1 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon? 2 Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. 3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. 4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed. 5 And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him. 6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee. 7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him. 8 Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time. 9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD' anointed, and be guiltless? 10 David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish. 11 The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD' anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go. 12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul' bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it , nor knew it , neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them. 13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them: 14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king? 15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord. 16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD' anointed. And now see where the king' spear is , and the cruse of water that was at his bolster. 17 And Saul knew David' voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king. 18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand? 19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods. 20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains. 21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly. 22 And David answered and said, Behold the king' spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it. 23 The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD' anointed. 24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation. 25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things , and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

David verschont Saul zum zweiten Mal

1 Die Sifiter aber kamen zu Saul nach Gibea und sprachen: David hält sich verborgen auf dem Hügel Hachila, der Jeschimon gegenüberliegt. 2 Da machte sich Saul auf und zog hinab zur Wüste Sif und mit ihm dreitausend ausgewählte Männer aus Israel, um David in der Wüste Sif zu suchen. 3 Und Saul lagerte sich auf dem Hügel Hachila, der Jeschimon gegenüberliegt am Wege. David aber blieb in der Wüste. Und als er merkte, dass Saul ihm nachkam in die Wüste, 4 sandte er Kundschafter aus und erfuhr, dass Saul gewiss gekommen wäre. 5 Und David machte sich auf und kam an den Ort, wo Saul sein Lager hielt, und sah die Stätte, wo Saul lag mit seinem Feldhauptmann Abner, dem Sohn Ners. Saul aber lag in der Wagenburg und das Kriegsvolk um ihn her. 6 Da hob David an und sprach zu Ahimelech, dem Hetiter, und zu Abischai, dem Sohn der Zeruja, dem Bruder Joabs: Wer will mit mir hinab zu Saul ins Lager? Abischai sprach: Ich will mit dir hinab. 7 So kam David mit Abischai des Nachts zum Lager. Und siehe, Saul lag und schlief in der Wagenburg, und sein Spieß steckte in der Erde zu seinen Häupten. Abner aber und das Volk lagen um ihn her. 8 Da sprach Abischai zu David: Gott hat deinen Feind heute in deine Hand gegeben; so will ich ihn nun mit dem Spieß stechen, in die Erde mit einem Mal, dass es keines zweiten mehr bedarf. 9 David aber sprach zu Abischai: Bring ihn nicht um; denn wer könnte die Hand an den Gesalbten des HERRN legen und ungestraft bleiben? 10 Weiter sprach David: So wahr der HERR lebt: Der HERR wird ihn schlagen, oder es kommt sein Tag, dass er sterbe oder in den Krieg ziehe und umkomme. 11 Von mir lasse der HERR fern sein, dass ich meine Hand sollte an den Gesalbten des HERRN legen. Nimm nun den Spieß zu seinen Häupten und den Wasserkrug und lass uns gehen. 12 So nahm David den Spieß und den Wasserkrug zu Häupten Sauls, und sie gingen weg, und es war niemand, der es sah oder merkte oder der erwachte, sondern sie schliefen alle; denn es war ein tiefer Schlaf vom HERRN auf sie gefallen. 13 Als nun David auf die andere Seite hinübergekommen war, stellte er sich auf den Gipfel des Berges von ferne, sodass ein weiter Raum zwischen ihnen war. 14 Und David schrie zum Kriegsvolk und zu Abner, dem Sohn Ners, und sprach: Antwortest du nicht, Abner? Und Abner antwortete: Wer bist du, dass du so schreist zum König hin? 15 Und David sprach zu Abner: Bist du nicht ein Mann? Und wer ist dir gleich in Israel? Warum hast du denn deinen Herrn, den König, nicht bewacht? Denn es ist einer vom Volk hineingekommen, deinen Herrn, den König, umzubringen. 16 Das war nicht recht, was du getan hast. So wahr der HERR lebt: Ihr seid Kinder des Todes, weil ihr euren Herrn, den Gesalbten des HERRN, nicht bewacht habt! Nun sieh doch nach, wo der Spieß des Königs ist und der Wasserkrug, der zu seinen Häupten war. 17 Da erkannte Saul die Stimme Davids und sprach: Ist das nicht deine Stimme, mein Sohn David? David sprach: Es ist meine Stimme, mein Herr und König. 18 Und sprach weiter: Warum verfolgt denn mein Herr seinen Knecht? Was habe ich getan? Und was ist Böses in meiner Hand? 19 So höre doch nun mein Herr, der König, die Worte seines Knechts: Reizt dich der HERR gegen mich, so lasse man ihn ein Speisopfer riechen; tun’s aber Menschen, so seien sie verflucht vor dem HERRN, weil sie mich heute verstoßen und nicht an dem Erbteil des HERRN teilhaben lassen und sprechen: Geh hin, diene andern Göttern! 20 So fließe nun mein Blut nicht auf die Erde fern vom Angesicht des HERRN! Denn der König von Israel ist ja ausgezogen, zu suchen einen einzelnen Floh, wie man ein Rebhuhn jagt auf den Bergen. 21 Und Saul sprach: Ich habe gesündigt; komm wieder, mein Sohn David, ich will dir hinfort nichts Böses mehr tun, weil mein Leben heute teuer gewesen ist in deinen Augen. Siehe, ich habe töricht und sehr falsch gehandelt. 22 David antwortete und sprach: Siehe, hier ist der Spieß des Königs; es komme einer von den Männern herüber und hole ihn. 23 Der HERR aber wird einem jeden seine Gerechtigkeit und Treue vergelten. Denn der HERR hat dich heute in meine Hand gegeben, ich aber wollte meine Hand nicht an den Gesalbten des HERRN legen. 24 Und siehe, wie heute dein Leben in meinen Augen wert geachtet war, so werde mein Leben wert geachtet in den Augen des HERRN, und er errette mich aus aller Not! 25 Saul sprach zu David: Gesegnet seist du, mein Sohn David; du wirst’s ausführen und vollenden. Und David zog seine Straße; Saul aber kehrte zurück an seinen Ort.
