1In Schilo im Land Kanaan* kamen die Sippenoberhäupter des Stammes Levi zum Priester Eleasar, zu Josua, dem Sohn Nuns, und zu allen anderen Sippenoberhäuptern der Stämme Israels2und sagten zu ihnen: »Der HERR hat durch Mose befohlen, uns Städte zu geben, in denen wir wohnen können, und dazu das angrenzende Weideland* für unser Vieh.«3Da traten die Israeliten den Leviten von ihrem Erbbesitz bestimmte Städte mit dem dazugehörenden Weideland ab, so wie der HERR es befohlen hatte.4Zuerst wurde das Los für die levitische Sippe der Kehatiter geworfen.* Zu ihnen gehörten auch die Nachkommen des Priesters Aaron. Ihnen wurden dreizehn Städte im Gebiet der Stämme Juda, Simeon und Benjamin zugeteilt.5Den übrigen Nachkommen Kehats fielen zehn Städte im Gebiet der Stämme Efraim und Dan sowie im westlichen* Gebiet von Manasse zu.6Die Sippe Gerschon bekam dreizehn Städte im Gebiet der Stämme Issachar, Ascher und Naftali sowie in der Landschaft Baschan im östlichen Gebiet von Manasse.7Die Sippe Merari erhielt zwölf Städte im Gebiet der Stämme Ruben, Gad und Sebulon.8Diese Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland teilten die Israeliten den Leviten durch das Los zu, so wie der HERR ´es ihnen` durch Mose befohlen hatte.
Die Städte der Sippe Kehat
9Folgende namentlich genannte Städte aus dem Gebiet der Stämme Juda und Simeon gab man10den Nachkommen Aarons aus der levitischen Sippe Kehat, die als Erste ihren Anteil zugelost bekamen:11zunächst Kirjat-Arba – das heutige Hebron – im Bergland von Juda mit dem Weideland, das an die Stadt angrenzte. – Arba war der Stammvater der Anakiter. –12Die Äcker der Stadt sowie die umliegenden Dörfer ´mit ihren Feldern` hatten die Israeliten ´schon vorher` Kaleb, dem Sohn Jefunnes, als Erbbesitz zugeteilt.13Die Nachkommen des Priesters Aaron bekamen die Stadt selbst, die zugleich als Zufluchtsstadt für Totschläger bestimmt worden war, sowie das daran angrenzende Weideland. Außerdem ´gab man ihnen` Libna*,14Jattir, Eschtemoa,15Holon, Debir,16Ajin, Jutta und Bet-Schemesch. Insgesamt erhielten sie neun Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland von den beiden Stämmen ´Juda und Simeon`.17Dazu kamen aus dem Gebiet des Stammes Benjamin die Städte Gibeon, Geba,18Anatot und Alemet, also noch einmal vier Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.19Die Nachkommen des Priesters Aaron erhielten somit insgesamt dreizehn Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.20Den übrigen Familien aus der levitischen Sippe Kehat wurden einige Städte aus dem Gebiet des Stammes Efraim zugelost.21Sie bekamen Sichem im Bergland von Efraim – eine Zufluchtsstadt für Totschläger –, außerdem Geser,22Kibzajim und Bet-Horon: vier Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.23Aus dem Gebiet des Stammes Dan erhielten sie Elteke, Gibbeton,24Ajalon und Gat-Rimmon: ebenfalls vier Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.25Dazu kamen im westlichen Gebiet des Stammes Manasse die beiden Städte Taanach und Jibleam* mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.26Die übrigen Familien aus der Sippe Kehat erhielten somit insgesamt zehn Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.
Die Städte der Sippe Gerschon
27Die levitische Sippe Gerschon bekam zwei Städte vom Gebiet des östlichen Stammes Manasse: Golan in der Landschaft Baschan – eine Zufluchtsstadt für Totschläger – sowie Aschtarot*.28Dazu kamen vom Gebiet des Stammes Issachar die Städte Kischjon, Daberat,29Jarmut und En-Gannim: vier Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.30Vom Gebiet des Stammes Ascher erhielten sie Mischal, Abdon,31Helkat und Rehob: ebenfalls vier Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.32Vom Stamm Naftali fiel ihnen Kedesch in Galiläa zu – eine Zufluchtsstadt für Totschläger – sowie Hammot-Dor und Kartan: drei Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.33Somit erhielt die Sippe Gerschon insgesamt dreizehn Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.
Die Städte der Sippe Merari
34Die Sippe Merari, zu der alle übrigen Leviten gehörten, bekam vom Gebiet des Stammes Sebulon die Städte Jokneam, Karta,35Rimmon* und Nahalal: vier Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.36Vom Gebiet des Stammes Ruben kamen Bezer, Jahaz,37Kedemot und Mefaat dazu: ebenfalls vier Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.38Aus dem Gebiet des Stammes Gad wurde ihnen Ramot in der Landschaft Gilead zugeteilt – eine Zufluchtsstadt für Totschläger –, außerdem Mahanajim,39Heschbon und Jaser: also noch einmal vier Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.40Insgesamt erhielt die Sippe Merari* zwölf Städte mit dem angrenzenden Weideland.41Die Gesamtzahl der Levitenstädte in allen Stammesgebieten betrug achtundvierzig.42Zu jeder Stadt bekamen die Leviten auch das Weideland, das an die Stadt angrenzte.*
Der Herr hat sein Versprechen gehalten
43So gab der HERR den Israeliten das ganze Land, das er ihren Vorfahren mit einem Eid zugesagt hatte. Sie nahmen es in Besitz und ließen sich darin nieder.44Der HERR verschaffte ihnen Frieden an allen Grenzen*, wie er es bereits ihren Vorfahren versprochen hatte. Keiner ihrer Feinde konnte sich gegen sie behaupten, denn der HERR gab sie alle in ihre Gewalt.45So hatte der HERR nun alle seine Zusagen erfüllt. Nichts von all dem Guten, das er dem Volk* Israel versprochen hatte, war ausgeblieben. Alles war eingetroffen.
