1Ahora, hermanos, les suplicamos en el nombre del Señor Jesús que cada vez vivan más como le agrada a Dios, así como lo aprendieron de nosotros. En realidad, ya lo están haciendo.2Ustedes saben cuáles son las instrucciones que les dimos de parte del Señor Jesús.3Dios quiere que sean santos; que no cometan inmoralidades sexuales;4que cada uno aprenda a controlar su propio cuerpo de una manera santa y respetuosa;5que no se dejen llevar por los malos deseos, como hacen los paganos que no conocen a Dios,6y que nadie le haga daño a su hermano ni se aproveche de él en este asunto. El Señor castiga todas estas cosas, como ya se lo habíamos dicho y advertido.7Dios no nos ha llamado a vivir de manera impura, sino santa.8Por eso, el que rechaza estas instrucciones no rechaza a un hombre sino a Dios, que les ha dado a ustedes su Espíritu Santo.9Con respecto al amor entre los hermanos, no hace falta que les escriba, porque Dios mismo les ha enseñado a amarse unos a otros.10Ustedes aman a todos los hermanos que viven en Macedonia, eso es cierto. Sin embargo, les animamos a que se amen todavía más;11a que traten de vivir en paz con todos; a que se ocupen de sus propios asuntos y trabajen con sus propias manos, como se lo hemos ordenado desde antes.12Si viven de ese modo, se ganarán el respeto de los que no son creyentes y no tendrán que depender de nadie.
La venida del Señor
13Hermanos, no queremos que ignoren lo que pasa con los que mueren, para que no se pongan tristes como esos otros que no tienen esperanza.14Si creemos que Jesús murió y después resucitó, entonces también debemos creer que Dios resucitará con Jesús a los que murieron creyendo en él.15De acuerdo con lo que el Señor nos enseñó, nosotros les aseguramos que los que estemos vivos cuando el Señor regrese, no nos adelantaremos a los que ya estén muertos.16El Señor mismo bajará del cielo con voz de mando, con voz de arcángel y con trompeta de Dios, y los que murieron creyendo en él, serán los que resuciten primero.17Luego, los que estemos vivos en ese momento seremos llevados junto con ellos en las nubes, para reunirnos con el Señor en el aire. Y así estaremos con el Señor para siempre.18Por eso, anímense unos a otros con estas palabras.

A Life Pleasing to God
1Finally, then, brothers,* we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more.2For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus.3For this is the will of God, your sanctification:* that you abstain from sexual immorality;4that each one of you know how to control his own body* in holiness and honor,5not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;6that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.7For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.8Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.9Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another,10for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more,11and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you,12so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.
The Coming of the Lord
13But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.14For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.15For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord,* that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.16For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.17Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.18Therefore encourage one another with these words.
