1 A wise son heareth his father' instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. 2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. 3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. 4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. 5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. 6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. 7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. 8 The ransom of a man' life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. 9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. 10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. 11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. 12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. 13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. 14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. 15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. 16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly. 17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health. 18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. 19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. 21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. 22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children' children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. 23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment. 24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. 25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

1 Die Unterweisung des Vaters macht den Sohn weise; aber ein Spötter hört selbst auf Drohen nicht. 2 Die Frucht seiner Worte genießt der Fromme; aber die Verächter sind gierig nach Frevel. 3 Wer seine Zunge hütet, bewahrt sein Leben; wer aber mit seinem Maul herausfährt, über den kommt Verderben. 4 Der Faule begehrt und kriegt’s doch nicht; aber die Fleißigen kriegen genug. 5 Der Gerechte ist der Lüge feind; aber der Frevler handelt schimpflich und schändlich. 6 Die Gerechtigkeit behütet den Unschuldigen; aber die Gottlosigkeit bringt den Sünder zu Fall. 7 Mancher stellt sich reich und hat nichts, und mancher stellt sich arm und hat großes Gut.* 8 Mit Reichtum muss mancher sein Leben erkaufen; aber ein Armer bekommt keine Drohung zu hören. 9 Das Licht der Gerechten brennt fröhlich; aber die Leuchte der Frevler wird verlöschen. 10 Unter den Übermütigen ist immer Streit; aber Weisheit ist bei denen, die sich raten lassen. 11 Hastig errafftes Gut zerrinnt; wer aber ruhig sammelt, bekommt immer mehr. 12 Hoffnung, die sich verzögert, ängstet das Herz; wenn aber kommt, was man begehrt, das ist ein Baum des Lebens. 13 Wer das Wort verachtet, muss dafür büßen; wer aber das Gebot fürchtet, dem wird es gelohnt. 14 Die Lehre des Weisen ist eine Quelle des Lebens, zu meiden die Stricke des Todes. 15 Rechte Einsicht schafft Gunst; aber der Verächter Weg bringt Verderben. 16 Ein Kluger tut alles mit Vernunft; ein Tor aber stellt Narrheit zur Schau. 17 Ein gottloser Bote bringt ins Unglück; aber ein getreuer Bote bringt Hilfe. 18 Wer Zucht missachtet, hat Armut und Schande; wer sich gern zurechtweisen lässt, wird zu Ehren kommen. 19 Wenn kommt, was man begehrt, tut es dem Herzen wohl; aber das Böse meiden ist den Toren ein Gräuel. 20 Wer mit den Weisen umgeht, der wird weise; wer aber der Toren Geselle ist, der wird Unglück haben. 21 Unheil verfolgt die Sünder; aber den Gerechten wird mit Gutem vergolten. 22 Der Gute wird vererben auf Kindeskind; aber des Sünders Habe wird gespart für den Gerechten. 23 Es ist viel Speise in den Furchen der Armen; aber wo kein Recht ist, da ist Verderben. 24 Wer seine Rute schont, der hasst seinen Sohn; wer ihn aber lieb hat, der züchtigt ihn beizeiten. 25 Der Gerechte kann essen, bis er satt ist; der Bauch der Frevler aber leidet Mangel.
