1Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!2Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.3The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:4And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.5In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,6And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.7But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.8For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean .9Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.10For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:11For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.12To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.13But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.14Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.15Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:16Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone , a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.17Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.18And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.19From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.20For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it : and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it .21For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.22Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.23Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.24Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and break the clods of his ground?25When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?26For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.27For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod.28Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.29This also cometh forth from the LORD of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.

Die stolze Stadt Samaria – eine welkende Blume
1Wehe euch, ihr Leute von Ephraim! Trinker seid ihr, ganz und gar dem Wein ergeben. Eurer stolzen Hauptstadt Samaria wird es schlecht ergehen! Noch liegt sie wie eine prächtige Krone auf dem Hügel, hoch über dem fruchtbaren Tal. Sie schmückt ihn wie ein bunter Blumenkranz, doch die Blüten welken schon.2Denn der Herr hält ein starkes und mächtiges Heer bereit. Wie ein Orkan wird es über euch hinwegfegen, wie ein Hagelsturm mit sintflutartigen Regenfällen, deren Wassermassen alles fortspülen. Mit Wucht wird es euch zu Boden werfen.3Dann wird sie zertrampelt, die prunkvolle Krone, der Stolz aller Weinseligen von Ephraim.4Heute schmückt sie noch wie ein prächtiger Blumenkranz den Hügel, hoch über dem fruchtbaren Tal. Doch die Blüten welken schon, und bald geht es ihr wie einer Feige, die schon vor der Ernte reif geworden ist: Wer sie am Baum erblickt, pflückt sie schnell und schlingt sie hinunter.5Es kommt der Tag, da wird der HERR selbst, der allmächtige Gott, die glanzvolle Krone für die Überlebenden seines Volkes sein. Dann ist er ihr prächtiger Blumenkranz.6Den Richtern gibt er Sinn für Gerechtigkeit, wenn sie ihre Urteile fällen, und die Soldaten rüstet er mit Mut und Kraft aus, damit sie die Feinde aus der Stadt vertreiben.
Die betrunkenen Propheten von Jerusalem
7Sogar die Priester und Propheten torkeln. Von Wein und anderen berauschenden Getränken benebelt, können sie sich kaum noch auf den Beinen halten. Taumelnd und torkelnd empfangen die Propheten ihre Visionen, und die Priester schwanken hin und her, wenn sie Recht sprechen.8Die Tische, an denen sie sitzen, sind voll von Erbrochenem, alles ist besudelt.9»Für wen hält dieser Jesaja uns eigentlich, dass er uns belehren will?«, lallen sie. »Uns braucht niemand mehr zu erzählen, was Gott gesagt hat. Sind wir denn kleine Kinder, die eben erst von der Mutterbrust entwöhnt wurden?10Was soll dieses Blabla: ›Tut dies, tut das; dies ist verboten, das ist verboten; macht hier etwas, macht dort etwas‹?«11Darum wird Gott Ausländer mit einer fremden Sprache zu diesem Volk schicken und nur noch in unverständlichen Lauten zu ihm reden.12Er hatte ihnen zwar gesagt: »Dieses Land soll für euch ein Ort der Ruhe werden. Gönnt den Erschöpften eine Pause! Hier könnt ihr in Frieden wohnen!« Doch sie wollten nicht auf ihn hören.13Darum wird der HERR von nun an nur noch das zu ihnen sagen, was sie als Blabla verspotteten: »Tut dies, tut das; dies ist verboten, das ist verboten; macht hier etwas, macht dort etwas!« Sie werden beim Laufen nach hinten stürzen und sich das Genick brechen. Sie werden den Feinden ins Netz gehen, und man wird sie gefangen fortschaffen!
Gottes unmissverständliche Botschaft
14So hört nun, was der HERR euch sagt, ihr Lästermäuler, ihr Herrscher über das Volk hier in Jerusalem!15Ihr fühlt euch sicher und prahlt: »Wir haben uns mit dem Tod verbündet und mit der Totenwelt ein Abkommen geschlossen! Wenn das Unheil über unser Land hereinbricht, kann uns nichts geschehen!« Ihr verlasst euch auf eure verlogenen Intrigen und meint, durch Betrug hättet ihr euch rundum abgesichert!16Darum spricht Gott, der HERR: »Seht, ich lege in Zion den Grundstein für ein gutes Fundament. Es ist ein kostbarer Eckstein, der felsenfest steht. Wer auf ihn baut und ihm vertraut, braucht nicht zu fliehen.17Das Recht ist meine Richtschnur und die Gerechtigkeit mein Lot. Doch eure Lügengebäude werden vom Hagel zerschlagen; ein Sturzbach reißt eure Sicherheiten fort.18Dann nützt euch der Pakt mit dem Tod und mit der Totenwelt nichts mehr. Das Unheil wird euch treffen, wie eine Flutwelle bricht es über euch herein und macht alles dem Erdboden gleich.19Tag und Nacht werdet ihr überflutet, die Wellen erfassen euch und reißen euch mit sich fort. Wenn ihr diese Botschaft begreift, jagt sie euch nichts als Angst und Schrecken ein.20Dann trifft das Sprichwort auf euch zu: ›Das Bett ist zu kurz, um sich auszustrecken, die Decke ist zu schmal, um sich zuzudecken.‹«21Ja, der HERR wird in den Kampf ziehen wie einst gegen die Philister am Berg Perazim*, er wird wüten wie damals gegen die Amoriter im Tal von Gibeon*. Alles, was er sich gegen euch vorgenommen hat, wird er tun – so seltsam und befremdend es auch ist.22Lacht bloß nicht über meine Warnungen, sonst werden eure Fesseln noch straffer angezogen! Denn ich weiß vom HERRN, dem allmächtigen Gott, dass er fest entschlossen ist, das ganze Land zu verwüsten.
Das Gleichnis vom weisen Bauern
23Passt auf und hört gut zu, was ich euch sage:24Pflügt ein Bauer vor der Aussaat etwa mehrmals sein Feld? Geht er jeden Tag wieder mit der Egge darüber?25Nein! Sobald er den Acker einmal vorbereitet hat, sät er alles Mögliche an: Dill und Kümmel, dann Weizen, Hirse und Gerste, jedes an seinem bestimmten Platz, und schließlich am Rand des Feldes noch Dinkel.26Er weiß genau, was zu tun ist, denn sein Gott hat es ihn gelehrt.27Dill und Kümmel wird er nicht wie Getreide mit einer schweren Walze ausdreschen, sondern mit einem Stock klopft er die Samen sorgfältig aus.28Und das Getreide – wird es etwa schonungslos zermalmt? Nein, natürlich nicht! Der Bauer drischt es nicht länger als nötig. Er lässt zwar seine Zugtiere die schwere Dreschwalze darüberziehen, doch er achtet darauf, dass die Körner nicht zerquetscht werden.29Auch das hat er von Gott gelernt, vom allmächtigen HERRN. Denn der ist ein weiser und wunderbarer Ratgeber.
