1Dies ist das Wort, das zu Jeremia geschah über das ganze Volk von Juda im vierten Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda; das ist das erste Jahr Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babel.2Der Prophet Jeremia sprach zu dem ganzen Volk von Juda und zu allen Bürgern Jerusalems:3Vom dreizehnten Jahr des Josia an, des Sohnes Amons, des Königs von Juda, ist des HERRN Wort zu mir geschehen bis auf diesen Tag, und ich habe zu euch nun dreiundzwanzig Jahre lang immer wieder gepredigt, aber ihr habt nicht gehört.4Und der HERR hat zu euch immer wieder alle seine Knechte, die Propheten, gesandt; aber ihr habt nicht gehört noch eure Ohren geneigt, mir zu gehorchen,5wenn er sprach: Bekehrt euch, ein jeder von seinem bösen Wege und von euren bösen Werken, so sollt ihr in dem Lande, das der HERR euch und euren Vätern gegeben hat, immer und ewiglich bleiben.6Folgt nicht andern Göttern, ihnen zu dienen und sie anzubeten, und erzürnt mich nicht durch eurer Hände Werk, damit ich euch nicht Unheil zufügen muss.7Aber ihr wolltet mir nicht gehorchen, spricht der HERR, auf dass ihr mich ja erzürntet durch eurer Hände Werk zu eurem eigenen Unheil.8Darum, so spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Weil ihr denn meine Worte nicht gehört habt,9siehe, so will ich ausschicken und kommen lassen alle Völker des Nordens, spricht der HERR, auch meinen Knecht Nebukadnezar, den König von Babel, und will sie bringen über dies Land und über seine Bewohner und über alle diese Völker ringsum und will an ihnen den Bann vollstrecken und sie zum Entsetzen und zum Spott und zur ewigen Wüste machen10und will wegnehmen allen fröhlichen Gesang, die Stimme des Bräutigams und der Braut, das Geräusch der Mühle und das Licht der Lampe.11Dies ganze Land soll wüst und zerstört liegen, und diese Völker sollen dem König von Babel dienen siebzig Jahre.12Wenn aber die siebzig Jahre um sind, will ich heimsuchen den König von Babel und jenes Volk, spricht der HERR, um ihrer Missetat willen, dazu das Land der Chaldäer und will es zur ewigen Wüste machen.13So will ich über dieses Land bringen alle meine Worte, die ich gegen sie geredet habe, alles, was in diesem Buch geschrieben steht, was Jeremia geweissagt hat über alle Völker.14Auch sie sollen großen Völkern und großen Königen dienen. So will ich ihnen vergelten nach ihrem Tun und nach den Werken ihrer Hände.
Der Becher des Zorns für alle Völker
15Denn so sprach zu mir der HERR, der Gott Israels: Nimm diesen Becher mit dem Wein meines Zorns aus meiner Hand und lass daraus trinken alle Völker, zu denen ich dich sende,16dass sie trinken, taumeln und toll werden vor dem Schwert, das ich unter sie schicken will.17Und ich nahm den Becher aus der Hand des HERRN und ließ trinken alle Völker, zu denen mich der HERR sandte,18nämlich Jerusalem samt seinen Königen und Fürsten und die Städte Judas, dass sie wüst und zerstört liegen und ein Spott und Fluch sein sollten – wie es denn heutigentags steht –,19auch den Pharao, den König von Ägypten, samt seinen Knechten, seinen Fürsten, seinem ganzen Volk20und allem fremden Volk, alle Könige im Lande Uz, alle Könige in der Philister Lande samt Aschkelon, Gaza, Ekron und denen, die übrig geblieben sind in Aschdod,21Edom, Moab und die Ammoniter,22alle Könige von Tyrus, alle Könige von Sidon, die Könige auf den Inseln jenseits des Meeres,23Dedan, Tema, Bus und alle, die sich das Haar stutzen,24alle Könige der Araber und alle Könige Arabiens, die in der Wüste wohnen,25alle Könige von Simri, alle Könige von Elam, alle Könige von Medien,26alle Könige des Nordens, die in der Nähe und die in der Ferne, einen wie den andern, alle Königreiche der Welt, die auf Erden sind. Und der König von Scheschach* soll nach ihnen trinken.27Und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Trinkt, dass ihr trunken werdet, und speit, dass ihr niederfallt und nicht aufstehen könnt vor dem Schwert, das ich unter euch schicken will.28Wenn sie aber den Becher von deiner Hand nicht nehmen und nicht trinken wollen, dann sprich zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Ihr müsst trinken!29Denn siehe, bei der