1 Dies ist der Anfang des Evangeliums von Jesus Christus, dem Sohn Gottes.

Johannes der Täufer

2 Wie geschrieben steht im Propheten Jesaja: »Siehe, ich sende meinen Boten vor dir her, der deinen Weg bereiten soll.« 3 »Es ist eine Stimme eines Predigers* in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn, macht seine Steige eben!«, 4 so war Johannes in der Wüste, taufte und predigte die Taufe der Buße zur Vergebung der Sünden. 5 Und es ging zu ihm hinaus das ganze judäische Land und alle Leute von Jerusalem und ließen sich von ihm taufen im Jordan und bekannten ihre Sünden. 6 Und Johannes trug ein Gewand aus Kamelhaaren und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden und aß Heuschrecken und wilden Honig. 7 Und er predigte und sprach: Nach mir kommt der, der stärker ist als ich; ich bin nicht wert, dass ich mich vor ihm bücke und die Riemen seiner Schuhe löse. 8 Ich habe euch mit Wasser getauft; aber er wird euch mit dem Heiligen Geist taufen.

Jesu Taufe und Versuchung

9 Und es begab sich zu der Zeit, dass Jesus aus Nazareth in Galiläa kam und ließ sich taufen von Johannes im Jordan. 10 Und alsbald, als er aus dem Wasser stieg, sah er, dass sich der Himmel auftat und der Geist wie eine Taube herabkam auf ihn. 11 Und da geschah eine Stimme vom Himmel: Du bist mein lieber Sohn, an dir habe ich Wohlgefallen. 12 Und alsbald trieb ihn der Geist in die Wüste; 13 und er war in der Wüste vierzig Tage und wurde versucht von dem Satan und war bei den Tieren, und die Engel dienten ihm.

Der Beginn des Wirkens Jesu in Galiläa

14 Nachdem aber Johannes überantwortet war, kam Jesus nach Galiläa und predigte das Evangelium Gottes 15 und sprach: Die Zeit ist erfüllt, und das Reich Gottes ist nahe herbeigekommen. Tut Buße und glaubt an das Evangelium!

Die Berufung der ersten Jünger

16 Als er aber am Galiläischen Meer entlangging, sah er Simon und Andreas, Simons Bruder, wie sie ihre Netze ins Meer warfen; denn sie waren Fischer. 17 Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Kommt, folgt mir nach; ich will euch zu Menschenfischern machen! 18 Und sogleich verließen sie ihre Netze und folgten ihm nach. 19 Und als er ein wenig weiterging, sah er Jakobus, den Sohn des Zebedäus, und Johannes, seinen Bruder, wie sie im Boot die Netze flickten. 20 Und sogleich rief er sie, und sie ließen ihren Vater Zebedäus im Boot mit den Tagelöhnern und gingen fort, ihm nach.

Jesus in Kapernaum

21 Und sie gingen hinein nach Kapernaum; und alsbald am Sabbat ging er in die Synagoge und lehrte. 22 Und sie entsetzten sich über seine Lehre; denn er lehrte sie mit Vollmacht und nicht wie die Schriftgelehrten. 23 Und alsbald war in ihrer Synagoge ein Mensch, besessen von einem unreinen Geist; der schrie: 24 Was haben wir mit dir zu schaffen, Jesus von Nazareth? Bist du gekommen, uns zu vernichten? Ich weiß, wer du bist: der Heilige Gottes! 25 Und Jesus bedrohte ihn und sprach: Verstumme und fahre aus von ihm! 26 Und der unreine Geist riss ihn hin und her und schrie laut und fuhr aus von ihm. 27 Und sie entsetzten sich alle, sodass sie sich untereinander befragten und sprachen: Was ist das? Eine neue Lehre in Vollmacht! Er gebietet auch den unreinen Geistern, und sie gehorchen ihm! 28 Und die Kunde von ihm erscholl alsbald überall in das ganze Land um Galiläa. 29 Und alsbald gingen sie aus der Synagoge und kamen in das Haus des Simon und Andreas mit Jakobus und Johannes. 30 Die Schwiegermutter Simons aber lag darnieder und hatte das Fieber; und alsbald sagten sie ihm von ihr. 31 Und er trat zu ihr, ergriff sie bei der Hand und richtete sie auf; und das Fieber verließ sie, und sie diente ihnen. 32 Am Abend aber, da die Sonne untergegangen war, brachten sie zu ihm alle Kranken und Besessenen. 33 Und die ganze Stadt war versammelt vor der Tür. 34 Und er heilte viele, die an mancherlei Krankheiten litten, und trieb viele Dämonen aus und ließ die Dämonen nicht reden; denn sie kannten ihn. 35 Und am Morgen, noch vor Tage, stand er auf und ging hinaus. Und er ging an eine einsame Stätte und betete dort. 36 Und Simon und die bei ihm waren, eilten ihm nach. 37 Und da sie ihn fanden, sprachen sie zu ihm: Jedermann sucht dich. 38 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Lasst uns anderswohin gehen, in die nächsten Orte, dass ich auch dort predige; denn dazu bin ich gekommen. 39 Und er kam und predigte in ihren Synagogen in ganz Galiläa und trieb die Dämonen aus.

