Lo sacrificado a los ídolos

1 Y ahora, pasemos a la pregunta en cuanto a si se debe comer o no lo que ha sido sacrificado a los ídolos. Es cierto que todos tenemos conocimiento. Sin embargo, el saberlo todo hace que nos sintamos orgullosos. Lo que se necesita es el amor que edifica. 2 El que cree que sabe algo, todavía no sabe nada como debería saber. 3 Pero Dios sabe quién lo ama de veras. 4 Entonces, ¿debemos comer carnes sacrificadas a los ídolos? Bueno, sabemos bien que el ídolo no es nada; y que sólo hay un Dios. 5 Pues aunque hay muchos a los que llaman dioses, en el cielo y en la tierra, y los hay, 6 para nosotros sólo hay un Dios: el Padre, de quien vienen todas las cosas y quien nos hizo para él; y sólo hay un Señor: Jesucristo, quien lo creó todo y nos da vida. 7 Sin embargo, algunos cristianos no se dan cuenta de esto. Siguen tan acostumbrados a sus viejas creencias, que todavía comen esos alimentos creyendo que fueron ofrecidos a los ídolos, y por eso cuando los comen su conciencia les molesta. 8 Recuerden que a Dios no le importa si los comemos o no. No somos peores si los comemos ni mejores si no los comemos. 9 Ahora bien, tengan cuidado; no vayan a lastimar al hermano de conciencia débil al hacer uso de la libertad que tienen de comer cualquier cosa, 10 porque puede suceder que tú, que crees que no hay nada malo en ello, vas a comer al templo de un ídolo, y un hermano débil te ve haciéndolo. Pudiera ser que aquel hermano se decida entonces a comer, aunque en su interior crea que está haciendo mal. 11 Si es así, ese hermano de conciencia débil, por quien Cristo murió, se perderá por culpa de tu conocimiento. 12 Al pecar así contra los hermanos, hiriendo su débil conciencia, pecan ustedes contra Cristo. 13 Por lo tanto, si mi comida va a hacer caer a mi hermano, mejor no la como nunca, para no hacerlo caer en pecado.

Food Offered to Idols

1 Now concerning* food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.* 4 Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” 5 For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”— 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. 7 However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8 Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. 9 But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating* in an idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged,* if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11 And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12 Thus, sinning against your brothers* and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.
