1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. 11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. 12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? 13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. 14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; 15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. 16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. 17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. 18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. 19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. 22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. 24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. 25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

En förlamad man blir botad

1 En eftermiddag gick Petrus och Johannes till templet för att vara med vid den dagliga bönen klockan tre. 2 Då fick de se hur en man, som hade varit förlamad från födseln, bars dit. Han brukade varje dag placeras vid den tempelport som kallades Sköna porten, för att han skulle kunna tigga av dem som gick in i templet. 3 Och när Petrus och Johannes nu var på väg in, bad han dem om pengar. 4 Petrus och Johannes stannade genast och tittade på honom, och Petrus sa: ”Se på oss!” 5 Då tittade mannen upp på dem, eftersom han trodde att han skulle få något av dem. 6 Men Petrus sa: ”Vi har inga pengar, men jag har något annat att ge dig! Genom kraften hos Jesus Kristus från Nasaret, befaller jag dig att resa dig upp och gå!” 7 Sedan tog Petrus den förlamade mannen i höger hand och reste honom upp. Och när han gjorde det blev mannen frisk i sina fötter och vrister, 8 och han studsade upp och började gå fram och tillbaka! Sedan följde han med dem in i templet, och han gick och hoppade om vartannat och hyllade Gud. 9 Alla människorna i templet såg honom gå omkring och hylla Gud, 10 och när de upptäckte att det var den förlamade tiggaren som brukade sitta vid Sköna porten, blev de mycket förvånade.

Petrus talar till folket i templet

11 Tiggaren höll sig hela tiden tätt intill Petrus och Johannes, och alla i templet skyndade sig nu till Salomos pelarhall, där man trängdes för att få se mannen. 12 Petrus insåg genast sin chans och började tala till folkskaran. Han sa: ”Israeliter*, varför är ni så förvånade över det som har hänt? Varför stirrar ni på oss? Tror ni att vi genom vår egen kraft och godhet har fått den här mannen att börja gå? 13 Nej, det är Abrahams, Isaks och Jakobs* Gud, våra förfäders Gud,* som har gjort detta för att upphöja och ära sin tjänare Jesus, honom som ni utlämnade till landshövdingen Pilatus och svek, trots att Pilatus ville ge honom fri. 14 Ni svek honom som var helig och utan skuld, och krävde istället att en mördare skulle friges. 15 Ni dödade honom som ger människorna liv, men Gud har uppväckt honom från de döda. Det har vi själva sett och kan intyga. 16 Och genom tron på kraften hos Jesus har den här mannen nu blivit botad, ni vet ju alla att han förut var helt förlamad. Tron på Jesus har gjort honom fullständigt frisk, som ni alla kan se. 17 Kära vänner! Jag vet mycket väl att både ni och era ledare utlämnade Jesus därför att ni inte förstod bättre. 18 Men genom detta har Gud låtit det som han förutsagt genom profeterna* bli verklighet: att Messias, den kung han lovade oss, måste lida. 19 Ångra er därför och vänd om till Gud, så att ni får förlåtelse för era synder. 20 Då ska en underbar tid av vila komma, och Gud ska sända Jesus, er kung*, tillbaka till er. 21 Men han måste stanna kvar i himlen, tills allt det som Gud sedan tidens början har talat om genom sina egna profeter, har blivit verklighet. 22 Mose sa till exempel: ’Herren, er Gud, ska låta en profet lik mig uppstå åt er ur ert eget folk. Lyssna noga till honom.* 23 Var och en som inte lyssnar till den profeten ska utrotas ur folket.*’ 24 Efter det har alla profeter, från Samuel och framåt, framfört Guds budskap om det som händer idag. 25 Ni är dessa profeters barn och Guds löften till våra förfäder gäller också er. Gud ingick ju ett förbund med er förfader Abraham och sa: ’Genom dina efterkommande ska alla världens folk få del av mitt goda.*’ 26 Gud lät alltså sin Son komma till jorden, och han sände honom först till er israeliter, eftersom Gud ville ge er allt gott och få er att överge er ondska.”
