1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;

3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

1 Från Paulus, Silvanus* och Timotheos. Till församlingen i Thessalonike som lever i gemenskap med Gud Fadern och Herren Jesus Kristus*. Vi ber att Gud ska visa er godhet och fylla er med frid.

Paulus tackar Gud för församlingens tro

2 Vi tackar alltid Gud för er alla och ber ständigt för er,

3 för vi tänker på allt ni gör. Er tro har omsatts i praktisk handling, er kärlek har visat sig i hårt arbete och ni håller fast vid hoppet om att vår Herre Jesus Kristus ska rädda er för evigt. Därför måste vi tacka vår Gud och Far för er.

4 Kära syskon*, Gud älskar er, och vi vet att ni har tackat ja till hans inbjudan att få tillhöra honom.

5 När vi kom till er med det glada budskapet om Jesus tog ni ju emot det. Vi kom till er inte bara med ord, utan Guds heliga Ande gav oss kraft att göra under, så att ni såg att vi verkligen trodde på budskapet själva. Ni vet ju vad vi gjorde bland er för att hjälpa er. Och allt detta övertygade er, så att ni tog emot budskapet om Jesus med den glädje som Guds heliga Ande ger, trots de förföljelser ni blev utsatta för. Ni följde vårt exempel, och därmed också Herren Jesus exempel, genom att ni var villiga att lida.

7 På det sättet blev ni själva ett föredöme för alla de troende i Makedonien och Achaia*,

8 för ni har fört budskapet om Herren Jesus vidare till andra, inte bara i Makedonien och Achaia, utan långt utanför dessa provinsers gränser. Vart vi än kommer, har människor hört talas om er tro på Gud. Vi behöver inte säga någonting,

9 för alla berättar själva om hur ni tog emot oss och vårt budskap, och hur ni vände er bort från era avgudar för att tjäna den enda Guden som lever och är verklig.

10 Och de berättar att ni väntar på att Guds Son ska komma tillbaka från Gud i himlen ‑ Jesus, som Gud uppväckte från de döda, och som är den som räddar oss när Gud straffar resten av världen.
