1Als Salomo den Tempel, den Königspalast und alle anderen Bauvorhaben vollendet hatte,2erschien ihm der HERR ein zweites Mal, wie er ihm einst in Gibeon erschienen war.3Der HERR sagte zu ihm: »Ich habe dein Gebet und dein Flehen gehört. Den Tempel, den du erbaut hast, habe ich als den Ort erwählt, wo ich für immer wohnen will. Mein Blick wird allezeit auf diesem Haus ruhen, und mein Herz ist ihm zugewandt.4Wenn du mir aufrichtig und von ganzem Herzen dienst wie dein Vater David, wenn du alles tust, was ich dir geboten habe, wenn du nach meinen Ordnungen und Rechtsbestimmungen lebst,5dann werde ich deinem Königshaus in Israel für immer Bestand geben. So habe ich es deinem Vater versprochen, als ich zu ihm sagte: ›Immer soll einer deiner Nachkommen auf Israels Thron sitzen.‹6Aber wenn ihr oder eure Nachkommen euch von mir abwendet, wenn ihr nicht mehr nach meinen Geboten und Ordnungen lebt, wenn ihr anderen Göttern nachlauft und sie anbetet,7dann werde ich euch Israeliten aus dem Land herausreißen, das ich euch gegeben habe. Auch diesen Tempel, den ich erwählt habe, damit mein Name dort verehrt wird, werde ich verwerfen. Israel wird zum Inbegriff ´des Unglücks` und zum Gespött aller Völker werden.8Dieser Tempel wird nur noch ein Trümmerhaufen sein.* Jeder, der vorübergeht, wird voll Entsetzen fragen*: ›Warum hat der HERR dieses Land und diesen Tempel so zugerichtet?‹9Und man wird ihm antworten: ›Weil die Israeliten sich vom HERRN, ihrem Gott, abgewandt haben. Er hat ihre Vorfahren aus Ägypten geführt, aber sie haben sich anderen Göttern zugewandt, haben sie angebetet und ihnen gedient. Darum hat der HERR all dieses Unglück über sie hereinbrechen lassen.‹«
Salomos Handel mit Hiram
10Salomo hatte zwanzig Jahre am Tempel des HERRN und an seinem eigenen Palast gebaut.11König Hiram von Tyrus hatte ihm dafür ´große Mengen an` Zedernholz und Zypressenholz geliefert, außerdem so viel Gold, wie er brauchte. Damals trat Salomo zwanzig Städte in Galiläa an Hiram ab.12Hiram kam von Tyrus, um die Städte zu begutachten. Aber sie gefielen ihm nicht,13und er sagte zu Salomo: »Was sind denn das für Städte, mein Bruder, die du mir gegeben hast?« Bis heute nennt man diese Gegend Kabul (»wertlos«)*.14Hiram hatte König Salomo immerhin vier Tonnen* Gold geliefert.*
Salomos Bautätigkeiten
15König Salomo setzte bei allen seinen Bautätigkeiten Fronarbeiter ein: beim Bau des Tempels und des Palasts, beim Aufschütten des Millo*, beim Ausbau der Stadtmauern Jerusalems sowie bei der Befestigung der Städte Hazor, Megiddo und Geser.16– Die Stadt Geser hatte der Pharao von Ägypten bei einem seiner Feldzüge eingenommen. Er hatte sie niedergebrannt und die Kanaaniter, die sie bewohnten, getötet. Als seine Tochter Salomos Frau wurde, gab er ihr Geser als Mitgift in die Ehe,17und Salomo baute die Stadt wieder auf. – Salomo ließ auch das untere Bet-Horon befestigen,18ebenso Baalat und die Wüstenstadt Tamar* im Gebiet ´von Juda`.19Außerdem baute er weitere Städte aus, um Vorräte zu lagern und seine Streitwagen und Reitertruppen unterzubringen. Bei allem, was Salomo in Jerusalem, im Libanon und in seinem ganzen Herrschaftsgebiet bauen wollte,20´setzte er` die Nachkommen der Amoriter, Hetiter, Perisiter, Hiwiter und Jebusiter*, die im Land übrig geblieben waren, ´als Fronarbeiter ein`.21Sie lebten noch in Israel, denn die Israeliten hatten an ihnen nicht den Bann vollstrecken ´und sie vernichten` können. Doch nun machte Salomo sie zu Fronarbeitern, und das sind sie bis heute.22Die Israeliten dagegen blieben vom Frondienst verschont. Salomo machte sie zu seinen Soldaten und Beamten. Sie dienten ihm als Hauptleute und Offiziere und kommandierten seine Wagen- und Reitertruppen.23Salomo setzte fünfhundertfünzig Beamte als Aufseher über die Fronarbeiter ein. Sie unterstanden den Provinzverwaltern* und leiteten die Baumaßnahmen.24Mit den Arbeiten am Millo begann Salomo, nachdem die Tochter des Pharaos aus der Davidsstadt in das ´neue` Haus umgezogen war, das er ihr gebaut hatte.
Salomos regelmäßige Opfer
25Dreimal im Jahr opferte Salomo Brand- und Gemeinschaftsopfer auf dem Altar, den er für den HERRN gebaut hatte; er verbrannte darauf auch Weihrauch für den HERRN*. So nutzte er den Tempel gemäß seiner Bestimmung.*
Salomos Handelsflotte
26In Ezjon-Geber am Roten Meer, das in der Nähe von Eilat im Gebiet der Edomiter liegt, ließ König Salomo eine Flotte bauen.27König Hiram stellte ihm erfahrene Seeleute zur Verfügung, die gemeinsam mit Salomos Männern die Schiffe bemannten.28Sie segelten ins Land Ofir; von dort brachten sie Salomo über vierzehn Tonnen* Gold mit.
