1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. 2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD' hand double for all her sins. 3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it . 6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: 7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. 8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. 9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! 10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand , and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. 11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. 12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? 13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? 14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding? 15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. 16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering. 17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity. 18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? 19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains. 20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved. 21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: 23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. 24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. 25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things , that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth. 27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? 28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Trost für Gottes Volk

1 So spricht euer Gott: »Tröstet, ja, tröstet mein Volk! 2 Ermutigt die Einwohner Jerusalems! Ruft ihnen zu: Nun habt ihr genug gelitten! Die schreckliche Zeit ist vorbei! Der HERR hat euch voll und ganz für eure Sünden bestraft. Eure Schuld ist beglichen.« 3 Hört! Jemand ruft: »Bahnt dem HERRN einen Weg durch die Wüste! Baut eine Straße durch die Steppe für unseren Gott! 4 Jedes Tal soll aufgefüllt, jeder Berg und Hügel abgetragen werden. Alles Unebene soll eben werden und alles Hügelige flach. 5 Denn der HERR wird kommen in seiner ganzen Herrlichkeit. Alle Welt wird ihn sehen, so hat er selbst es angekündigt.« 6 Hört! Jemand sagt zu mir: »Sprich zu den Menschen!« »Was soll ich ihnen denn sagen?«, frage ich. »Sag: Die Menschen sind wie das Gras, und ihre Schönheit gleicht den Blumen: 7 Das Gras verdorrt, die Blumen verwelken, wenn der HERR seinen Atem darüber wehen lässt. Ja, nichts als Gras ist das Volk. 8 Das Gras verdorrt, die Blumen verwelken, aber das Wort unseres Gottes bleibt gültig für immer und ewig.« 9 Steig auf einen hohen Berg, Jerusalem! Du hast eine gute Nachricht zu verkünden, Berg Zion. Ruf sie mit lauter Stimme in die Welt hinaus! Ruf laut und scheue dich nicht! Sag den Städten im Land Juda: »Seht, da kommt euer Gott!« 10 Ja, der HERR kommt als ein mächtiger Gott. Er herrscht mit großer Kraft. Den Lohn für seine Mühe bringt er mit: sein Volk, das er sich erworben hat. Es geht vor ihm her. 11 Er sorgt für sein Volk wie ein guter Hirte. Die Lämmer nimmt er auf den Arm und hüllt sie schützend in seinen Umhang. Die Mutterschafe führt er behutsam ihren Weg.

Die unvergleichliche Größe Gottes

12 Kann jemand die Wassermassen der Meere mit der hohlen Hand messen oder die Weite des Himmels mit der Handspanne bestimmen? Und kann jemand die Erdmassen in Eimer abfüllen, die Berge wiegen und alle Hügel auf die Waagschale legen? 13 Wer kann den Geist des HERRN fassen? Wer war sein Lehrer, wer hat ihn beraten? 14 Braucht Gott jemanden, bei dem er sich Rat holt, einen, der ihn unterrichtet und ihm zeigt, was richtig ist? Musste ihm je einer neue Erkenntnisse vermitteln und ihm die Augen öffnen für das, was er zu tun hat? 15 Nein, niemals! Denn in seinen Augen sind selbst ganze Völker nur wie Tropfen im Eimer, wie Stäubchen auf der Waage. Die Inseln im Meer hebt er hoch, als wären sie Sandkörner. 16 Würde man alle Wälder auf dem Libanon zu Brennholz machen und alles Wild darin schlachten, es wäre immer noch zu wenig als Opfer für den Herrn! 17 Gemessen an ihm sind alle Völker wie ein Nichts; ihre Macht hat für ihn nicht das geringste Gewicht. 18 Mit wem wollt ihr Gott vergleichen? Gibt es für ihn überhaupt ein passendes Bild? 19 Da gießt der Künstler eine Figur aus Bronze, und der Goldschmied überzieht sie mit Gold und schmückt sie mit silbernen Kettchen. 20 Wem eine solche Götterstatue zu teuer ist, der nimmt Holz, das nicht fault. Er lässt sich von einem geschickten Künstler eine Figur daraus schnitzen, die fest steht und nicht wackelt. 21 Ihr aber – wisst ihr es nicht besser? Oder wollt ihr es nicht hören? Hat man es euch nicht von Anfang an erzählt? Ist euch wirklich nicht bekannt, wer die Erde gemacht hat? 22 Es ist der Herr! Hoch thront er über der Welt; ihre Bewohner sind für ihn klein wie Heuschrecken. Er spannt den Himmel aus wie einen Schleier, er schlägt ihn auf wie ein Zelt, unter dem die Menschen wohnen können. 23 Er stürzt die Mächtigen und nimmt den obersten Richtern die Gewalt. 24 Sie gleichen jungen Pflanzen: Kaum sind sie gesetzt, kaum haben sie Wurzeln geschlagen, da bläst er sie an, und sie verdorren. Wie Spreu werden sie vom Sturm verweht. 25 »Mit wem also wollt ihr mich vergleichen?«, fragt der heilige Gott. »Wer hält einem Vergleich mit mir stand?« 26 Blickt nach oben! Schaut den Himmel an: Wer hat die unzähligen Sterne geschaffen? Er ist es! Er ruft sie, und sie kommen hervor; jeden nennt er mit seinem Namen. Kein einziger fehlt, wenn der starke und mächtige Gott sie antreten lässt. 27 Ihr Nachkommen von Jakob, ihr Israeliten, warum behauptet ihr: »Der HERR weiß nicht, wie es uns geht! Es macht unserem Gott nichts aus, wenn wir Unrecht leiden müssen«? 28 Begreift ihr denn nicht? Oder habt ihr es nie gehört? Der HERR ist der ewige Gott. Er ist der Schöpfer der Erde – auch die entferntesten Länder hat er gemacht. Er wird weder müde noch kraftlos. Seine Weisheit ist unendlich tief. 29 Den Erschöpften gibt er neue Kraft, und die Schwachen macht er stark. 30 Selbst junge Menschen ermüden und werden kraftlos, starke Männer stolpern und brechen zusammen. 31 Aber alle, die ihre Hoffnung auf den HERRN setzen, bekommen neue Kraft. Sie sind wie Adler, denen mächtige Schwingen wachsen. Sie gehen und werden nicht müde, sie laufen und sind nicht erschöpft.
