1Boas war inzwischen zum ´Versammlungsplatz beim` Stadttor gegangen und hatte sich dort hingesetzt. Da ging der andere Löser vorbei, von dem Boas gesprochen hatte. Boas forderte ihn auf: »Komm doch herüber* und setz dich zu mir!« Der Mann kam und setzte sich.2Dann holte Boas zehn der führenden Männer von Betlehem und forderte auch sie auf, sich zu setzen. Das taten sie,3und Boas sagte zu dem anderen Löser: » ´Wie du weißt`, ist Noomi aus dem Land Moab zurückgekehrt. Nun will sie das Feld verkaufen, das unserem Verwandten Elimelech gehört.«*4Ich wollte dich darauf aufmerksam machen und dir vorschlagen, es zu erwerben. Die hier versammelten führenden Männer von Betlehem* und alle anderen Anwesenden sollen den Kauf bezeugen. Bitte überleg dir, ob du es erwerben willst, damit es im Besitz unserer Sippe bleibt.* Du hast das Vorkaufsrecht*, und ich bin erst nach dir an der Reihe.« Der Verwandte antwortete: »Ich will das Feld kaufen*.«5Boas erwiderte: »Wenn du das Feld von Noomi kaufst, musst du auch die Moabiterin Rut, die Witwe Machlons, zur Frau nehmen*, ´um mit ihr einen Sohn zu zeugen. Er wird das Feld erben`, damit der Name des Verstorbenen auf seinem Erbbesitz weiterlebt.*«6Da sagte der andere Löser: »Wenn das so ist, kann ich das Feld nicht kaufen*. Sonst schmälert der Kauf mit all seinen Verpflichtungen nur das Erbe, das ich an meine eigenen Kinder weitergeben kann.* Löse du das Feld an meiner Stelle aus. Ich kann es nicht!«7Damals bestätigte man in Israel eine Auslösung oder ein Tauschgeschäft, indem der eine seine Sandale auszog und sie dem anderen reichte. Dadurch wurde der Handel rechtskräftig.8Als nun der andere Löser zu Boas sagte: »Kaufe ´das Feld` für dich!«, zog er seine Sandale aus.9Da sagte Boas zu den führenden Männern und zu dem ganzen versammelten Volk: »Ihr seid heute Zeugen, dass ich alles, was Elimelech und ´seinen Söhnen` Kiljon und Machlon gehörte, von Noomi gekauft habe.10Dadurch habe ich mich auch verpflichtet, Machlons Witwe, die Moabiterin Rut, zu heiraten, damit der Name des Verstorbenen auf seinem Erbbesitz weiterlebt. Machlons Name soll in seiner Sippe und in seiner Stadt nicht vergessen werden*. Dafür seid ihr heute Zeugen.«11Die führenden Männer und alle anderen Leute am Stadttor bekräftigten: »Ja, wir sind Zeugen! Möge der HERR die Frau, die jetzt in dein Haus kommt, ´so fruchtbar` machen wie Rahel und Lea, die zusammen das Volk Israel* begründet haben! Mögest du in Efrata Reichtum und Einfluss erlangen. Dein Name soll berühmt werden in Betlehem.12Durch die Nachkommen, die der HERR dir durch diese junge Frau schenken wird, soll deine Familie so ´bedeutend` werden wie die Familie von Perez, dem Sohn Tamars und Judas.«

13So nahm Boas Rut zur Frau. Er schlief mit ihr, und der HERR ließ sie schwanger werden. Sie brachte einen Sohn zur Welt.14Die Frauen ´von Betlehem` sagten zu Noomi: »Gepriesen sei der HERR! Er hat dir heute einen Erben geschenkt, der für dich sorgen wird.* Möge sein Name in ganz Israel berühmt werden!15Er wird dir deinen Lebensmut zurückgeben und sich im Alter um dich kümmern. Denn deine Schwiegertochter, die dich liebt, hat ihn geboren. Sie ist für dich mehr wert als sieben Söhne!«16Noomi nahm den Jungen auf ihren Schoß und kümmerte sich wie eine Mutter um ihn.17Ihre Nachbarinnen riefen:* »Noomi hat einen Sohn bekommen!« Sie gaben ihm den Namen Obed*. Obed war der Vater Isais, und Isai war der Vater von ´König` David.18Dies ist das Verzeichnis der Nachkommen von Perez:* Perez war der Vater von Hezron,19Hezron war der Vater von Ram, Ram war der Vater von Amminadab,20Amminadab war der Vater von Nachschon, Nachschon war der Vater von Salmon,21Salmon war der Vater von Boas, Boas war der Vater von Obed,22Obed war der Vater von Isai und Isai war der Vater von David.

1Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.2And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.3And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech':4And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it , redeem it : but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. So he drew off his shoe.9And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech', and all that was Chilion' and Mahlon', of the hand of Naomi.10Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.11And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:12And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.13So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.14And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.15And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.16And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.17And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.18Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,19And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,20And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,21And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,22And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
