser Rächer bringt dich um alles, was du in langen Jahren erworben hast.*10Dann leben Fremde von deinem Vermögen und der Ertrag deiner Mühe kommt einem Unbekannten zugute.11Wenn du schließlich bis auf die Knochen abgemagert bist, dann stöhnst du12und jammerst: »Hätte ich mir nur etwas sagen lassen! Warum habe ich mich gegen jede Ermahnung gesträubt?13Hätte ich doch besser aufgepasst und auf meine Lehrer gehört!14Um ein Haar wäre ich in aller Öffentlichkeit bloßgestellt worden!«15Du hast doch deinen eigenen Brunnen, deine Quelle, die klares Wasser sprudelt. Trink aus dieser Quelle!16Willst du, dass ihr Wasser auf die Straße fließt?17Willst du es etwa mit anderen teilen? Für dich allein soll es sprudeln!18Freue dich an der Frau, die du jung geheiratet hast. Sie soll dir viele Kinder schenken!19Anmutig wie eine Gazelle ist sie. Ihre Brüste sollen dich immer berauschen, in ihren Armen kannst du dich selbst vergessen!20Mein Sohn, willst du wirklich dein Glück bei einer anderen suchen und dich an den Brüsten einer Fremden berauschen?21Bedenke: Der HERR sieht alles, was du tust, und prüft alle deine Wege.22Deine Untaten werden dich einholen; deine Sünde wird dir zur Schlinge, in der du dich selber fängst.23Wer keine Selbstbeherrschung hat, kommt um. Seine bodenlose Dummheit bringt ihn ins Grab.
