1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it. 2 And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely. 3 O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. 4 Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God. 5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds. 6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased. 7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots'houses. 8 They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife. 9 Shall I not visit for these things ? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? 10 Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD'. 11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD. 12 They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine: 13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them. 14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them. 15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say. 16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men. 17 And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword. 18 Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you. 19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours. 20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying, 21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: 22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? 23 But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. 24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest. 25 Your iniquities have turned away these things , and your sins have withholden good things from you. 26 For among my people are found wicked men : they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. 27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich. 28 They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge. 29 Shall I not visit for these things ? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? 30 A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; 31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

Jerusalems Schuld

1 Geht durch die Gassen Jerusalems und schaut und merkt auf und sucht auf den Straßen der Stadt, ob ihr jemand findet, der Recht übt und auf Wahrheit hält, so will ich ihr gnädig sein. 2 Und wenn sie auch sprechen: So wahr der HERR lebt!, so schwören sie doch falsch. 3 HERR, deine Augen sehen auf Wahrhaftigkeit. Du hast sie geschlagen, aber sie fühlten’s nicht; fast hast du sie vernichtet, aber sie besserten sich nicht. Sie haben ein Angesicht, härter als ein Fels, und wollten sich nicht bekehren. 4 Ich aber dachte: Wohlan, es sind arme, unverständige Leute und wissen nicht um des HERRN Weg und um ihres Gottes Recht. 5 Ich will zu den Großen gehen und mit ihnen reden; die werden um des HERRN Weg und ihres Gottes Recht wissen. Aber sie alle haben das Joch zerbrochen und die Seile zerrissen. 6 Darum schlug sie auch der Löwe aus dem Walde, der Wolf aus der Steppe fällt über sie her, und der Panther belauert ihre Städte; alle, die von da herausgehen, werden zerfleischt. Denn ihrer Sünden sind zu viele, und sie bleiben in ihrem Ungehorsam. 7 Wie soll ich dir denn gnädig sein? Deine Kinder haben mich verlassen und schwören bei dem, der nicht Gott ist. Als ich sie satt gemacht hatte, trieben sie Ehebruch und liefen ins Hurenhaus. 8 Ein jeder wiehert nach seines Nächsten Frau wie die vollen, müßigen Hengste. 9 Und ich sollte das an ihnen nicht heimsuchen, spricht der HERR, und ich sollte mich nicht rächen an einem Volk wie diesem? 10 Stürmt die schützenden Mauern und verwüstet die Weingärten; aber verwüstet sie nicht ganz! Reißt ihre Weinreben weg; denn sie gehören nicht dem HERRN! 11 Denn treulos geworden sind sie mir, das Haus Israel und das Haus Juda, spricht der HERR. 12 Sie verleugneten den HERRN und sprachen: »Das tut er nicht; so übel wird es uns nicht gehen; Schwert und Hunger werden wir nicht sehen.« 13 Die Propheten werden zu Wind und Gottes Wort ist nicht in ihnen. So ergehe es ihnen selbst! 14 Darum spricht der HERR, der Gott Zebaoth: Weil ihr solche Reden führt, siehe, so will ich meine Worte in deinem Munde zu Feuer machen und dies Volk zu Brennholz, dass es verzehrt werde. 15 Siehe, ich will über euch vom Hause Israel ein Volk von ferne her bringen, spricht der HERR, ein Volk von unerschöpflicher Kraft, ein uraltes Volk, ein Volk, dessen Sprache du nicht verstehst, und was sie reden, kannst du nicht vernehmen. 16 Seine Köcher sind wie offene Gräber; es sind lauter Helden. 17 Sie werden deine Ernte und dein Brot verzehren, sie werden deine Söhne und Töchter fressen, sie werden deine Schafe und Rinder verschlingen, sie werden deine Weinstöcke und Feigenbäume verzehren; deine festen Städte, auf die du dich verlässt, werden sie mit dem Schwert verderben. 18 Doch will ich, spricht der HERR, auch zu jener Zeit mit euch nicht ganz ein Ende machen. 19 Und wenn sie sagen: Warum tut uns der HERR, unser Gott, dies alles?, sollst du ihnen antworten: Wie ihr mich verlasst und fremden Göttern dient in eurem eigenen Lande, so sollt ihr auch Fremden dienen in einem Lande, das nicht euer ist. 20 Verkündet im Hause Jakob und ruft aus in Juda und sprecht: 21 Hört zu, ihr tolles Volk, das keinen Verstand hat, die da Augen haben und sehen nicht, Ohren haben und hören nicht! 22 Wollt ihr mich nicht fürchten, spricht der HERR, und vor mir nicht erschrecken, der ich dem Meere den Sand zur Grenze setze, darin es allezeit bleiben muss, darüber es nicht gehen darf? Und ob es auch aufwallt, so vermag es doch nichts; und ob seine Wellen auch toben, so dürfen sie doch nicht darübergehen. 23 Aber dies Volk hat ein abtrünniges, ungehorsames Herz. Sie bleiben abtrünnig und gehen ihrer Wege 24 und sprechen niemals in ihrem Herzen: »Lasst uns doch den HERRN, unsern Gott, fürchten, der uns Frühregen und Spätregen gibt zur rechten Zeit und uns die Ernte treulich und jährlich gewährt.« 25 Eure Verschuldungen verhindern das, und eure Sünden halten das Gute von euch fern. 26 Man findet unter meinem Volk Frevler, die den Leuten nachstellen und Fallen zurichten, um sie zu fangen, wie’s die Vogelfänger tun. 27 Ihre Häuser sind voller Tücke, wie ein Vogelbauer voller Lockvögel ist. Daher sind sie groß und reich geworden, 28 fett und feist. Sie gingen mit bösen Dingen um; sie hielten kein Recht, der Waisen Sache führten sie nicht zum Erfolg und halfen den Armen nicht zum Recht. 29 Sollte ich das an ihnen nicht heimsuchen, spricht der HERR, und sollte ich mich nicht rächen an einem Volk wie diesem? 30 Es steht gräulich und grässlich im Lande. 31 Die Propheten weissagen Lüge, und die Priester lehren auf eigene Faust, und mein Volk hat’s gern so. Aber was werdet ihr tun, wenn’s damit ein Ende hat?