Stadt, die nach meinem Namen genannt ist, fange ich an mit dem Unheil, und ihr solltet ungestraft bleiben? Ihr sollt nicht ungestraft bleiben, denn ich rufe das Schwert über alle herbei, die auf Erden wohnen, spricht der HERR Zebaoth.30Du aber sollst ihnen alle diese Worte weissagen und zu ihnen sprechen: Der HERR wird brüllen aus der Höhe und seinen Donner hören lassen aus seiner heiligen Wohnung. Er wird brüllen über seine Fluren hin; wie einer, der die Kelter tritt, wird er seinen Ruf erschallen lassen über alle Bewohner der Erde hin,31und sein Schall wird dringen bis an die Enden der Erde. Der HERR hat einen Rechtsstreit mit den Völkern und will mit allem Fleisch Gericht halten; die Schuldigen wird er dem Schwert übergeben, spricht der HERR.32So spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Siehe, Unheil geht aus von Volk zu Volk, und ein großes Wetter wird losbrechen von den Enden der Erde.33Zu der Zeit werden die vom HERRN Erschlagenen liegen von einem Ende der Erde bis ans andere Ende; sie werden nicht beklagt noch aufgehoben noch begraben werden, sondern müssen auf dem Felde liegen und zu Dung werden.34Heult, ihr Hirten, und schreit, wälzt euch in der Asche, ihr Herren der Herde; denn die Zeit ist erfüllt, dass ihr geschlachtet und zerstreut werdet und zerbrechen müsst wie ein kostbares Gefäß.35Und die Hirten werden nicht fliehen können, und die Herren der Herde werden nicht entrinnen können.36Da werden die Hirten schreien, und die Herren der Herde werden heulen, dass der HERR ihre Weide so verwüstet hat37und ihre friedlichen Auen vernichtet sind von dem grimmigen Zorn des HERRN.38Er hat sein Versteck verlassen wie ein junger Löwe, und ihr Land ist verheert von seinem gewaltigen Schwert und von seinem grimmigen Zorn.

Seventy years in Babylon
1A message from the LORD about all the people of Judah came to Jeremiah. It came in the fourth year that Jehoiakim was the king of Judah. It was the first year that Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon. Jehoiakim was the son of Josiah.2Jeremiah, the LORD’s prophet, spoke to all the people of Judah and Jerusalem. He said,3‘For 23 years the LORD’s messages have been coming to me. They began to come in the 13th year that Josiah was king of Judah. He was the son of Amon. The LORD’s messages still come to me today. I’ve spoken to you people again and again. But you haven’t listened to me.4‘The LORD has sent all his servants the prophets to you. They’ve come to you again and again. But you haven’t listened. You haven’t paid any attention to them.5They said, “Each of you must turn from your evil ways and practices. Then you can stay in the land for ever. It’s the land the LORD gave you and your people of long ago.6Don’t follow other gods. Don’t serve them or worship them. Don’t make the LORD angry with the gods your own hands have made. Then he won’t harm you.”7‘ “But you did not listen to me,” announces the LORD. “You have made me very angry with the gods your hands have made. And you have brought harm on yourselves.”8‘The LORD who rules over all says, “You have not listened to my words.9So I will send for all the nations in the north. And I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon,” announces the LORD. “I will bring all of them against this land and against you who live here. They will march out against all the nations that are around this land. I will set apart Judah and the nations around it in a special way to be destroyed. People will be shocked because of them. And they will make fun of them. Those nations will be destroyed for ever.10I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness. I will put an end to the voices of brides and grooms. The sound of grinding millstones will not be heard anymore. And lamps will not be lit anymore.11This whole country will become dry and empty. And these nations will serve the king of Babylon for 70 years.12‘ “But I will punish that king and his nation because they are guilty. I will do this when the 70 years are over,” announces the LORD. “I will make that land a desert for ever.13I have spoken against that land. And I will make all these things happen to it. Everything will happen that is written in this book. And I will make everything Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations come true.14The people of Babylon will become slaves of many other nations and great kings. I will pay them back for what they have done.” ’
