Psalm 97 | Het Boek

1 De HERE is de grote Koning. Laat de aarde daarom juichen en de landen aan de kust zich erover verblijden.

2 Om Hem heen zijn wolken en duisternis. Recht en rechtvaardigheid vormen de basis waarop Hij regeert.

3 Zijn macht en majesteit vernietigen zijn vijanden.

4 De hele wereld wordt door Hem verlicht als door bliksemschichten, de aarde beeft voor Hem.

5 Als de HERE verschijnt, smelten de bergen als was voor Hem. Hij is Heer over de hele aarde.

6 Zijn rechtvaardigheid klinkt door alle hemelen en alle volken zullen Hem zien.

7 Iedere afgodendienaar zal beschaamd staan, zij zullen zich op hun zogenaamde goden niet kunnen beroemen. Zelfs die moeten eenmaal voor Hem buigen.

8 Het volk van Israël is blij over Hem en ziet zijn grootheid. De dochters van Juda juichen U toe om de wijze waarop U rechtspreekt, HERE.

9 U, HERE, bent immers God, de Allerhoogste. Boven U is er niemand op aarde. U troont hoog boven alle goden.

10 Als u van de HERE houdt, haat dan elke vorm van kwaad. God beschermt zijn kinderen en behoedt hen voor elke goddeloze invloed.

11 Gods volgelingen mogen in het licht leven en Hij geeft vreugde in het hart van allen die Hem oprecht volgen.

12 Als u bij God hoort, verheug u dan in Hem. Wees blij en prijs zijn grote en heilige naam.

The Lord Reigns

1 The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!

2 Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

3 Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around.

4 His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles.

5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.

6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory.

7 All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship him, all you gods!

8 Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments, O Lord.

9 For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.

10 O you who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

11 Light is sown* for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

12 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!