Die Heilung eines Aussätzigen

40 Und es kam zu ihm ein Aussätziger, der bat ihn, kniete nieder und sprach zu ihm: Willst du, so kannst du mich reinigen. 41 Und es jammerte ihn, und er streckte seine Hand aus, rührte ihn an und sprach zu ihm: Ich will’s tun; sei rein! 42 Und alsbald wich der Aussatz von ihm, und er wurde rein. 43 Und Jesus bedrohte ihn und trieb ihn alsbald von sich 44 und sprach zu ihm: Sieh zu, dass du niemandem etwas sagst; sondern geh hin und zeige dich dem Priester und opfere für deine Reinigung, was Mose geboten hat, ihnen zum Zeugnis. 45 Er aber ging fort und fing an, viel davon zu reden und die Geschichte bekannt zu machen, sodass Jesus hinfort nicht mehr öffentlich in eine Stadt gehen konnte; sondern er war draußen an einsamen Orten; und sie kamen zu ihm von allen Enden.

John the Baptist prepares the way

1 This is the beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. 2 Long ago Isaiah the prophet wrote, ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you. He will prepare your way.’ 3 ‘A messenger is calling out in the desert, “Prepare the way for the Lord. Make straight paths for him.” ’ 4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the desert. He preached that people should be baptised and turn away from their sins. Then God would forgive them. 5 All the people from the countryside of Judea went out to him. All the people from Jerusalem went too. When they admitted they had sinned, John baptised them in the River Jordan. 6 John wore clothes made out of camel’s hair. He had a leather belt around his waist. And he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 Here is what John was preaching. ‘After me, there is someone coming who is more powerful than I am. I’m not good enough to bend down and untie his sandals. 8 I baptise you with water. But he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’

Jesus is baptised and tempted

9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee. John baptised Jesus in the River Jordan. 10 Jesus was coming up out of the water. Just then he saw heaven being torn open. Jesus saw the Holy Spirit coming down on him like a dove. 11 A voice spoke to him from heaven. It said, ‘You are my Son, and I love you. I am very pleased with you.’ 12 At once the Holy Spirit sent Jesus out into the desert. 13 He was in the desert 40 days. There Satan tempted him. The wild animals didn’t harm Jesus. Angels took care of him.

Jesus preaches the good news

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee. He preached the good news of God. 15 ‘The time has come,’ he said. ‘The kingdom of God has come near. Turn away from your sins and believe the good news!’

Jesus chooses his first disciples

16 One day Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. There he saw Simon and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the lake. They were fishermen. 17 ‘Come and follow me,’ Jesus said. ‘I will send you out to fish for people.’ 18 At once they left their nets and followed him. 19 Then Jesus walked a little further. As he did, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat preparing their nets. 20 Right away he called out to them. They left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men. Then they followed Jesus.

Jesus drives out an evil spirit

21 Jesus and those with him went to Capernaum. When the Sabbath day came, he went into the synagogue. There he began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching. That’s because he taught them like one who had authority. He did not talk like the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue cried out. He was controlled by an evil spirit. He said, 24 ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!’ 25 ‘Be quiet!’ said Jesus firmly. ‘Come out of him!’ 26 The evil spirit shook the man wildly. Then it came out of him with a scream. 27 All the people were amazed. So they asked each other, ‘What is this? A new teaching! And with so much authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits, and they obey him.’ 28 News about Jesus spread quickly all over Galilee.

Jesus heals many people

29 Jesus and those with him left the synagogue. Right away they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was lying in bed with a fever. They told Jesus about her right away. 31 So he went to her. He took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her. Then she began to serve them. 32 That evening after sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who were ill. They also brought all who were controlled by demons. 33 All the people in town gathered at the door. 34 Jesus healed many of them. They had all kinds of diseases. He also drove out many demons. But he would not let the demons speak, because they knew who he was.

Jesus prays in a quiet place

35 It was very early in the morning and still dark. Jesus got up and left the house. He went to a place where he could be alone. There he prayed. 36 Simon and his friends went to look for Jesus. 37 When they found him, they called out, ‘Everyone is looking for you!’ 38 Jesus replied, ‘Let’s go somewhere else. I want to go to the nearby towns. I must preach there also. That is why I have come.’ 39 So he travelled all around Galilee. He preached in their synagogues. He also drove out demons.

Jesus heals a man who had a skin disease

40 A man who had a skin disease came to Jesus. On his knees he begged Jesus. He said, ‘If you are willing to make me “clean”, you can do it.’ 41 Jesus became angry. He reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing to do it,’ Jesus said. ‘Be “clean”!’ 42 Right away the disease left the man, and he was ‘clean’. 43 Jesus sent him away at once. He gave the man a strong warning. 44 ‘Don’t tell this to anyone,’ he said. ‘Go and show yourself to the priest. Offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded. It will be a witness to the priest and the people that you are “clean”. ’ 45 But the man went out and started talking right away. He spread the news to everyone. So Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. He stayed outside in lonely places. But people still came to him from everywhere.
