Deberes filiales

1 Hijos, obedezcan a sus padres, pues esto es lo que deben hacer los que pertenecen al Señor. 2 «Honra a tu padre y a tu madre» es el primer mandamiento que contiene una promesa: 3 «para que te vaya bien y disfrutes una vida larga». 4 Y en cuanto a ustedes, padres, no hagan enojar a sus hijos. Más bien edúquenlos como quiere el Señor, con disciplina y consejos.

Deberes de los esclavos y de sus amos

5 Esclavos, obedezcan a sus amos humanos; sírvanles de buena gana, con respeto y sinceridad de corazón, como a Cristo. 6 No sean de los que trabajan bien sólo cuando el amo los está observando, para quedar bien con él. Trabajen como si lo hicieran para Cristo, cumpliendo de todo corazón la voluntad de Dios. 7 Hagan su trabajo de buena gana, como quien sirve al Señor y no a seres humanos. 8 Recuerden que el Señor nos dará a cada uno según el bien que hayamos hecho, seamos esclavos o libres. 9 Y ustedes, amos, actúen de la misma manera con sus esclavos y dejen a un lado las amenazas. Recuerden que ustedes, al igual que ellos, tienen al mismo Señor en el cielo, y que él no tiene favoritos.

La armadura de Dios

10 Por último, recuerden que su fortaleza debe venir del gran poder del Señor. 11 Vístanse de toda la armadura que Dios les ha dado, para que puedan hacer frente a los engaños astutos del diablo, 12 porque nuestra lucha no es contra seres humanos, sino contra los poderes, las autoridades y los gobernantes de este mundo en tinieblas; o sea, que luchamos contra los espíritus malignos que actúan en el cielo. 13 Por ello, vístanse de toda la armadura de Dios para que puedan resistir en el día malo y así, al terminar la batalla, estén todavía en pie. 14 ¡Manténganse firmes! Que su ropa de batalla sea la verdad y su protección la justicia. 15 Estén siempre listos para anunciar las buenas nuevas de la paz. 16 Sobre todo, tomen el escudo de la fe para apagar los dardos de fuego que arroja el maligno. 17 Pónganse el casco de la salvación y tomen la espada que les da el Espíritu, que es la Palabra de Dios. 18 Sobre todo, oren a Dios en todo tiempo. Y cuando lo hagan, sean dirigidos por el Espíritu. Manténganse bien despiertos y vigilantes, y no dejen de orar por todo el pueblo santo de Dios. 19 Oren también por mí. Pidan a Dios que ponga en mi boca las palabras que debo decir, para que con valor anuncie las buenas nuevas que Dios había mantenido en secreto. 20 Dios me ha enviado como su representante para predicar este mensaje, y precisamente por eso ahora estoy preso. Oren para que lo anuncie sin temor alguno, pues ese es mi deber.

Saludos finales

21 Tíquico, nuestro querido hermano y fiel servidor en la obra del Señor, les contará cómo me va y qué hago. 22 Para eso precisamente lo envío. Quiero que ustedes sepan de nosotros y así se animen. 23 Que Dios el Padre y el Señor Jesucristo les den paz, amor y fe a los hermanos. 24 Que la gracia de Dios esté sobre todos los que aman a nuestro Señor Jesucristo con amor inagotable.

Children and Parents

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Bondservants and Masters

5 Bondservants,* obey your earthly masters* with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. 9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master* and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.

The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

Final Greetings

21 So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, Tychicus the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord will tell you everything. 22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage your hearts. 23 Peace be to the brothers,* and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.