The cup of God’s great anger
15The LORD is the God of Israel. He said to me, ‘Take this cup from my hand. It is filled with the wine of my great anger. Make all the nations to which I send you drink it.16When they drink it, they will not even be able to walk straight. It will drive them out of their minds. I am going to send war against them.’17So I took the cup from the LORD’s hand. I made all the nations to which he sent me drink from it.18He sent me to Judah’s kings and officials. He told me to go to Jerusalem and the towns of Judah. He wanted me to tell them they would be destroyed. Then people would be shocked because of them. They would make fun of them. They would use their name in a curse. And that’s how things still are today.19Here is a list of the other kings and nations he sent me to. Pharaoh, the king of Egypt his attendants, his officials, all his people20all the people from other lands who lived there all the kings of Uz the Philistine kings of Ashkelon, Gaza and Ekron the Philistines still living in Ashdod21Edom, Moab, Ammon22all the kings of Tyre and Sidon the kings of the islands and other lands along the Mediterranean Sea23Dedan, Teman, Buz all the other places far away in the east24all the kings of Arabia all the other kings of people who live in the desert25all the kings of Zimri, Elam and Media26all the kings in the north, near and far So he sent me to all the kingdoms on the face of the earth, one after the other. They will all drink from the cup of the LORD’s anger. After they drink, the king of Babylon will drink from it too.27The LORD says, ‘Tell them, “The LORD who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, ‘Drink from this cup. Get drunk and throw up. Fall down and do not get up again. I am going to send war against you.’ ”28But they might refuse to take the cup from your hand. They might not want to drink from it. Then tell them, “The LORD who rules over all says, ‘You must drink from it!29I am beginning to bring trouble on the city where I have put my Name. You might think you will not be punished. But you will certainly be punished. I am sending war against everyone who lives on earth,’ announces the LORD who rules over all.”30‘Jeremiah, prophesy against them. Tell them, ‘ “The LORD will roar from heaven like a lion. His voice will sound like thunder from his holy temple there. He will roar loudly against his land. He will shout like those who tread grapes in winepresses. He will shout against everyone who lives on earth.31The noise of battle will be heard from one end of the earth to the other. That’s because the LORD will bring charges against the nations. He will judge every human being. He will kill sinful people with his sword,” ’ announces the LORD.32The LORD who rules over all says, ‘Look! Horrible trouble is spreading from one nation to another. A mighty storm is rising. It is coming from a place that is very far away.’33At that time those the LORD kills will be lying around everywhere. They will be found from one end of the earth to the other. No one will mourn for them. Their dead bodies will not be gathered up or buried. Instead, they will be like human waste lying there on the ground.34Weep and cry, you shepherds. Roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock. Your time to be killed has come. You will fall like the best of the rams.35The shepherds won’t have any place to run to. The leaders of the flock won’t be able to escape.36Listen to the cries of the shepherds. Hear the weeping of the leaders of the flock. The LORD is destroying their grasslands.37Their peaceful meadows will be completely destroyed because of the LORD’s great anger.38Like a lion he will leave his den. The land of those leaders will become a desert. That’s because the sword of the LORD brings great harm. His anger will burn against them.
